Short answer: choose the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max if it is officially available where you live and you value a 3:2, 144Hz LCD, USB-C video input, 120W charging and up to 16GB of RAM. Choose Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra if you want a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, an included S Pen, an IP68 rating, Wi-Fi 7 and microSD expansion up to 2TB. Those are specification-based fits, not proof that either tablet is faster, lasts longer in normal use or offers better value.

There is an important regional qualification. The Pad 9 Pro Max was reported as a China launch on September 7, 2026, starting at CNY 4,799, while international availability, local pricing, warranty coverage and localized software were not confirmed in that launch reporting. Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S12 series on September 30, 2026; this comparison uses the flagship S12 Ultra, with the smaller S12+ noted where portability matters.

What “Samsung Galaxy Tab” means in this comparison

“Samsung Galaxy Tab” describes a broad product family rather than one tablet. A fair large-screen comparison therefore needs a specific model. The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is Samsung’s flagship-sized reference here, with a 14.6-inch display. Samsung also offers the Galaxy Tab S12+, which has a smaller 12.6-inch screen and is the more relevant alternative if the Ultra is physically too large for your bag, desk or lap.

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max is a single reported model from Xiaomi’s September 2026 China launch. The available specifications are launch-report figures, not results from an independent hands-on test. That distinction matters throughout this article: screen technology, battery capacity and charging ratings can be compared on paper, but real-world speed, endurance, heat, software behavior and value cannot be declared from these sources alone.

Display: LCD with a taller canvas versus Samsung AMOLED

Xiaomi’s 13.3-inch 3:2 panel

The Pad 9 Pro Max is reported to use a 13.3-inch LCD with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 3,408 × 2,272 resolution. The 3:2 shape is taller than the widescreen proportions used by many tablets. For documents, web pages, coding windows and split-screen work, that extra vertical area can reduce scrolling or leave more room above and below a video. Those are layout consequences of the aspect ratio, not a claim that the tablet is faster or more comfortable in every application.

The reported 144Hz refresh rate is higher than Samsung’s listed 120Hz. A higher refresh ceiling can make supported scrolling and animation appear smoother when software and content use it, although the launch report does not establish how consistently applications run at 144Hz or how that setting affects battery use. Xiaomi claims brightness of up to 1,000 nits. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a guarantee that the entire screen maintains that level in every mode or environment.

Samsung’s 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X

The S12 Ultra has a larger 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display at 2,960 × 1,848 and 120Hz. AMOLED technology allows each pixel to emit its own light, while an LCD uses a separate backlight. That fundamental difference can affect perceived blacks and contrast, but no independent measurement or hands-on viewing comparison was established here. Samsung’s panel is also wider in physical presentation than Xiaomi’s 3:2 screen, which may suit video timelines, cinematic content and large canvases while making the Ultra less compact.

Resolution should be read together with screen size and aspect ratio. Xiaomi lists more pixels in each dimension, while Samsung’s panel is larger diagonally and uses a different shape. Neither number alone proves that text, photographs or video will look better in normal use. The practical choice is whether you prefer Xiaomi’s taller work area and 144Hz specification or Samsung’s larger AMOLED surface.

Performance: what the processor claims do—and do not—tell you

Xiaomi’s Pad 9 Pro Max is reported with the Xring O3 processor and configurations reaching 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Notebookcheck’s launch coverage reports Xiaomi’s own benchmark and performance figures; they should be treated as manufacturer claims rather than independently reproduced results. Samsung identifies a 3nm processor in the S12 Ultra and makes generational performance claims compared with the S11 Ultra. Samsung’s figures are likewise company claims.

There is no comparable independent benchmark in the available evidence testing the Xring O3 against the S12 Ultra’s processor. It would therefore be inaccurate to name a winner for gaming, video editing, multitasking, artificial-intelligence workloads or sustained performance. RAM capacity can influence how many applications remain in memory, but it does not by itself establish application speed, thermal behavior or software optimization.

Choose based on workload requirements, not an unverified winner

  • For a desktop-like workflow, first verify that the applications you need are available and properly localized in your region. The evidence does not establish software support differences between the two tablets.
  • For demanding games or long exports, look for independent thermal and sustained-performance testing before buying. Neither the launch report nor Samsung’s announcement supplies that comparison.
  • For large local projects, Xiaomi’s reported 1TB maximum may reduce the need for removable storage, while Samsung’s microSD slot allows capacity expansion beyond the built-in configuration.
  • For everyday browsing and media, processor branding alone is not a reliable reason to choose one model without third-party testing.

