YETI’s LoadOut GoBox line is best understood as a family of rigid outdoor gear cases, not luggage and not coolers. The boxes are built to keep equipment organized and shielded from weather, with sizes ranging from a compact essentials case to a large container intended for base-camp and extended-trip loads. YETI says the cases meet IP65 and IP67 protection ratings, but those claims are manufacturer descriptions rather than independent comparative test results.
What the GoBox actually is
The “suitcases built for the apocalypse” description works as a visual shorthand: GoBoxes have hard shells, latches, handles, attachment points and a deliberately overbuilt appearance. In use, however, they are stackable gear-storage cases. YETI’s suggested contents include cameras, optics, delicate electronics, first-aid supplies, range equipment, camping gear and fishing tackle. The GoBox 1 is aimed at small essentials such as a phone, keys, wallet and charger; the larger models scale toward trip and base-camp storage.
They are not a replacement for a cooler. YETI explicitly says not to fill a GoBox with ice, and the GoBox 60 description says it is not designed for food and drink. Use a cooler for temperature-controlled contents and a GoBox for equipment that needs organization and protection.

Choose by the gear you need to carry, not by exterior appearance alone. A small case is easier to transport and organize; a large one is more useful when several people share equipment but becomes heavier and takes more vehicle space once loaded. Check the current model page for dimensions, weight, included organizers and accessory compatibility before ordering, because those details vary by size.
Weather protection: what IP65 and IP67 mean here
YETI states that GoBoxes meet both IP65 and IP67 ratings. In YETI’s explanation, IP65 represents protection against a water blast, while IP67 means the contents should remain dry after submersion in one metre of water for 30 minutes. Those are YETI’s product and rating descriptions; the reviewed material does not establish independent laboratory verification or a comparative waterproofing test against other cases.

The protection is most useful when a case is closed correctly and its seals, latches and ports are maintained. A rating does not make an open box weatherproof, and it does not protect gear from impacts, heat, condensation or poor packing. For electronics and optics, put especially sensitive items in their own protective pouches and use desiccant where appropriate.
Organization and transport features
Removable trays and dividers
Model-dependent trays and dividers let you separate small items from bulkier equipment. A removable tray can keep frequently used tools or accessories accessible while larger items sit below it. Confirm whether the organizer you want is included with the chosen GoBox or sold separately.

Stacking and tie-down points
GoBoxes are designed to stack, and official descriptions include tie-down slots for securing them in a vehicle, trailer or camp setup. Tie the case down rather than relying on its weight to keep it in place during braking or rough travel. Use straps that fit the available slots and do not crush the lid or interfere with the latches.
Hardware and handling
Product descriptions list latches, lockports, non-slip feet and passive pressure-relief ventilation. These features address common field problems: keeping a lid closed, reducing sliding, allowing a lock, and helping equalize pressure when conditions change. Exact hardware and accessory support are model-specific, so read the current compatibility notes for caddies, tie-down kits, protective inserts, PackAttic, MOLLE panels, dividers and gear cubes before buying add-ons.

How to choose the right model
- Inventory the load. Group the equipment by size and frequency of access: small essentials, fragile items, tools, clothing or camp hardware.
- Allow room for organization. Trays and dividers consume space but prevent a deep box from becoming a single pile. If you need quick access, favor a model that supports the organizer configuration you want.
- Plan the transport position. Measure the vehicle compartment, storage shelf or trailer bay, including lid clearance. Decide whether the case will be stacked or tied down.
- Check the current specification page. Verify dimensions, empty weight, included components, color availability and accessory compatibility for that exact model.
- Separate wet and temperature-sensitive gear. Use the GoBox for organized equipment; do not use it as an ice-filled cooler or as a substitute for purpose-built food storage.
Where the “apocalypse” metaphor stops
The rugged styling and stated water-and-dust protection make GoBoxes plausible for rain, spray, dirty vehicles and disorganized camp storage. They are not evidence of indestructibility. The available official material does not provide independent drop testing, long-term field testing, impact ratings or a head-to-head comparison with other protective cases. Treat the cases as robust storage with useful organization features, not as a guarantee that every item will survive any disaster.

They are less suitable if you need a lightweight suitcase, temperature-controlled storage, exact airline luggage dimensions or independently certified impact performance. In those situations, compare purpose-built luggage, coolers or protective equipment cases instead.
