Yahoo does not publish a fixed schedule for Yahoo Mail app updates, so there is no official number of days or releases per month to expect. App updates and inbox refreshes are different: app updates come through your device’s app store, while new-message checks depend on the mail app and its settings. Yahoo documents configurable Fetch intervals for Yahoo accounts in Apple’s Mail app, but not one universal checking interval for every device.
App updates and new-mail checks are different
An app update installs a newer version of Yahoo Mail. Checking for new messages is what a mail app does to retrieve incoming email. Updating the app does not set how often it checks the inbox, and an inbox refresh does not install a newer app version.
Yahoo says it often releases app updates, but its reviewed help guidance does not give a release calendar or a next-update date. It describes updates as a way to fix common issues. Yahoo’s Android update instructions and iOS update instructions explain how to install them through the app stores.
Update Yahoo Mail on your phone or tablet
Android
- Open Google Play and find the Yahoo app.
- Tap Update if the option appears. Yahoo says that if the app is not listed among available updates, it is already up to date.
- To enable automatic updates, open Google Play’s settings and choose whether updates can download at any time or only over Wi-Fi.
Yahoo does not state how often Android app updates are released. The store’s update controls determine how available updates are downloaded to your device.

iPhone and iPad
- Open the App Store and go to its updates area.
- Find the Yahoo app and tap the update option if it is available. Yahoo says that if the app is not listed for update, you are already using the latest version.
- If you want updates to download automatically, enable the automatic app updates setting in your device’s settings.
Yahoo’s iOS app update guidance does not specify a recurring release interval.
How often does Yahoo Mail check for new email?
Yahoo Mail app
The official guidance reviewed does not establish one inbox-check interval for the Yahoo Mail app that applies to all devices. Do not infer a universal number of minutes from Yahoo’s app-update guidance; it concerns installing app versions, not retrieving messages.

Apple Mail on iPhone or iPad
If you added your Yahoo account to Apple’s Mail app, that is a separate client from the Yahoo Mail app. Yahoo says its account is designed to work with Fetch, which checks for new email at regular intervals. The interval is configurable in iOS Mail account settings, so check the setting on your device rather than assuming a single default. See Yahoo’s iOS Mail account setup guidance.

- Compare with Yahoo Mail on a computer. If the messages are missing there too, the problem may involve receiving mail on the account rather than only the phone app.
- Update the Yahoo Mail app. If the messages appear on the computer but not in the app, install any available update. Yahoo notes that an outdated mobile app may fail to connect to its servers and stop showing emails. See Yahoo’s mobile email troubleshooting guidance.
- Sign out and back in. This can reconnect the account in the Yahoo Mail app.
- Reinstall if necessary. If signing back in does not resolve the issue, uninstall and reinstall the app.
- For Apple Mail, check the account setup. Yahoo recommends verifying the account on desktop; if the iOS Mail settings are incorrect, remove the Yahoo account from Apple Mail and add it again. Follow Yahoo’s setup guidance.
When messages arrive but alerts do not
Notifications are separate from both app updates and Fetch. Yahoo says notifications need to be enabled in the device settings and in the Yahoo Mail app. If mail is present when you open the app but no alert appeared, check both controls; changing the Apple Mail Fetch interval does not itself enable Yahoo Mail app notifications. See Yahoo’s notification instructions.
