Choose the XTEINK X4 Pro if your priority is the smallest possible everyday-carry reader, physical page buttons, and freedom to load compatible files yourself. Choose a Kindle if you want a larger, sharper display and the convenience of buying and organizing books inside Amazon’s integrated ecosystem. The X4 Pro is not a universal Kindle replacement: its 4.3-inch screen is substantially smaller, its file workflow requires app or USB transfer, DRM-protected ebooks are not supported according to independent launch coverage, and it charges through pogo pins rather than USB-C.
Because “Kindle” describes several generations, this comparison uses Amazon’s 2024 basic Kindle (11th Generation) and Paperwhite (12th Generation) as reference points. Features such as IPX8 water resistance and adjustable warm light belong to the 2024 Paperwhite, not to every Kindle model.
Quick answer: which reader should you buy?
| If you care most about… | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum size and weight | XTEINK X4 Pro | Its 4.3-inch device measures 111 × 69 × 5.95 mm and weighs 72 g, according to XTEINK’s specifications. |
| A larger page and higher stated pixel density | 2024 basic Kindle | Amazon lists a 6-inch, 300 PPI display, compared with 4.3 inches and 219 PPI for the X4 Pro. |
| Buying books without managing files | Kindle | The Kindle store and library are integrated into the device and Amazon account experience. |
| Physical buttons plus touch | XTEINK X4 Pro | The X4 Pro combines page buttons, a touchscreen, and a front light. |
| Warm light and water resistance | 2024 Kindle Paperwhite | Amazon lists adjustable warm light, IPX8 waterproofing, and up to 12 weeks of battery life for the 12th-generation Paperwhite. |
| Expandable local storage | XTEINK X4 Pro | The product listing includes a 16 GB microSD card and expansion up to 256 GB. |
There is no single winner because the two products solve different problems. The X4 Pro is a very small file-based reader. Kindle is a service-centered reading platform available in several hardware sizes and feature tiers.
What exactly is being compared?
The XTEINK X4 Pro is a compact, front-lit e-reader with buttons and touch input. XTEINK lists EPUB and TXT documents, JPG and BMP images, BIN and XTF font formats, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 1100 mAh battery, and a pogo-pin charging port. Books can be imported through the company’s app or through USB mode.
#1 Best Overall
- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
For Kindle, two 2024 models provide useful reference points:
- Basic Kindle, 11th Generation: 6-inch touchscreen, 300 PPI, adjustable front light, dark mode, VoiceView over Bluetooth, USB-C, and 16 GB internal storage.
- Kindle Paperwhite, 12th Generation: touchscreen, USB-C, adjustable warm light, dark mode, 16 GB internal storage, IPX8 waterproofing, and a manufacturer-stated battery life of up to 12 weeks.
Amazon’s regional model availability differs, and older Kindles have different specifications. Confirm the generation and local listing before buying; do not assume a feature found on the Paperwhite applies to the basic Kindle.
Size and portability
The X4 Pro is genuinely pocket-sized
The X4 Pro’s 4.3-inch display is its defining advantage. XTEINK lists a body measuring 111 × 69 × 5.95 mm and a weight of 72 g. That footprint is closer to a small phone than to a conventional six- or seven-inch e-reader, so it can disappear into a small pocket or a compact bag.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSmall dimensions also change how you read. A page contains fewer words, which means more page turns and less text visible at once. Readers with large fonts or who prefer to scan several paragraphs at a time may find the compact layout restrictive. The benefit is convenience when you are standing, commuting, traveling light, or carrying a second reader alongside a larger device.
A Kindle gives you more page area
Amazon lists the 2024 basic Kindle with a 6-inch display. Exact body dimensions and weight vary by Kindle model, so the X4 Pro’s measurements should not be compared with a single generic “Kindle size.” In practical terms, the basic Kindle presents a page roughly 40 percent larger diagonally than the X4 Pro, while remaining portable enough for a bag or coat pocket.
