Microsoft has announced the XBOX Nano Controller, a compact rechargeable gamepad aimed at portable play, smaller hands and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Microsoft Store lists it at $49.99 in the United States, with a release time of November 4, 2026, at 5:00 a.m. and preorders available.
What the XBOX Nano Controller is
Xbox describes the Nano as “Our smallest controller, for big adventures.” It is an entry-level gamepad designed to fit in a pocket and to be easier for smaller hands to use. Xbox also positions it for introducing someone to gaming, sharing with family members, gifting and solo play.
The controller has an internal rechargeable battery rather than relying on disposable cells. Microsoft says charging requires a USB-C cable, which is sold separately. The announcement does not state the battery’s capacity or expected runtime.

How it connects to Xbox, phones and TVs
Xbox consoles
On Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Microsoft lists Xbox Wireless as the connection method. The product page does not publish a latency measurement for the Nano.
Windows PCs and mobile devices
Bluetooth is listed for compatible Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, tablets, iOS devices and Android devices. Compatibility can depend on the operating system, game and device model, so a Bluetooth-capable phone is not by itself a guarantee that every title will recognize the controller.

Compatible Smart TVs
Microsoft also lists Bluetooth support for compatible Smart TVs. The TV must support the required Bluetooth controller profile and an Xbox-compatible app or service; the Nano does not turn an unsupported television into a cloud-gaming device.
What it means for Xbox Cloud Gaming
The Nano is suited to Xbox Cloud Gaming because it can connect to supported phones, tablets, PCs and Smart TVs without requiring a console. Microsoft’s store note says Cloud Gaming requires Game Pass, a supported device and an internet connection. The available catalog and supported devices vary by region and over time.

Cloud Gaming streams game video from Microsoft’s servers while sending controller input back over the network. The official Nano materials do not claim a direct Wi-Fi connection, built-in cloud hardware or a measured latency advantage. Your experience will therefore depend on the device, Bluetooth connection, network quality and distance to the service—not on a published performance figure for this controller.
Who should consider it
- Players with smaller hands: Xbox explicitly markets the design for smaller hands, although Microsoft has not published dimensions or an independent comfort assessment.
- Families and shared devices: Its compact format may make it convenient to keep with a tablet, phone or television used by multiple people.
- Cloud-gaming users: Bluetooth support covers the mobile and TV platforms Microsoft lists, provided the device and Game Pass plan are supported.
- Travelers: Xbox presents the controller as pocket-friendly, but it has not published a weight or exact measurements.
How it compares with other controller types
The useful distinction is not a claimed performance advantage; it is the combination of size, connection options and battery setup. Microsoft has not published independent testing for comfort, runtime, weight or latency.

What is still unknown
- Microsoft has not published official dimensions or weight.
- Battery-runtime hours and charging time are not stated.
- No latency benchmark or independent comfort test is included in the announcement.
- The announcement does not specify whether a carrying case, replacement battery service or other accessories will be offered.
- Availability and pricing outside the US Microsoft Store may differ.
What you need before using it
- Choose a compatible target: Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One through Xbox Wireless, or a supported Windows, Android, iOS or Smart TV device through Bluetooth.
- Obtain a USB-C charging cable, since Microsoft says the cable is required and sold separately.
- For Xbox Cloud Gaming, confirm that your region, device and Game Pass subscription support the service.
- Pair the controller with the device using its Bluetooth settings when Bluetooth is the required connection, then launch a game that supports controller input.
- If streaming feels delayed, check the network and device path first. The published product information provides no Nano-specific latency fix or benchmark.
Bottom line for buyers
The XBOX Nano Controller is Xbox’s compact, rechargeable option for people who want a smaller gamepad for consoles, PCs, mobile devices or compatible TVs. At the Microsoft Store’s listed US price of $49.99, its main trade-offs are the separately sold USB-C cable and the limited published specifications. It may be a practical Cloud Gaming companion, but Microsoft has not provided the dimensions, runtime, weight or latency data needed to predict comfort or streaming performance before independent testing.
