The Xiaomi 18 Fold has ambitious hardware on paper, including a 7.58-inch inner display, a triple rear-camera system and a 6,000mAh battery. But that does not establish that it is better than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the available evidence does not support a direct hardware comparison with an Apple foldable. For buyers, the biggest question may be whether the China-market phone’s software and availability fit their needs.
Is the Xiaomi 18 Fold better than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8?
There is no evidence here for a definitive winner. Xiaomi’s manufacturer-reported specifications are compelling, but the available comparison with Samsung is limited to a brief, subjective hands-on account—not a controlled test of displays, cameras, speed, battery life or durability.
A syndicated hands-on report at Gizmodo.cz says its author spent a short time comparing the Xiaomi with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. In that demonstration, the author found Samsung’s inner display looked brighter, while the Xiaomi rested flat on a desk without wobbling. Those observations may help explain how the phones felt in that particular moment; they do not establish that one screen is generally brighter or that one hinge is more stable or durable.
What the published figures do—and do not—show
| Comparison point | Xiaomi 18 Fold | What is established about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 |
|---|---|---|
| Displays | Xiaomi Community launch-news material reports a 5.38-inch outer display and a 7.58-inch inner display. | Gizmodo.cz’s brief hands-on report says Samsung’s inner display looked brighter in that comparison. Screen sizes and resolutions are not stated in the cited material. |
| Weight and protection | Android Central reports 219g and IP58/IP59 ratings; the Xiaomi shop listing reviewed did not establish those figures. | Weight and protection ratings are not stated in the cited material. |
| Camera hardware | Xiaomi Community reports a Leica 200MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. | Camera specifications and comparative results are not stated in the cited material. |
| Battery and charging | Xiaomi Community reports a 6,000mAh battery and 67W wired charging. | Battery capacity and charging figures are not stated in the cited material. |
| Price and availability | Xiaomi’s China shop lists a starting price of ¥10,999. The listing establishes a China-market price, not overseas stock or warranty. | Price and local availability are not stated in the cited material. |
The table separates Xiaomi’s published specifications from comparative evidence. A larger battery capacity or higher camera megapixel count does not by itself prove longer real-world battery life or better photos. No comparative benchmark or extended-use evidence is established here.

How does the Xiaomi 18 Fold compare with Apple’s foldable?
The sources considered here do not establish an Apple foldable model, its specifications or its availability to compare with the Xiaomi 18 Fold. That means there is no grounded basis for saying the Xiaomi beats—or trails—an Apple device on screen, cameras, battery, software or price. Treat claims of a clear head-to-head winner cautiously unless they identify the Apple model and provide comparable evidence.
Can you use Google apps on the Xiaomi 18 Fold?
Android Central reports that the phone is China-limited and that its Chinese software build does not include Google Play or Google services out of the box. That matters if you rely on Google apps, Google account integration or services that expect Google components to be present.

Do not assume that installing an app store or sideloading an app will recreate the expected experience. The cited reporting also raises concerns about notifications and memory management, but it does not establish how every app behaves or whether later software changes have addressed those issues. Confirm the exact software build and the availability of the apps and services you need before buying.

Can you buy the Xiaomi 18 Fold outside China?
Xiaomi’s official China shop lists the phone at ¥10,999, and Xiaomi Community launch-news material said sales were to begin on September 10, 2026. These are China-market listing and launch details. Android Central reports a China-only limitation, so the information here does not establish official retail availability elsewhere.

A China shop listing is not proof of Amazon stock, a local seller, shipping to your country or local warranty coverage. If considering an import, check the specific seller and return terms, whether the phone supports the network bands used by your carrier, whether its software and services suit your region, and where repairs would be handled. None of those details can be inferred from the listed China price.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider the Xiaomi 18 Fold?
- It may be worth investigating if you want a large inner screen, dedicated telephoto hardware and substantial stated battery capacity, and are comfortable checking the China-market software and purchase details yourself.
- It is a riskier fit if Google services, dependable app notifications, local warranty support or straightforward repairs are essential. Those needs depend on the precise software build and the seller’s support arrangements.
- Wait for stronger evidence if your decision depends on camera quality, battery endurance, screen performance or long-term hinge reliability. The cited specifications and short demonstration do not answer those questions.
Xiaomi Community’s launch-news material attributes this statement to Lei Jun: “This is our latest generation foldable, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a fully equipped flagship model.” It is a quotation reproduced in that community post, not an independently verified recording or transcript.
