No—not today. Xona Space Systems’ Pulsar is a planned low-Earth-orbit positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) service designed to operate alongside GPS and other GNSS signals, not switch them off. Xona’s October 2026 deployment account described intermittent early service, while full activation still depends on building and launching hundreds more satellites.
What is Xona Pulsar?
Pulsar is Xona Space Systems’ planned constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites for positioning, navigation and timing. Those services determine where something is and how it moves, and provide precise time used by communications, industry and infrastructure.
Xona says Pulsar broadcasts alongside existing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, including GPS, and is designed to integrate with compatible GNSS receivers. The intended near-term role is an additional source of positioning and timing observations that can complement or check GNSS-derived results.

Can Xona Pulsar replace GPS?
Not at its current deployment stage. GPS is an operating GNSS, while Pulsar is still being built out. Xona’s October 9, 2026 account described only intermittent broadcasts for early customers, not continuous global coverage. The company says hundreds more satellites are needed for full activation.

That makes resilience and augmentation a more accurate description of Pulsar’s near-term purpose than GPS replacement. A separate constellation could give compatible users another signal source, but it would need broad coverage, reliable continuity, supported receivers and independently validated performance before it could serve as a general substitute.
How does Xona Pulsar work?
GNSS systems use satellites to broadcast signals that receivers use to calculate position and time. Pulsar uses satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), closer to Earth than the medium-Earth-orbit satellites used by traditional GNSS. Xona lists dual-band X1 and X5 signals and says its service is compatible with GNSS receivers using L1 or L5.
Xona and its partners argue that LEO’s closer orbit can mean stronger received signals and faster satellite motion. Those characteristics are intended to help where satellite reception is challenging, such as dense urban settings or beneath foliage. Actual results will depend on how many Pulsar satellites are deployed and visible, receiver support, signal availability and validation in real-world operation.

What is Pulsar’s deployment status?
Pulsar-0 validation mission
Pulsar-0, the first production-class spacecraft, launched in June 2025 for technology validation and early live-sky tests. Xona said the satellite flew without a propulsion system, a trade-off that reduced its mission capability and lifetime compared with the original plan.
Intermittent early service described for October 2026
In a post dated October 9, 2026, Xona said six satellites were scheduled to launch aboard Bandwagon-5 that month. Four were intended to support first intermittent service in initial markets, and two were in-house test satellites. Xona described eight broadcasts per day, each lasting about 25 minutes, for early customers across the United States, Canada and most of Europe. This was a schedule and service description; it does not confirm that the launch later took place.
Full constellation remains a longer-term goal
Xona’s product page describes an approximately 300-satellite constellation and says rollout is planned over the next few years. Its deployment account says hundreds more spacecraft must be built, launched and operated before full activation. The stated rollout is a plan, not a guarantee of when continuous global coverage will be available.

- GPS baud needs to be set to 9600 instead of 4800; PPS pin is not needed unless using the GPS to drive a hardware high precision clock

- Note: Please use the GT-U7 GPS module in an open place, the LED will flash after the satellite signal is found. Bad weather and indoor use will affect the accuracy of positioning
How accurate and strong does Xona say Pulsar is?
Xona’s product specifications, accessed October 11, 2026, state horizontal positioning accuracy of 2 cm and vertical accuracy of 4 cm, timing accuracy under 10 ns, and signal power up to −136 dBW. Xona describes that signal power as 100 times GPS L1 C/A. These are company-published specifications, not an independent assessment of operational service performance.

Those, too, are company-reported test results; they do not establish performance across a deployed constellation or in general customer use.
So the figures should not be read as proof that Pulsar is already more accurate than GPS for everyday users. The specifications and test results describe different kinds of evidence, and the available account does not provide an independent, like-for-like comparison under common conditions.

What about spoofing, jamming and signal security?
Xona says Pulsar uses cryptographic signal encryption and range authentication to guard against spoofing. Its announcement of an AFRL STAR-FISH demonstration described planned tests of resilience to jamming and spoofing, multipath reduction and security key distribution. Planned demonstrations are not the same as independently verified operational protection, and the available information does not establish how Pulsar performs against these threats in routine service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will Pulsar work with my GNSS receiver?
Possibly, but compatibility depends on the receiver model and its firmware. Xona says many GNSS receivers using L1 or L5 may be able to receive Pulsar after firmware updates. That broad statement does not verify any particular retail receiver. Check with the receiver manufacturer or Xona for model-specific support before treating existing equipment as Pulsar-ready.
A compatible receiver alone would not mean a consumer can buy or use a continuous Pulsar service today. Availability also depends on the constellation’s deployment and the service arrangements for a particular customer.

Who is working with Xona, and what might Pulsar be used for?
Xona’s partner announcements point mainly to professional, industrial and defense applications; they describe collaborations, demonstrations or potential use cases rather than finished products available to all customers.
- Defense and receiver demonstrations: Xona’s AFRL STAR-FISH announcement named QinetiQ, StarNav and Locus Lock as partners demonstrating commercial user equipment.
- Industrial and defense positioning: Septentrio reported tracking Pulsar-0 and an MOU with Xona covering receiver development and testing. It listed possible applications including drones, autonomous vehicles, agriculture, construction, mining, robotics, timing and critical infrastructure.
- Construction, surveying and mapping: Trimble and Xona announced a collaboration to pursue integration of Trimble correction services with Pulsar, with automotive and IoT also among the stated use cases.
- Industrial positioning and timing: Murata and Xona announced an MOU to explore solutions in these areas.
These announcements indicate areas companies are exploring; they do not show that every listed application is currently served by Pulsar.
Quick Recap
What still needs to be demonstrated?
- Deployment and continuity: Xona’s described early service is intermittent. A much larger constellation is required for full activation.
- Coverage in practice: The planned footprint and schedule do not establish continuous service in every region.
- Receiver support: L1/L5 compatibility and possible firmware updates are not a substitute for confirmation of a specific model.
- Performance at scale: Company specifications and Pulsar-0 test reports do not independently verify full-service accuracy, timing or signal resilience.
- Customer availability: Partner work and potential applications do not establish a broad consumer offer or the ability to access Pulsar through an ordinary receiver alone.
