Short answer: a supported Xiaomi phone can share selected photos and files with an iPhone, and Xiaomi documents notification sync, one-tap hotspot access, cloud-album sharing and touch-to-share on qualifying hardware. These connections run through Xiaomi’s Interconnectivity app and feature-specific requirements. They are not a complete Android-to-iPhone version of Apple Continuity.

Apple Continuity is a broader, operating-system-level system for Apple devices signed into the same Apple Account. It includes Handoff, Universal Clipboard, AirDrop, Continuity Camera, calls and text relay, AirPlay, hotspot sharing and, on supported combinations, iPhone Mirroring. Your best choice therefore depends on whether you need occasional transfers or continuous handoff and control.

The practical difference at a glance

Task Xiaomi HyperOS phone with iPhone Apple Continuity
Send photos or files Supported on compatible Xiaomi phones through Xiaomi Interconnectivity/Xiaomi Share; both directions are documented when the app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and local-network conditions are met. AirDrop provides native Apple-device transfers.
Share notifications Xiaomi lists notification synchronization, but availability depends on the phone, HyperOS release and companion-service/app versions. Continuity’s documented features are broader than notification mirroring and vary by Apple device and operating system.
Use a phone hotspot Xiaomi lists one-tap hotspot among its phone-to-iPhone functions. Apple offers Instant Hotspot and related hotspot sharing between supported Apple devices.
Touch-to-share Xiaomi lists this for an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 17 or later, with additional Xiaomi-side compatibility conditions. Apple has separate handoff, AirDrop and other proximity features rather than Xiaomi’s touch-to-share implementation.
Continue an app or copy content between devices Not listed as a complete Xiaomi-to-iPhone equivalent of Handoff or Universal Clipboard. Handoff and Universal Clipboard are core Continuity functions on supported Apple hardware and software.
Control or mirror the iPhone from a computer No equivalent is listed in Xiaomi’s phone-to-iPhone feature documentation. iPhone Mirroring is available on supported iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia 15 combinations; Apple says it is currently unavailable in the European Union.

Xiaomi describes these as individual cross-ecosystem abilities, not one universal synchronization layer. Apple likewise publishes requirements feature by feature, so neither system should be treated as an all-or-nothing promise based only on the phone brand.

What Xiaomi officially supports between HyperOS and iPhone

Xiaomi’s HyperConnect feature page lists several phone-to-iPhone abilities: touch-to-share, Xiaomi cloud album, cross-device sharing of photos or files, notification synchronization and one-tap hotspot. The page requires the iPhone to run iOS 14 or later and the Xiaomi Interconnectivity app to be version 2.0.0 or later. Bluetooth must be enabled, and the devices must be on the same network or hotspot. Exact support still depends on the Xiaomi model, software release and region. Cross-device photos and files

For ordinary file exchange, Xiaomi’s global support FAQ says a compatible Xiaomi device upgraded to HyperOS 2 can transfer photos and files in both directions with Apple devices. The iPhone needs the Xiaomi Interconnectivity app installed and running. Xiaomi also specifies Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled on both devices, a shared local area network and close physical proximity. The receiving device confirms the transfer. Xiaomi Share FAQ

This is an app-mediated transfer, not AirDrop appearing in the Xiaomi phone’s share sheet. The iPhone user must accept the incoming item, and a transfer that works once does not prove that every other Xiaomi feature is supported on the same handset.

Touch-to-share

Xiaomi’s feature page lists stricter requirements for touch-to-share: an iPhone 12 or later running iOS 17 or later. The Xiaomi phone must also meet Xiaomi’s current model and HyperOS conditions. The broader HyperOS documentation lists HyperOS 3 or later for some touch-to-share and notification scenarios, so check the current compatibility entry for the exact direction and phone model instead of applying the iPhone requirement to every Xiaomi function. Notifications

Notification synchronization is documented, but Xiaomi does not present one universal minimum version for every direction. Its HyperOS pages identify HyperOS 3 or later for some functions and specify companion-service or app versions for particular notification-sync paths. A missing notification option can therefore indicate an unsupported model, an older system component or a feature that is not offered in your region rather than a pairing failure.

