For most buyers, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is the safer choice. It is a current, broadly marketed model with a published retail launch, a redesigned 4:3 inner display, a 10:16 cover display, and established local support channels. The Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 is compelling if you specifically want Xiaomi hardware and are comfortable importing a China-market phone after checking firmware, network bands, warranty, taxes, and returns.
This is not a same-year comparison: the MIX Fold 4 was unveiled in July 2024, while Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold8 on July 22, 2026. The evidence available for this comparison does not establish a newer MIX Fold model or a global launch of the MIX Fold 4.
The short answer: buy the Galaxy Z Fold8 unless you have a specific reason to import
The Galaxy Z Fold8 fits buyers who want a current Samsung foldable that can be ordered through a defined launch ecosystem, including Amazon.com in the United States, with a published starting price and local carrier and service arrangements to verify. Its standard configuration uses a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 ratio and a 5.5-inch cover display with a 10:16 ratio. Samsung positions the inner panel for reading, video, games, and multitasking, while the cover is intended for quick interactions.

Xiaomi’s official product material reviewed for this comparison is on its China site. That confirms the phone exists; it does not establish worldwide sales, local software support, warranty coverage, repair access, or compatibility with every country’s cellular networks.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Neither phone can be called the independently tested winner from the available evidence. The published material provides specifications and manufacturer claims, not a same-condition test of battery life, camera quality, durability, or performance.
What exactly is being compared?
| Phone | Launch evidence | Market position | Availability qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 | Unveiled by Xiaomi in July 2024 | Latest MIX Fold generation established in the available material | Official product material is China-market; global sale and support are not established |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 | Announced July 22, 2026; general availability began August 7, 2026 | Current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold model | Samsung published market-specific launch information, including US, euro-area, and UK pricing; local configuration and service still require checking |
The title “Xiaomi Mix Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold” can otherwise suggest a same-generation contest. It is not one here. You are comparing Xiaomi’s 2024 MIX Fold 4 with Samsung’s 2026 Galaxy Z Fold8, so launch timing, software age, retailer inventory, and support terms matter as much as the component list.
Specification comparison
| Specification | Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inner display | Not stated in the cited Xiaomi material | 7.6 inches; 4:3 ratio | Samsung’s square-like inner layout is a central part of its Fold8 design |
| Cover display | Not stated in the cited Xiaomi material | 5.5 inches; 10:16 ratio | Do not assume the two phones feel alike when closed; physical dimensions and aspect ratio govern one-handed use |
| Weight | Not stated in the cited Xiaomi excerpt | 201 g | Samsung calls Fold8 the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet; no numerical Xiaomi comparison is established here |
| Battery capacity | 5,100 mAh | 4,800 mAh | Capacity is not a direct measure of endurance |
| Processor platform | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform | Not stated in the cited Samsung material | A platform name alone does not establish real-world speed or efficiency across different software |
| Rear cameras | Leica optical quad-camera system | Dual 50 MP wide and ultra-wide cameras | Lens count and megapixels do not determine image quality without comparable testing |
| Published launch price | Not established; use a current, country-specific offer and include import costs | $1,899.99 US; €1,999; £1,699 at launch | Samsung figures are launch prices and can change with promotions, trade-ins, tax, and inventory |

Displays and everyday ergonomics
Galaxy Z Fold8: a 4:3 tablet-like inner panel
Samsung’s 7.6-inch inner display uses a 4:3 ratio. That shape gives documents, web pages, two-column apps, and side-by-side multitasking more horizontal room than a conventional phone. Video recorded for wider cinema formats may still show unused space or require cropping, depending on the app and content. Samsung’s stated use cases are video, games, reading, and multitasking; those are positioning claims rather than independent usability tests.
When closed, the 5.5-inch 10:16 cover screen is intended for quick interactions. Messaging, authentication prompts, navigation checks, and short replies can be handled without opening the device. Whether it is comfortable for your typing style depends on the actual width of the phone and your hands, so try the cover keyboard before buying if possible.
MIX Fold 4: verify the physical experience rather than inferring it
The cited Xiaomi material does not provide the MIX Fold 4’s display dimensions or ratios. Do not infer that its panels match Samsung’s proportions, or that a larger numerical screen would feel larger in practice. A prospective buyer should confirm the exact regional specification and, where possible, handle a sample. Closed thickness, hinge position, cover-screen width, crease visibility, and the way apps letterbox or stretch can affect daily use more than diagonal measurements alone.

