For most customers with a rented Xfinity Gateway, change the home WiFi password in the Xfinity app: open WiFi, select WiFi details, choose Edit WiFi settings, enter the new password, and save. Then reconnect devices with the new credentials. The browser-based Gateway Admin Tool is an option only for supported rented XB2 and XB3 Gateways.
Change your Xfinity WiFi password in the app
The Xfinity app is the main route for changing WiFi credentials on rented Xfinity Gateways. Xfinity lists Primary, Manager, and Member Xfinity IDs as eligible to access the WiFi tab. If you cannot see it, check that you are signed in with one of those account roles.
- Sign in to the Xfinity app with an eligible Xfinity ID.
- Tap WiFi, then WiFi details.
- Choose Edit WiFi settings.
- Enter the new WiFi password and save.
- Reconnect wireless devices using the new password.
After a network name or password change, reconnecting devices can take a few minutes. The exact WiFi bands available depend on your Gateway model. Xfinity recommends using the same network name and password for all available bands.

The Admin Tool is a browser interface for changing credentials on rented XB2 and XB3 Gateways. It is not the right route for every Xfinity setup: Xfinity says XB6 or newer Gateways, WiFi Extenders, and WiFi Intelligence setups require the app for these changes.

- Connect to your home network and open 10.0.0.1 in a browser.
- If you have not changed the Admin Tool login, enter username
adminand the password printed on the Gateway sticker. - Open Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi to find the WiFi settings.
- Change the network password and save the settings, then reconnect devices with the new password.
The Admin Tool login password is separate from the WiFi password that devices use to join your network. If the interface does not show WiFi controls, use the app route and verify your Gateway generation rather than assuming the WiFi password is the Admin Tool password.
Find the current WiFi password without changing it
If the Gateway still uses its factory-default credentials, check the label on its side or bottom. You can also view the WiFi name and password on the X1 TV Box or in the Xfinity app’s WiFi Details screen. A Gateway label will not show a password that was changed later; for that, use an account-authorized app or a supported management option.

Should you factory-reset the Gateway?
No—not just to change a WiFi password. Xfinity says a factory reset erases custom settings, including the WiFi name and password, and restores the original settings. Try the app or, if your rented Gateway is a supported XB2 or XB3, the Admin Tool first.
Recommended Free Tools
On supported XB2 or XB3 equipment, Xfinity documents using the recessed reset button with a pen or unfolded paperclip. A reset can disrupt other custom configuration, so reserve it for cases where other options have failed.

- Compatible with major cable internet providers including Xfinity and Cox. NOT compatible with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, CenturyLink, DSL providers, DirecTV, DISH and any bundled voice service. Best for cable provider plans up to 800Mbps.