Cloud album and one-tap hotspot

Xiaomi lists Xiaomi cloud album access and one-tap hotspot as cross-device abilities. The public feature description does not establish one identical setup path for every phone, account or region. Treat them as optional capabilities exposed by the Interconnectivity app when your model and software qualify; do not assume that enabling file sharing automatically enables either one.

Compatibility requirements you should check first

Component Documented threshold or condition Why it matters
Xiaomi phone HyperOS 2 or later is the threshold Xiaomi gives for Xiaomi Share file/photo transfers; some other abilities list HyperOS 3 or later. Different features use different system requirements.
iPhone for general cross-ecosystem functions iOS 14 or later on Xiaomi’s HyperConnect page. Older iPhones may not be eligible for the app-mediated functions.
iPhone for touch-to-share iPhone 12 or later with iOS 17 or later. This is stricter than the general iOS 14 requirement.
iPhone app Xiaomi Interconnectivity version 2.0.0 or later, installed and running. The app provides the bridge between the two ecosystems.
Wireless connections Bluetooth enabled; Wi-Fi enabled for Xiaomi Share; both devices on the same local network or hotspot and close together. Discovery and transfer depend on local connectivity.
Region and model Feature availability is device-, software- and region-dependent. A supported iPhone version alone cannot guarantee a feature on every Xiaomi handset.

Xiaomi’s global HyperOS page also references Apple devices on iOS/iPadOS 14 or later or macOS 12 or later for cross-ecosystem features, with Xiaomi Interconnectivity 2.0.0 or later. That does not make every Mac, iPad or iPhone function interchangeable; verify the individual entry for the device combination you own. Xiaomi HyperOS global page

How to prepare a Xiaomi phone and iPhone

  1. Record the exact software versions. On the Xiaomi phone, note the HyperOS release and model; on the iPhone, note the iOS version. If your phone is below HyperOS 2, update before testing Xiaomi Share. If you are testing touch-to-share, confirm the iPhone is an iPhone 12 or newer on iOS 17 or later.
  2. Install or update Xiaomi Interconnectivity. The iPhone must have version 2.0.0 or later, and the app must be running while you test the connection.
  3. Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both devices. Xiaomi’s Share FAQ calls for both radios enabled. Put both devices on the same local Wi-Fi network or the same hotspot and keep them nearby.
  4. Allow the permissions the app requests. Without access to nearby devices, photos or notifications where applicable, the relevant option may not appear or may not complete setup.
  5. Use the feature’s own entry in the Interconnectivity app. File transfer, notification synchronization, hotspot and touch-to-share are separate abilities; seeing one does not confirm the others.
  6. Check the model-specific compatibility notice. Xiaomi warns that availability differs by device and feature. If an option is absent after updating, consult the current HyperConnect and HyperOS compatibility pages before resetting either device.

How to transfer photos and files with Xiaomi Share

  1. Connect the Xiaomi phone and iPhone to the same local area network, or use the same hotspot. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and place the devices close together.
  2. Open Xiaomi Interconnectivity on the iPhone and leave it running. On the Xiaomi phone, open the Xiaomi Share or cross-device sharing function exposed by your HyperOS build.
  3. Select the photos or files to send and choose the detected Apple device. The wording and location of the share command can vary by HyperOS version, so use the entry shown by your phone rather than a generic Android tutorial.
  4. Watch the iPhone for the incoming request. The recipient must confirm receipt before the transfer proceeds.
  5. After completion, open the destination location on the iPhone and verify the files. For a two-way test, send a small file back from the iPhone and confirm that the Xiaomi phone is visible and accepting requests.

The official FAQ establishes the transfer conditions but does not promise a particular speed, file-size limit or reliability percentage. A successful small photo transfer should not be used to infer that large videos, every file type or every HyperOS feature will behave identically.

How Xiaomi’s other cross-device functions differ

Notification synchronization

Start the notification-sync option in Xiaomi Interconnectivity only after confirming the phone and companion-service versions listed for your direction. Keep the app active, grant notification access when requested and test with a new notification rather than an old one. If the option is missing, compare your HyperOS release with Xiaomi’s current HyperOS 3 and feature-page requirements; notification sync is not guaranteed merely because file sharing works.