The Paperwhite is designed around a larger reading surface and additional protection rather than maximum pocketability. If you read for long sessions, use larger type, or dislike frequent page turns, the Kindle format is the safer physical fit.
Display, pixel density, and lighting
What the stated PPI numbers mean
XTEINK specifies 219 pixels per inch for the X4 Pro. Amazon specifies 300 PPI for the 2024 basic Kindle. Higher pixel density can make small type and fine letter shapes look cleaner, but PPI alone does not determine perceived readability. Font choice, type size, contrast, lighting level, viewing distance, and the amount of text shown on each page all matter.
Rank #2
- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
The smaller X4 Pro panel may still be comfortable when you select a suitable font size and use its front light in dim conditions. It simply offers less physical room for text and fewer layout options before the type becomes too small. A 300 PPI Kindle gives you more flexibility to keep text compact while retaining crisp edges.
Front light and warm light are different
The X4 Pro includes a front light, which illuminates the display from the front for reading in low light. The 2024 basic Kindle also has an adjustable front light. Neither fact means the two lighting systems are identical; brightness range and color behavior are model-specific details.
Amazon lists an adjustable warm light on the 12th-generation Paperwhite. Warm light shifts the screen toward a more amber tone and can be useful for evening reading. No current product specification listed a warm-light feature for the X4 Pro or the 2024 basic Kindle, so do not buy either expecting Paperwhite-style color adjustment.
Controls: buttons, touch, and accessibility
X4 Pro controls
The X4 Pro combines physical page buttons with a touchscreen. Buttons let you advance or go back without touching the display, which can be useful with gloves, while holding the reader one-handed, or when you want to avoid accidentally changing the page by brushing the screen. Touch input remains available for navigation and other interactions.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →This hybrid approach is more adaptable than a button-only pocket reader, but it also gives you two control methods to learn. Button placement and the behavior of each control should be checked on the specific unit because the cited specifications establish the presence of buttons and touch, not a complete control map.
Kindle controls
The cited 2024 basic Kindle and Paperwhite models use touchscreens. Amazon also lists VoiceView over Bluetooth for the 11th-generation basic Kindle. That feature is model-specific; do not infer that every Kindle generation supports the same accessibility functions.
Touch navigation is straightforward for users accustomed to phones and tablets. Readers who strongly prefer tactile page controls should handle a Kindle in person or verify its control design before purchase, since the comparison references do not establish physical page buttons on these 2024 models.
Rank #3
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
How you get books onto each device
X4 Pro: a file-management workflow
XTEINK lists EPUB and TXT support and says books can be imported through its app or USB mode. The independent July 2026 launch coverage warns that XTEINK readers do not support DRM-protected ebooks. That limitation is central: a file can have the right extension and still fail to open if its rights protection is incompatible.
Recommended Free Tools
Use this workflow for a legitimate, compatible file:
- Check the source’s rights and format. Confirm that the ebook is supplied as a supported, non-DRM file, such as EPUB or TXT. Do not assume that every EPUB download is usable.
- Choose a transfer method. Use the XTEINK app or place the reader in USB mode as described by the device’s software.
- Copy the file to the reader or card. Keep the original file until you have opened the transferred copy successfully.
- Safely finish the connection. Eject the storage from your computer or follow the app’s completion step before disconnecting.
- Open the title and check layout. Verify that chapters, accented characters, images, and font sizing display as expected.
The X4 Pro’s support for JPG and BMP images may be useful for comics, diagrams, or scanned material, but the cited specifications do not establish how a particular image-heavy book will paginate. BIN and XTF are listed as font formats, not as general ebook formats.
Kindle: an integrated store and library
Kindle’s main convenience is that purchasing and organizing books are part of the Amazon ecosystem. You can select a title from the store, deliver it to the registered reader, and manage it through the associated library rather than manually copying files for every purchase. Exact store features, lending options, and availability vary by marketplace and account region.
