For now, yes: Xiaomi carried a rear display from the Xiaomi 17 Pro series into the Xiaomi 18 Pro generation. That shows the feature survived one product cycle and is being expanded, but it does not guarantee a rear screen on every future Xiaomi flagship.
What is Xiaomi’s Dynamic Back Display?
On the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, the Dynamic Back Display is a functional secondary screen on the back of the phone, not just decoration around the cameras. Xiaomi described it as supporting AI wallpapers, real-time notifications, sticky notes, and selfie preview using the main rear cameras. The preview lets a person frame a selfie while using those rear cameras. Xiaomi’s third-quarter 2025 results also highlighted selfies with the main cameras, AI wallpapers, and dynamic information notifications; Xiaomi’s investor materials list the broader feature set.
Did Xiaomi keep the rear screen on the Xiaomi 18 Pro?
Yes. In September 2026, Xiaomi Community described the Xiaomi 18 Pro series as continuing the rear-screen design, and Xiaomi later characterized the Xiaomi 18 Pro as carrying forward its Magic Screen concept. Xiaomi’s mainland China store listing for the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max specifies a 2.9-inch rear screen. Together, these sources show continuity into the next Pro generation—not a commitment beyond it. Xiaomi Community’s announcement, Xiaomi’s follow-up description, and the mainland China product listing are Xiaomi sources.

The 18 Pro functions are Xiaomi’s stated features, not independent findings about how useful, reliable, or frequently used they are. Xiaomi Community reported that application cards on the preceding generation were used more than 4 million times daily and wallpapers were added more than 3.5 million times daily. Those are Xiaomi-reported figures, not independently audited measurements. Xiaomi Community’s report does not establish battery impact, durability, or long-term software support.
What the sales figures do—and do not—show
Xiaomi reported that more than 80% of Xiaomi 17 series sales during the first month came from the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max. It also reported nearly 30% year-over-year growth in Xiaomi 17 series sales compared with the Xiaomi 15 series during that first-month period, which Xiaomi defined as September 25, 2025, at 19:00 through October 26, 2025, at 23:59:59. These company figures describe product mix and series sales; they do not show that the rear display caused the Pro models’ share or the series’ growth. What can buyers conclude about future Xiaomi phones?
The defensible conclusion is that the Dynamic Back Display was more than a one-generation experiment: Xiaomi retained a rear screen for the Xiaomi 18 Pro generation and described additional interactive uses. There is not enough evidence to say it is now a permanent feature of Xiaomi’s flagship lineup. The available sources do not establish whether later generations will keep it, whether the mini-tools will remain supported, or how the screen performs over time.
Availability also matters. The cited Xiaomi 17 launch coverage concerns China, and the cited Xiaomi 18 Pro Max listing is from Xiaomi’s mainland China store. Before making a purchase decision in another country, confirm that the exact Pro model is sold there and check its warranty, software ROM, and local sales support. Xiaomi’s mainland store listing is not evidence of availability in every market.