Battery and charging: capacity is not the same as endurance

Xiaomi’s reported 12,000mAh and 120W figures

The Pad 9 Pro Max is reported with a 12,000mAh battery and 120W charging. These figures describe capacity and the advertised charging system; they do not establish how many hours the tablet lasts under a particular workload or how quickly a complete charge takes in a buyer’s region. Charger inclusion, regional electrical standards, temperature and charging behavior were not established by the cited launch report.

Samsung’s “up to 23 hours” claim

Samsung lists up to 23 hours of video playback for the S12 Ultra. The published footnote describes local testing with 720p video, 162-nit brightness, the default player, earbuds at volume level 7, and both Wi-Fi and mobile networks turned off. Samsung also notes that results vary with settings and usage. That is a useful manufacturer test reference, but it is not directly comparable with Xiaomi’s battery-capacity figure. A capacity number in milliamp-hours and a playback-hours claim measure different things.

  • WRITE, DRAW, DO IT ALL: S Pen is mightier than your average writing tool. The responsive design and intuitive integration with intelligent features make drawing, jotting down notes and even doing math easier than ever
  • SPACE TO KEEP WHAT MATTERS MOST: More storage means deleting less apps, photos, videos and files. Galaxy Tab S10 Lite comes with up to 256GB³ of storage. And if you need even more, you can add up to 2TB with a microSD card.⁹
  • THE POWER OF ENHANCED PERFORMANCE: Galaxy Tab S10 Lite boasts an Exynos 1380 processor that lets you stream, scroll, note, search and even multitask with ease

Real use can include a brighter display, wireless networking, games, camera use, background synchronization and demanding applications. Without a matched independent test using the same brightness, network conditions and workload, neither tablet can be declared the battery-life winner. If charging speed is your priority, Xiaomi’s 120W specification is the relevant paper advantage; if you need a published playback estimate, Samsung supplies one with clear test qualifications.

Work and creativity features

USB-C video input on the Xiaomi

Launch reporting says the Xiaomi tablet’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort video input, allowing the Pad 9 Pro Max to function as a secondary display. This is a distinctive workflow feature for a laptop user who wants a portable monitor or a second screen for a desktop setup. The report establishes the input capability, but not compatibility with every computer, cable, operating system or resolution. Confirm those details before building a workflow around it.

S Pen and keyboard choices on the Samsung

Samsung lists an S Pen as included with the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. That reduces the need to purchase a separate pen for handwriting, annotation or drawing, although the evidence here does not assess latency, pressure response or application support. Samsung also lists Book Cover Keyboard options, so keyboard cost and bundle contents should be checked for the exact regional package.

Xiaomi’s floating keyboard is reported as a separate purchase. The cited material does not establish a bundled stylus or a Xiaomi keyboard price. Treat accessory compatibility and total cost as open questions until the exact market listing confirms them. Do not assume that a keyboard or pen made for another Pad or Galaxy Tab generation will fit.

Connectivity, storage and durability

Expandable storage

Samsung lists microSD expansion up to 2TB for the S12 Ultra. That is useful for large video libraries, photographs, downloaded media and project files when the internal configuration is not enough. Xiaomi is reported with up to 1TB of internal storage, but the cited launch report does not establish a microSD slot. The larger internal option may be convenient, while Samsung’s removable expansion offers a different kind of flexibility.

Wireless and wired connections

Samsung lists Wi-Fi 7 for the S12 Ultra. The Xiaomi launch report does not establish a Wi-Fi generation, so no conclusion about wireless speed or range can be made from this comparison. Xiaomi’s confirmed differentiator in the available material is USB-C DP video input. Samsung’s published specifications do not establish an equivalent video-input mode.

Water and dust protection

Samsung lists an IP68 rating, which is a formal ingress-protection classification for the device under specified test conditions. Xiaomi’s cited launch report does not provide a water- or dust-resistance rating. Do not infer that the Pad 9 Pro Max has the same protection, and do not treat an unlisted rating as evidence of weakness; it is simply not established in the available information.