How to choose based on your habits
- Choose the Fold8 layout if you frequently read long pages, edit documents, run two apps at once, or want Samsung’s clearly documented 4:3 inner screen.
- Investigate the MIX Fold 4 only after confirming its exact display and software behavior in the listing you would actually buy; imported variants may differ in firmware and language support.
- If most of your use is on the closed phone, compare the cover-screen width and keyboard in person. An inner display you rarely open is not a reason by itself to accept an awkward outer screen.
Portability, hinge design, and durability claims
Samsung lists the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201 g and calls it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. That is a manufacturer specification for the standard model, not a universal statement about every regional configuration or accessory combination.
Xiaomi’s 2024 corporate disclosure says the MIX Fold 4 is lighter and thinner than its predecessor, and reports a 34% reduction in hinge volume and a 16% reduction in hinge weight. Those percentages are Xiaomi’s comparisons and have not been independently measured in the evidence available here. The disclosure excerpt does not provide the phone’s final weight, so a numerical weight-versus-weight conclusion would be unjustified.
Foldable hinges and flexible displays are wear components. The supplied evidence does not establish a comparative durability rating, cycle test, water-resistance result, or repair-cost difference between these two models. Treat any retailer statement about long-term toughness as a claim to verify, not as proof that one device will survive more folds.
Battery capacity and endurance
What the numbers say
The MIX Fold 4 has a reported 5,100 mAh battery, while Samsung lists 4,800 mAh for the Galaxy Z Fold8. The Xiaomi figure is larger on paper, but battery capacity alone cannot predict endurance. Display size and brightness, modem behavior, camera use, processor efficiency, background services, network strength, and software tuning all affect runtime.
Samsung says the Fold8 supports more than 26 hours of video playback. This is a manufacturer-stated result, and the relevant brightness, codec, network, app, and battery-test conditions are not supplied in the comparison material. It should be used as a reference point rather than a promise for mixed daily use.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

How to make a fair battery decision
- Decide whether your workload is mostly cover-screen messaging, inner-screen reading, gaming, photography, or cellular video streaming.
- Check the exact software build and battery-management settings on the model sold in your country.
- Compare independent tests only when they use the same brightness, refresh behavior, network conditions, and workload. No such direct test is established for the MIX Fold 4 versus Fold8 here.
- Budget for a power bank or charging routine if your work depends on the inner display all day; do not choose solely from the 5,100 mAh versus 4,800 mAh difference.
Cameras: more lenses do not settle the question
Xiaomi describes the MIX Fold 4 as having a Leica optical quad-camera system. Samsung describes the Galaxy Z Fold8 with dual 50 MP wide and ultra-wide cameras. These descriptions establish the manufacturers’ camera configurations, not which phone produces better photos.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Avoid treating “quad-camera” as automatically superior to “dual 50 MP,” or megapixel count as a substitute for a test.
For an import, also check whether the camera firmware, regional shutter-sound rules, language options, and supported local apps match your needs. Those details can vary by market and software version.
Performance and software ownership
Hardware performance
Xiaomi identifies the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform in the MIX Fold 4. The cited Samsung launch material does not establish the Fold8 processor specification for this comparison. A processor name is not a benchmark: sustained performance, thermal limits, app optimization, storage configuration, and software updates all influence the experience.
No direct test establishes which phone is faster, cooler, or better for gaming. If high-performance gaming is your priority, look for tests that identify the exact model, firmware, storage tier, graphics settings, frame-rate method, and temperature conditions.

Software, Google services, and local support
The most consequential difference may be ownership risk rather than raw hardware. Before importing the MIX Fold 4, verify all of the following in writing with the seller:
- Whether the device uses its original China firmware or a modified/alternate ROM.
- Which system languages are available.
- Whether Google Play services and the apps you need work normally.
- Support for your country’s 4G and 5G bands, VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM, and emergency-calling requirements, where applicable.
- Bootloader, banking-app, digital-wallet, and streaming-service behavior after updates.
- Who provides warranty service, where repairs are performed, and who pays two-way shipping.
- The return window, restocking conditions, import paperwork, and refund method.
For the Fold8, confirm the local model number, carrier compatibility, update policy, repair terms, and service-center coverage for your country. Samsung’s broader retail presence reduces uncertainty, but it does not remove the need to check local terms.
The available sources do not support a blanket statement that Samsung software is better than Xiaomi software, or vice versa. They support a narrower conclusion: Samsung’s Fold8 has a documented launch and retail path, while the MIX Fold 4’s global support is not established by the official China-market product page.