This convenience comes with less freedom over file handling than a reader designed around local EPUB and TXT files. If your library is spread across independent ebook stores, public-domain repositories, or personal documents, check each source’s supported delivery method and rights restrictions before choosing Kindle as your only reader.

Storage, wireless connectivity, and expansion
XTEINK lists a 16 GB microSD card in the X4 Pro and expansion up to 256 GB. That is removable storage rather than the same type of sealed internal storage used by the cited Kindles. A card can make a large personal library easier to carry, but it also introduces another component that can be misplaced, corrupted, or formatted incorrectly.
The X4 Pro includes 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth according to XTEINK’s product specifications. Those radios support its app-based workflow and wireless accessories where compatible; the specifications do not establish a complete list of Bluetooth profiles or services.
Rank #4
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.

- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you - 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
Amazon lists 16 GB of internal storage for both the 2024 basic Kindle and the 12th-generation Paperwhite. Internal storage is simpler for most buyers because there is no card to install or manage. Available capacity is lower than the X4 Pro’s stated expansion ceiling, but the appropriate amount depends on whether you store mostly text novels or many image-heavy documents.
Charging and battery expectations
X4 Pro uses pogo pins
The X4 Pro charges through a pogo-pin port. XTEINK lists a magnetic charging adapter in the box but says a charging cable is not included. Plan your charging setup around that adapter and verify what cable or power source you already own; pogo-pin charging is not interchangeable with the USB-C cable used by the cited 2024 Kindles.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →XTEINK lists a 1100 mAh battery but does not publish a rated runtime in the cited specifications. Battery life will vary with front-light brightness, wireless use, page-turn frequency, and standby behavior, so the capacity number should not be converted into a promised number of days.
Kindle uses USB-C; Paperwhite has a published runtime claim
Amazon lists USB-C charging for the 2024 basic Kindle and 12th-generation Paperwhite. USB-C is a common connector, which can simplify travel if your other devices use the same cable.
Amazon states up to 12 weeks of battery life for the 12th-generation Paperwhite. “Up to” is a manufacturer claim under its stated test conditions, not an independent measurement and not a guarantee for every reading pattern. The cited identification information does not provide a comparable runtime figure for the basic Kindle.
Water resistance and physical protection
No waterproof rating is established for the X4 Pro in the cited specifications. Treat it as an un-rated electronic device around baths, pools, rain, and drinks unless XTEINK publishes a specific rating for your unit. XTEINK lists a protective case, matte or tempered-glass screen protectors, and adhesive metal rings as accessories; confirm exact X4 Pro compatibility before ordering.
Amazon lists the 12th-generation Paperwhite as IPX8 waterproof. IPX8 describes a tested water-ingress condition, not unlimited exposure to every liquid or situation; follow Amazon’s care guidance for the specific model. The cited 2024 basic Kindle information does not establish the same rating, so do not attribute Paperwhite water resistance to the basic model.
Best Value
- Our fastest Kindle Paperwhite ever – The next-generation 7“ Paperwhite display has a higher contrast ratio and 25% faster page turns.
Price and availability
XTEINK’s product page listed the X4 Pro at $99 and showed it as sold out when accessed in 2026. That is a time- and market-specific snapshot, not a standing price or a promise that inventory will return. Check the manufacturer’s current listing or an authorized local seller before making a purchase decision.
Kindle prices, discounts, storage options, and regional availability change frequently. Confirm whether a listing is for the 2024 basic Kindle (11th Generation), the 2024 Paperwhite (12th Generation), or an older generation. Compare the delivered price, warranty terms, and return policy in your country rather than relying on a historical US price.
Setup checklists
Set up an X4 Pro for a personal ebook library
- Charge the reader with the supplied magnetic adapter and your compatible power setup.
- Insert or verify the listed microSD card if you plan to use removable storage.