One-tap hotspot

When the option is available, the Xiaomi phone acts as the connection source and the iPhone is the client. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and proximity conditions still matter for discovery. The public Xiaomi description identifies the ability but does not give one universal menu path or a single model list, so the control may be presented differently by region and software version.

Xiaomi cloud album

Xiaomi lists cloud-album access as a phone-to-iPhone ability. This is distinct from sending a local file: it depends on the supported cloud service, account state and feature availability for your model and region. Use the cloud-album entry shown in Interconnectivity and verify that the intended photos are available before deleting local copies.

What Apple Continuity includes

Apple describes Continuity as built into Apple operating systems and many everyday apps. Apple’s stated starting point is signing in to the same Apple Account on each device; no additional Continuity app is required. Individual features can also require specific hardware, operating-system versions, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or regional availability. Apple’s Continuity guide

Continuity feature What it does Important qualification
AirDrop Sends photos, documents and other content between supported Apple devices. It is an Apple-native feature; a Xiaomi phone is not an AirDrop peer.
Handoff Lets you continue supported activities between Apple devices. Requirements vary by device and operating-system release.
Universal Clipboard Copies content on one Apple device and pastes it on another. Requires the supported Apple setup and same Apple Account.
Continuity Camera Uses an iPhone as a camera or microphone for a Mac in supported scenarios. Specific iPhone, Mac and OS requirements apply.
Calls and text relay Relays supported phone calls and messages to other Apple devices. Carrier, account and device requirements can apply.
AirPlay and hotspot sharing Streams content or shares an internet connection across Apple devices. Availability depends on the participating hardware and software.
iPhone Mirroring Displays and controls an iPhone from a supported Mac. Apple lists iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia 15 or later on supported devices; it is currently unavailable in the European Union.
Sidecar Uses an iPad as an additional display or input surface for a Mac. This is an Apple-device feature, not a Xiaomi phone function.

Apple publishes a separate requirements article because the minimums differ among Handoff, Continuity Camera, Sidecar, calls, text forwarding and iPhone Mirroring. Check the feature you intend to use rather than assuming that two Apple products support every Continuity capability. Apple Continuity requirements

Which system fits the task?

If your priority is… Better fit Reason
Occasionally moving photos or documents between a Xiaomi phone and iPhone Xiaomi Interconnectivity/Xiaomi Share It is specifically documented for bidirectional transfers when the app and local wireless conditions are met.
Using one clipboard across a phone, tablet and computer Apple Continuity, provided all devices are supported Apple products Universal Clipboard is part of Apple’s native feature set; Xiaomi’s phone-to-iPhone list does not document an equivalent.
Continuing an app from iPhone to Mac or iPad Apple Continuity Handoff is designed for this workflow and has Apple-published requirements.
Mirroring and controlling an iPhone from a Mac Apple Continuity iPhone Mirroring is the relevant Apple feature; Xiaomi’s cross-ecosystem list does not provide this function.
Receiving selected phone notifications on an iPhone Xiaomi’s notification-sync feature, if your exact model and versions qualify The function exists in Xiaomi documentation but has more variable requirements than ordinary file sharing.
One-tap hotspot access from a Xiaomi phone to an iPhone Xiaomi’s documented hotspot ability, if exposed on your devices It targets this cross-ecosystem pairing, whereas Apple’s Instant Hotspot assumes Apple-device participation.

A decision checklist before you buy or update

  1. Define the handoff you actually need. If the requirement is “send a photo,” test Xiaomi Share. If it is “copy on my phone and paste on my computer,” you are asking for Universal Clipboard, not ordinary file transfer.
  2. List every participating device. Write down the Xiaomi model, HyperOS version, iPhone model, iOS version and any Mac or iPad model. A feature can fail because of one unsupported endpoint.
  3. Separate native from app-mediated behavior. Xiaomi’s bridge requires an iPhone app and local wireless conditions. Apple Continuity is built into Apple systems but still has feature-level requirements.
  4. Check regional notes. Apple specifically says iPhone Mirroring is unavailable in the European Union. Xiaomi also marks availability as device and region dependent.
  5. Test the smallest useful workflow. Send one photo, receive one notification or invoke the hotspot before migrating a large library or relying on the connection for work.

