Galaxy-Android is an experimental, unofficial Android port of Super Mario Galaxy. It runs as a native-style app rather than a Wii emulator, but you must provide your own legally obtained game image, and compatibility is still uneven.
What Galaxy-Android actually is
Developer Mohammed Huzaifa released Galaxy-Android on October 15, 2026. The project builds on the recently completed decompilation of the Wii game, and its developer describes the work as “AI-assisted.” Because the Android application runs the port itself, the headline “no emulator needed” is accurate in the narrow technical sense: you are not configuring a conventional Wii-emulation layer.
It is not an official Nintendo release. The download does not include proprietary game assets or a copyrighted game image, so the app still requires the user’s own Super Mario Galaxy ROM. Use only game data you are legally entitled to possess; do not download a ROM from an unlicensed source.
What you need before installing
- An Android phone, tablet or compatible handheld. The project does not publish a universal Android-version requirement in the release information available so far.
- Your own Super Mario Galaxy disc image in a format accepted by the app’s file picker.
- Enough free storage for the installed game. During setup, skipping cutscenes can save approximately 2GB, according to the release report.
- A willingness to troubleshoot an early release. Community notes specifically warn about bugs and device-compatibility problems.
- Optional: an Android-compatible Bluetooth or USB gamepad. Touch controls are built in.
How to install and launch it
- Open Galaxy-Android and choose Choose disc file.
- Use Android’s file picker to select your legally owned Super Mario Galaxy ROM.
- If storage is tight, select the installation option that skips cutscenes. The reported saving is about 2GB, although the exact final footprint depends on the build and files you provide.
- Tap Install & launch game and wait for the port to unpack and install the selected data.
- After installation, use Launch installed game for subsequent starts instead of selecting the disc file again.
If the picker cannot see your file, check Android’s storage permission for the app and confirm that you selected the complete disc image rather than an unrelated archive or partial file. The release notes do not specify a single mandatory filename or extension, so a file that is valid for one build may not be accepted by another.

Performance: promising examples, no compatibility guarantee
Android Authority’s October 15, 2026 report describes a default 60fps cap and 1080p output. Those are application settings, not a promise that every phone will sustain them. The same report gives these device examples:

The project was less than 24 hours old when that report was published, and an update had already addressed some problems reported on Reddit. Expect rapid fixes as well as regressions. A phone with a newer chipset may still display missing models or other graphics errors if its driver path is not compatible.

Controls and accessories
Galaxy-Android lists touch controls with direct Star Pointer tracking, Bluetooth gamepad support and USB gamepad support. Touch input is sufficient for testing, but a physical controller is the more practical choice for long sessions because Galaxy’s movement and pointer actions are easier to separate on hardware buttons and an analog stick.

An Android gaming handheld is an optional alternative. The reported result on the RG 55G1 shows that at least one handheld configuration can run the port, but it does not establish broad handheld support.
Which setup is sensible for you?

Known limitations and troubleshooting expectations
Missing Mario or other characters
If environments load but Mario or non-player characters do not appear, the symptom matches the rendering problem reported on two devices. Reinstalling may not fix a driver-level issue. Check for a newer Galaxy-Android build, record your Android version and chipset, and report the fault through the project’s community channel.

Installation or launch failure
Recheck that the selected disc file is your complete, legally obtained game image, that Android has granted the app file access, and that sufficient free space remains for installation. If you skipped cutscenes, try a clean reinstall with the full data only if you have enough storage; changing that option changes the installed files, not the legality of the source.
Inconsistent frame rate
The 60fps cap is the reported default ceiling, not a measured floor. Heat, background applications, graphics drivers and power-saving modes can all affect sustained performance. Close demanding background apps, keep the device cool and compare behavior after an update before concluding that the hardware is unsupported.

Bottom line for Android players
Galaxy-Android makes Super Mario Galaxy playable on some Android hardware without a conventional Wii emulator, including the source-reported Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Dimensity 920 examples. It remains an unofficial, very early port: bring your own lawful game data, expect touch or gamepad setup choices, and treat 1080p and 60fps as reported targets rather than guaranteed results.
