Free Play Days is a limited-time chance to try selected games; Game Pass is subscription access to a changing game catalog. Neither gives you permanent ownership. To keep playing when the applicable access ends, you’ll need to check whether you can buy the game separately.
What is the difference between Free Play Days and Game Pass?

Xbox describes Free Play Days as a way for eligible members to “try critically acclaimed games for free for a limited time.” The event page says to check weekly for new titles. The offer lineup can change, so confirm the current listing and its terms on Xbox’s Free Play Days page.
What can you play?
Free Play Days offers
You can try only the games included in the active offer, and only while the offer is available to you. Xbox’s live page currently lists Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and displays a separate purchase price. That listing is an example, not a guarantee that the same game, price, edition, or offer will still be available later.

Game Pass offers a changing catalog, but no single list of games applies to every subscriber. Xbox’s US plan page presents Ultimate, Premium, Essential, and PC Game Pass with different libraries and features. Xbox notes that titles, counts, features, and availability vary over time and by region, plan, and platform. Check the current Game Pass plans and catalog details for your location and device rather than assuming a game is included with every plan.

Can you keep playing after access ends?
Not through the expired Free Play Days offer or an inactive Game Pass subscription. If you want to continue outside the relevant access window, check whether the game is available for a separate purchase. For a Game Pass title, you may also lose subscription access if it leaves the catalog, even while your subscription remains active.
A purchase is separate from either kind of access. Confirm the exact game, edition, platform, market, and price before buying; the Free Play Days listing alone does not establish retailer stock or availability in another format.

Which option should you use?
- Choose Free Play Days if an eligible offer includes a game you want to try for a limited time.
- Choose Game Pass if you want subscription access to the catalog available to your plan, understanding that the subscription and catalog determine how long access lasts.
- Buy the game separately if you want to play beyond those access periods and a purchase is available for your platform and region.
What these access options don’t establish
The Xbox pages cited here do not establish whether saves remain usable after access ends, whether DLC is included, or whether a purchase grants an entitlement on another platform. Check the terms for the specific game and platform before relying on any of those details.