Troubleshooting common failures

The iPhone does not appear

  • Confirm Xiaomi Interconnectivity 2.0.0 or later is installed and open on the iPhone.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both devices, connect them to the same local network or hotspot and move them close together.
  • Check that the Xiaomi phone meets the HyperOS threshold for the specific function; HyperOS 2 is the documented Xiaomi Share baseline, while some other abilities require HyperOS 3 or later.
  • Restart discovery on both devices after updating the app or operating system.

The transfer request appears but fails

  • Keep the app in the foreground long enough for the recipient prompt to appear.
  • Accept the request on the iPhone; Xiaomi’s FAQ says the recipient confirms receipt.
  • Retry with a single small photo to distinguish a discovery problem from a file-type or size problem. Xiaomi’s public FAQ does not state a universal speed or size limit.
  • Verify that both devices remain on the same network and nearby throughout the transfer.

File sharing works but notifications or touch-to-share do not

  • Do not treat Xiaomi Share compatibility as proof that every Interconnectivity ability is enabled.
  • Check the stricter iPhone 12/iOS 17 requirement for touch-to-share.
  • For notification synchronization, check the HyperOS 3 and companion-service/app requirements for the exact direction shown in Xiaomi’s current documentation.
  • Confirm notification access permissions and look for regional or model restrictions.

Apple Continuity is missing on an Apple device

  • Sign in to the same Apple Account on each participating Apple device.
  • Compare the exact feature with Apple’s requirements article; Handoff, Continuity Camera, Sidecar, calls, text forwarding and iPhone Mirroring do not share one universal minimum.
  • For iPhone Mirroring, verify iOS 18, macOS Sequoia 15, supported hardware and regional availability. Apple currently excludes the European Union.

Limits and privacy considerations

Neither vendor publishes a universal model list that guarantees every listed function on every phone. Xiaomi’s pages repeatedly qualify support by model, HyperOS release, app or companion-service version and region. Apple’s requirements are likewise feature-specific. Keep those qualifications next to the feature you are evaluating instead of relying on the phrase “HyperOS sync” or “Continuity” as a blanket compatibility label.

Xiaomi’s cross-ecosystem functions require installing an app on the iPhone and, for some features, granting access to local devices, photos or notifications. Review those permissions and leave the app running only when you need the relevant service. Apple Continuity reduces app setup because it is integrated into Apple operating systems, but it still depends on the same Apple Account and the required device settings.

There is no official speed, reliability or adoption comparison in the cited Xiaomi and Apple documentation. Choose on supported tasks and requirements, not on an assumed performance advantage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line for a Xiaomi-and-iPhone household

Buy or keep the Xiaomi phone if your cross-platform need is practical exchange: selected photos and files, and possibly notifications, hotspot access, cloud albums or touch-to-share after you verify the exact requirements. Choose an all-Apple setup when your priority is deep continuity—Handoff, Universal Clipboard, AirDrop, camera continuity, calls and texts across devices, or iPhone Mirroring. The two systems can coexist, but Xiaomi’s app-mediated links do not turn a Xiaomi phone into a full Apple Continuity device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Xiaomi phone use AirDrop with an iPhone?

No AirDrop compatibility is documented for Xiaomi phones. Xiaomi provides its own Interconnectivity/Xiaomi Share workflow for supported photo and file transfers, with the app and local-network requirements described above.

Does Xiaomi-to-iPhone sync include iMessage or SMS history?

The cited Xiaomi feature documentation lists files, photos, notifications, hotspot, cloud album and touch-to-share functions; it does not document iMessage or SMS-history synchronization.

Do the Xiaomi phone and iPhone need internet access?

Xiaomi specifies Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, close proximity and a shared local network or hotspot for Xiaomi Share. Its public instructions do not state a universal internet requirement, so local-network conditions should be treated as the documented baseline.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is a feature listed online but absent from my Xiaomi phone?

Xiaomi qualifies availability by model, HyperOS release, companion-service or app version and region. Compare your exact devices with the current HyperConnect and HyperOS compatibility pages; support for one function does not guarantee support for another.