Samsung announced general availability from August 7, 2026 and named Amazon.com among US launch retailers. A launch announcement is not a guarantee of current stock or the lowest price. Why a MIX Fold 4 import can cost more than its sticker price
There is no single globally established MIX Fold 4 price in the available evidence. A credible comparison must use the offer for your country and add shipping, customs duty, import tax, payment fees, warranty coverage, possible repair shipping, and the cost of returning a defective unit. A lower marketplace price can disappear once those costs and risks are included.

Do not assume that a marketplace listing means Xiaomi officially sells or supports the phone in your country. Confirm the seller’s identity and the exact model before paying.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which phone fits each type of buyer?
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 when
- You want the current Samsung foldable generation rather than a 2024 device.
- You value a defined retail launch, published local pricing, and a clearer path to carrier, warranty, and repair support.
- The 7.6-inch 4:3 inner display and 5.5-inch 10:16 cover display match how you read, multitask, and type.
- You prefer to avoid firmware, import-tax, and cross-border return uncertainty.
- You are willing to pay the published premium launch price or wait for a local promotion.
Consider the MIX Fold 4 when
- You specifically prefer Xiaomi’s hardware design and Leica optical quad-camera approach.
- The phone is available from a seller you can verify, with a return route you can realistically use.
- You have confirmed Google services, required languages, local cellular bands, and your essential apps.
- You understand that official global availability and local Xiaomi support are not established by the China-market product page.
- The complete import cost remains attractive after taxes, shipping, warranty, and repair risks.
Wait or choose neither when
- You cannot verify the MIX Fold 4’s firmware or network compatibility.
- You need guaranteed local repair and a straightforward return process but only find gray-market listings.
- You require independent battery, camera, or durability results before purchasing; those direct comparisons are not established here.
- Your budget cannot absorb a high-cost repair or a failed import return.
Step-by-step checklist for buying an imported MIX Fold 4
- Identify the exact model. Record the model number, storage and memory configuration, color, firmware region, and whether the unit is new, refurbished, or opened.
- Validate network support. Compare the listed LTE and 5G bands with your carrier’s published bands. Ask specifically about VoLTE, WiFi calling, eSIM, and emergency services.
- Validate software. Ask which ROM is installed, which languages are supported, whether Google Play services are official and updateable, and whether bootloader changes affect banking or streaming apps.
- Price the complete import. Add shipping, tax, customs, payment fees, and any brokerage charges to the advertised price.
- Read the warranty terms. Determine whether Xiaomi or only the seller covers defects, where repairs occur, who pays shipping, and how long parts and labor are covered.
- Test the return path before ordering. Confirm the return deadline, required evidence, restocking fee, return address, and refund timing.
- Keep transaction evidence. Save the listing, invoice, model number, serial or IMEI, firmware screenshots, and the seller’s written answers.
- Inspect immediately. On arrival, check the hinge, inner and outer displays, cameras, charging, speakers, biometric unlock, cellular registration, app installation, and software-update behavior while the return window is open.
Step-by-step checklist for buying the Galaxy Z Fold8
- Choose the correct regional model. Match the phone’s model number to your country and carrier before opening the box.
- Compare the total checkout price. Include tax, activation fees, trade-in conditions, storage tier, and any promotion that expires after a specified date.
- Confirm seller and warranty. A listing on a launch retailer does not by itself prove that every marketplace seller is authorized or that the warranty is local.
- Check carrier features. Verify supported bands, VoLTE, WiFi calling, eSIM, and 5G access with your carrier.
- Read return and repair terms. Foldables can require specialized service; know the service-center process and any exclusions before purchase.
- Test both screens during the return period. Check touch response, cameras, speakers, hinge alignment, biometrics, charging, and app behavior on the cover and inner displays.
What this comparison can and cannot prove
The available manufacturer material supports a clear model and availability distinction, the published display, weight, battery, camera, processor, hinge, and launch-price figures listed above, and a practical recommendation based on support risk.
It does not establish an independent winner for battery life, camera quality, durability, gaming performance, display brightness, hinge longevity, repair cost, or software quality. It also does not establish a global MIX Fold 4 launch, a universal Xiaomi warranty, or a current live marketplace listing. Those facts can vary by country and date and must be checked against the offer you intend to buy.

Bottom line for your buying decision
Buy the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want the lower-risk ownership path: a current 2026 Samsung model, a documented launch beginning August 7, 2026, a 7.6-inch 4:3 inner screen, a 5.5-inch 10:16 cover screen, and a published local retail ecosystem. Buy the MIX Fold 4 only when Xiaomi’s hardware is the priority and you have verified every import detail—firmware, Google services, languages, network bands, taxes, warranty, repairs, and returns. The larger Xiaomi battery and four-camera description are not enough, by themselves, to prove longer endurance or better photos.