- Connect through the XTEINK app or USB mode.
- Transfer one known-good, non-DRM EPUB or TXT file first.
- Open it, adjust font size and front-light brightness, and check page turns.
- Only after that test succeeds, transfer the rest of your library in batches.
Set up a Kindle for store-based reading
- Charge the Kindle over USB-C.
- Complete the device’s first-run connection and sign in to the Amazon account you use for Kindle purchases.
- Allow the library to synchronize, then download a small selection for offline reading.
- Adjust the front light, text size, and dark mode to match your reading environment.
- If you chose a Paperwhite, configure warm-light intensity for evening reading and review its water-care guidance.
Regional menus and account prompts can differ, so use the on-screen instructions for the specific generation you bought.

“The X4 Pro opens EPUB files, so every EPUB should work.”
Not necessarily. DRM and source-specific restrictions can prevent a file from opening even when its extension is supported. Verify rights and compatibility before transferring a large library. Do not attempt to remove DRM; instead, obtain a permitted format or use the service and device that supports the title.
“The X4 Pro is a smaller Kindle.”
It is smaller, but the ecosystem is different. Kindle emphasizes Amazon delivery and library management, while the X4 Pro expects you to supply compatible files through an app or USB. Treat them as different workflows rather than interchangeable versions of the same product.
“The 12-week battery claim applies to every Kindle.”
Amazon’s cited up-to-12-week figure belongs to the 12th-generation Paperwhite. The basic Kindle’s identification listing does not provide that same runtime claim. Model and usage conditions matter.
“Pogo-pin charging is just USB-C with a different shape.”
It is a different charging interface. The X4 Pro’s magnetic adapter and missing in-box charging cable require more planning than the USB-C setup listed for the cited 2024 Kindles. Keep the adapter with the reader when traveling.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“A higher PPI guarantees easier reading.”
Pixel density affects edge sharpness, but the physical screen size, font settings, contrast, and lighting also determine comfort. Compare your preferred font size and typical reading distance, not only the PPI number.
Which reader fits each type of reader?
Choose the XTEINK X4 Pro when portability is the deciding factor
- You want a 72 g reader that can fit in unusually small pockets.
- You like physical page buttons but still want touchscreen navigation.
- You need a front light for variable lighting.
- You already maintain a collection of compatible, non-DRM EPUB or TXT files.
- You value removable storage and are comfortable managing a microSD card.
Choose the basic 2024 Kindle for a straightforward general-purpose reader
- You prefer a 6-inch page over the X4 Pro’s 4.3-inch display.
- You want the sharper 300 PPI specification listed by Amazon.
- You want adjustable front light, dark mode, and VoiceView over Bluetooth as identified for this generation.
- You want USB-C charging and 16 GB of internal storage.
- You expect to buy and organize most books through Amazon’s Kindle ecosystem.
Choose the 2024 Paperwhite for comfort and protection
- You want adjustable warm light for evening reading.
- You need the IPX8 waterproof rating listed by Amazon.
- You value Amazon’s stated up-to-12-week battery-life claim under its test conditions.
- You are willing to carry a larger device in exchange for a more spacious reading surface.
Bottom line
The XTEINK X4 Pro is the specialist choice: exceptionally small, light, front-lit, and equipped with both buttons and touch. Its trade-offs are equally specific—less page area, lower stated pixel density than the 2024 basic Kindle, manual file transfer, no established waterproof rating, pogo-pin charging, and no published runtime figure in the cited specifications.
A 2024 Kindle is the safer all-round recommendation when Amazon’s store and library matter more than absolute pocketability. The basic Kindle offers a 6-inch, 300 PPI display and USB-C, while the Paperwhite adds warm light, IPX8 water resistance, and an up-to-12-week battery claim. Select the exact generation first, then decide whether your priority is the X4 Pro’s tiny form factor or Kindle’s integrated reading ecosystem.
