Xiaomi has listed a new Mijia Metal Suitcase on its Youpin crowdfunding platform in China. IT之家 reported on October 14, 2026 that crowdfunding is scheduled to start on October 21 at a reported launch price of 1,699 yuan. The case uses a 6-series aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy frame, a 5-series aluminum-magnesium alloy shell and a rivet-free frame process. Xiaomi also claims unusually quiet, durable wheels, although those figures have not been independently verified.
What Xiaomi announced
The product is a premium metal suitcase from Xiaomi’s Mijia line. The October 14, 2026 listing is for the Chinese market and identifies silver and titanium finishes. The reported crowdfunding price is 1,699 yuan; it is not yet a confirmed international retail price, and crowdfunding terms can differ from the eventual selling price.
Youpin crowdfunding is scheduled for October 21, 2026. Until that campaign opens, buyers outside China should treat availability, shipping, warranty coverage and final pricing as unconfirmed.
How the rivet-free construction works
The new case combines a 6-series aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy frame with a 5-series aluminum-magnesium alloy shell. IT之家 says manufacturing involves about 150 processes. Its defining feature is the frame’s rivet-free assembly.

Xiaomi’s official Aluminum Frame Luggage explanation describes the design as a replacement for conventional external riveted corner protectors. Instead of visible rivets, zinc-alloy corner material is connected and fixed with attachments on the inside. That approach is intended to produce a cleaner exterior while retaining reinforced corners.

The official description also lists a 6000-series aluminum frame, a composite polycarbonate shell, dual TSA locks and proprietary high-precision bushing caster wheels for a related aluminum-frame luggage design. Xiaomi has not published enough information to confirm that every one of those listed specifications—particularly the composite-polycarbonate shell—applies unchanged to this newly reported Mijia metal model. The launch report specifically identifies the new model’s 5-series metal shell.

These are manufacturer-reported laboratory claims cited by IT之家, not results from an independent test report. Noise depends on floor material, load, speed and microphone position, so “below 43 decibels” should not be read as a guarantee of the same sound level on every airport floor or pavement.
Xiaomi’s related 20-inch Metal Carry-on Luggage page describes highly elastic TPE wheels, 360-degree movement, a handle with four adjustment positions and dual TSA-approved locks. The official aluminum-frame page says its wheels use a metal cross-axis fixed design and matched bushings on both sides to promote smooth steering. Those pages provide useful context for Xiaomi’s wheel and hardware approach, but they do not establish the final wheel specification of the 2026 Mijia Metal Suitcase where the launch report is silent.

What the design means for travelers

Moving corner attachments inside removes the visible rivet heads commonly found on framed metal cases. Mobility claims need real-world context
Omnidirectional wheels and shock absorption should help with lateral movement and uneven surfaces, while bushing-based wheel designs are intended to reduce play and friction. The available evidence does not establish long-term performance with a fully loaded case, on rough pavement or after exposure to water and grit.

The only reported purchase route is Xiaomi’s Youpin crowdfunding listing in China, with the campaign scheduled for October 21, 2026 and a reported price of 1,699 yuan. A local listing, model number, stock status and warranty terms should be checked before paying.