Availability, price and warranty are decisive

The Xiaomi was reported as launching in China on September 7, 2026, at CNY 4,799 for an 8GB/256GB starting configuration. That figure is tied to the Chinese market and cannot be converted into a guaranteed overseas retail price. The launch report did not confirm international sales, local taxes, warranty service, software localization or network compatibility. A buyer outside China should verify all five before ordering through an importer.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S12 series on September 30, 2026, and Samsung’s U.S. comparison material provides the S12 Ultra specifications used here. The available evidence does not provide a directly comparable S12 Ultra price. Check the current listing in your country, the included accessories, storage tier, cellular or Wi-Fi configuration and return policy. Comparing CNY 4,799 with an unlisted U.S. or European price would create a false value comparison.

Questions to answer before importing the Xiaomi

  1. Is the Pad 9 Pro Max officially sold in your country, or would the purchase rely on an importer?
  2. Who provides warranty repair and how are returns handled?
  3. Which Android build, language options and regional services are installed?
  4. Does the charger support your electrical standard, and is it included?
  5. Will local networks, accessories and the USB-C display-input setup work as expected?

Which tablet fits which buyer?

Choose the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max when these priorities match

  • You can confirm official local availability, warranty and software support.
  • You prefer a 13.3-inch 3:2 work canvas rather than Samsung’s larger 14.6-inch display.
  • A reported 144Hz LCD and Xiaomi’s up-to-1,000-nit brightness claim matter to your specification checklist.
  • You want USB-C DP video input for a possible secondary-display setup.
  • 120W charging and a reported 12,000mAh battery are more important to you than Samsung’s published playback claim.
  • You want a configuration reported as high as 16GB RAM or 1TB internal storage.

These are reasons the specification sheet may fit your use case. They are not independently tested advantages.

Choose the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra when these priorities match

  • You want Samsung’s 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display.
  • You want an S Pen included rather than treating the stylus as a separate purchase.
  • You need a listed IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
  • You value Wi-Fi 7 and microSD expansion up to 2TB.
  • You prefer a product with Samsung’s published regional specifications rather than an uncertain international launch.
  • You want a manufacturer-published video-playback claim, understanding its specific test conditions.

Consider the Galaxy Tab S12+ instead of the Ultra

The S12+ has a 12.6-inch display, making it the smaller member of Samsung’s new series. The available material does not provide a full S12+ specification table, so it should not be assumed to match every Ultra feature or configuration. Its relevance is physical size: shoppers who find a 14.6-inch tablet excessive should investigate the S12+ directly.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Set your market first. Confirm an official Xiaomi sales channel and warranty, or compare the risks and costs of importing. For Samsung, select your country’s exact S12 Ultra listing.
  2. Choose the screen shape for your work. Pick Xiaomi’s reported 3:2 layout for a taller document-oriented canvas, or Samsung’s larger AMOLED panel for maximum diagonal space and a different media-friendly shape.
  3. Budget for accessories. Xiaomi’s floating keyboard is reported as separate. Samsung includes the S Pen, while Book Cover Keyboard options are listed separately; verify the bundle you are buying.
  4. Decide how you will store files. Xiaomi offers reported internal configurations up to 1TB. Samsung offers 12GB RAM configurations and microSD expansion up to 2TB.
  5. Check your display workflow. If using a tablet as a monitor is central, validate the computer, cable and software requirements for Xiaomi’s USB-C DP input.
  6. Use battery claims correctly. Treat Xiaomi’s 12,000mAh/120W figures and Samsung’s up-to-23-hour test result as different measurements, not a head-to-head endurance score.
  7. Wait for independent testing when performance is critical. No matched benchmark, thermal test, display measurement or real-world battery comparison is established here.

What this comparison can and cannot conclude

The published information supports a detailed specification comparison and a buyer-fit decision. It supports saying that Xiaomi reports a high-refresh 3:2 LCD, USB-C video input, 120W charging and configurations up to 16GB/1TB, and that Samsung lists an AMOLED display, included S Pen, IP68, Wi-Fi 7 and microSD expansion. It does not support declaring a universal winner for speed, screen quality in person, battery endurance or value.

The most consequential uncertainty is Xiaomi’s market status outside China. Until official regional listings provide price, warranty and software details, a seemingly attractive specification sheet may not translate into a straightforward purchase. Samsung’s broader regional presence may make the S12 Ultra easier to evaluate locally, but the exact price and bundle still depend on country and configuration.

Samsung’s positioning reflects that distinction. At the September 30 announcement, Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, said: “The Galaxy Tab S12 series is designed for people who are constantly exploring new ideas, developing new skills and bringing their ambitions to life.” That is Samsung’s marketing statement, not an independent assessment of the tablet.
