Yoti is a digital identity company founded in 2014. Its free Digital ID app lets people store verified identity details and share selected attributes, while its commercial business sells identity verification, age-assurance, electronic-signature and related artificial-intelligence services. Yoti’s current official pages headline more than 23 million global Digital ID wallet downloads, but downloads are cumulative and do not equal active users. Company-reported revenue reached £29.0 million in 2025, not the £32 million-plus figure stated in the original headline.
What Yoti is
Yoti combines a consumer identity wallet with business and government services. An individual can create a Digital ID, keep verified attributes in the app and disclose only the information a particular service requests. An organisation can use Yoti’s systems to check a customer’s identity, establish whether someone meets an age threshold, or obtain an electronic signature.
The app is free for consumers. Yoti’s commercial customers pay for services such as identity verification, age assurance, eSignatures and artificial-intelligence tools. The company says most people download the app because a business has offered Yoti as a way to prove identity or age, or because another person has requested identity or age sharing.
How the Digital ID app works
- Create an account and verify information. The user follows the app’s identity-check process so that selected attributes can be marked as verified.
- Store the verified attributes. The Digital ID acts as a reusable wallet rather than requiring the same checks for every participating service.
- Respond to a request. A business or another individual can request specific identity or age information.
- Share only what is needed. The user approves the requested attributes in the app, subject to the receiving service supporting Yoti.
This workflow is useful only where the organisation has integrated Yoti. Possessing the app does not make it a universally accepted identity document, and universal acceptance in the UK or elsewhere is not established.

How many people use Yoti?
Yoti reports several different adoption measures, and they should not be treated as interchangeable. Its January 2026 CEO update reported 21.5 million cumulative global downloads and 7.3 million cumulative UK downloads. The same update reported more than 2.28 million cumulative downloads in France and 0.78 million in the United States. Yoti’s current homepage and press page, accessed on 15 October 2026, headline more than 23 million global Digital ID wallet downloads.
| Measure | Reported figure | Timing and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Global Digital ID downloads | More than 23 million | Current figure promoted on Yoti’s official homepage and press page, accessed 15 October 2026 |
| Global cumulative downloads | 21.5 million | Yoti CEO update published January 2026 |
| UK cumulative downloads | 7.3 million | Yoti CEO update published January 2026 |
| France cumulative downloads | More than 2.28 million | Yoti CEO update published January 2026 |
| US cumulative downloads | 0.78 million | Yoti CEO update published January 2026 |
The UK is the largest country market by cumulative downloads in that dated breakdown. No cited source establishes that the UK is Yoti’s largest market by revenue, transaction volume or active users. A download count also does not show how many people use the app regularly, have completed verification or currently share credentials.

Yoti’s revenue and the disputed headline figures
The £6.2 million in 2022 and £32 million-plus in 2025 figures in the supplied headline are not corroborated by Yoti’s official company updates. Yoti CEO Robin Tombs reported revenue of £29.0 million in 2025, up from £17.9 million in 2024 and £11.5 million in 2023. Those are company-reported annual figures, not an independent audit presented here.

| Year or period | Revenue figure | How Yoti described it |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | £11.5 million | Company-reported annual revenue |
| 2024 | £17.9 million | Company-reported annual revenue |
| 2025 | £29.0 million | Company-reported annual revenue; the CEO said this was 62% higher than 2024 |
| March 2025 update | £26 million annualised revenue | Company-reported annualised run rate, with a 78% year-on-year March increase |
The £26 million figure is an annualised run rate from an April 2025 update, whereas £29.0 million is the reported revenue for the full 2025 year. They measure different things and should not be combined as though they were identical accounting figures.

What Yoti sells to organisations
Identity verification
Businesses can use Yoti checks to connect with customers whose identity details have been verified. The exact documents, checks and workflow depend on the customer’s integration and jurisdiction.
Age assurance
Yoti offers facial age estimation alongside alternative age-checking methods. The company says it has completed more than 1 billion age checks for approximately half a billion individuals over seven years. That is a company claim; no independent accuracy study or breakdown by country, age band or method is provided.

Electronic signatures
Yoti markets eSignatures as legally accepted electronic signatures and advertises pricing from £0.40 per document on its official site. Prices can change, and legal effect depends on the transaction, jurisdiction and signature type, so organisations should verify current pricing and obtain appropriate legal advice for regulated documents.

Is Yoti safe?
Yoti presents its product as a way to share verified attributes instead of repeatedly sending full identity documents. That design can reduce unnecessary disclosure when a participating service requests only an age threshold or a specific attribute. However, no independent safety audit, universal security guarantee or proof that every deployment has identical controls is provided.
Safety therefore depends on the app, the organisation receiving the information, the verification method and the user’s device and account security. Check which attributes a service requests, why it needs them and how long it retains them. Treat unexpected identity requests as potential fraud, keep the app and operating system updated, and use the provider’s official support route if an account or verification attempt looks suspicious.
Is Yoti accepted in the UK?
Yoti is available in the UK and has its largest country-level cumulative download total in the January 2026 figures. Acceptance is not automatic: a shop, employer, platform or public service must support Yoti’s verification or sharing workflow. Universal acceptance by every UK organisation is not established, and no complete list of government services where it can be used is provided. Before relying on Yoti for a deadline-sensitive transaction, confirm acceptance with the specific organisation and keep an alternative identity document available.

Government analysis shows that Yoti operates within a substantial wider market. The UK government’s 2025 analysis estimated £2.113 billion in digital-identity revenue across 266 firms in 2023/2024. Its 2026 update estimated £2.027 billion across 275 firms in 2024/2025, plus £1.037 billion in gross value added and 9,624 full-time-equivalent roles. These are sector-wide estimates, not Yoti revenue, and they cannot be used to infer Yoti’s market share.
What to check when assessing Yoti or another provider
- Which identity documents and attributes are supported in your country?
- Does the service use document checks, biometrics, liveness detection, age estimation or alternative methods?
- What data is collected, minimised, retained and shared?
- Which regulatory certifications or UK Digital Verification Service status apply to the specific product?
- Where is the service accepted, and which integrations are available?
- Is pricing per check, per document, subscription-based or volume-based?
- Is the workflow designed for consumers, businesses, government services or a combination?
These questions matter more than a download headline alone. Yoti’s figures show substantial reach and growing company-reported revenue, while acceptance, security and suitability still need to be checked for the particular use case.
