Two unofficial homebrew projects are being reported for modified PlayStation 5 consoles: Overdrive, a game library and store, and PSBox, a client for Xbox Cloud Gaming. This is not an official Game Pass launch on retail PS5s. The reported 1080p, 60-frames-per-second streaming and DualSense support have not been independently verified, and the news report cautions that the apps’ real capabilities and reliability remain uncertain.
What appeared on modified PS5s
An October 13, 2026 report by Dmitry Krivov at iXBT Games, credited to Insider Gaming, describes two separate projects. Overdrive is an alternative game library and store for games and add-ons; PSBox is a client intended to access Xbox Cloud Gaming. They serve different purposes: Overdrive concerns a catalog and game management, while PSBox streams games from a cloud service.
The report says Overdrive’s catalog was seen listing Battlefield 6, 007: First Light, Forza Horizon 5, and Black Myth: Wukong. Those are examples reported by the outlet, not proof that the games are legitimate downloads, available to every user, or verified to work. The report identifies RinoTheBouncer’s X account as the image source.

The project repository describes PSBox, also referred to as PSXBOX in the news report, as an unofficial native Xbox Cloud Gaming client for jailbroken PS5 consoles. Its maintainers say it can browse the cloud catalog and stream at 1080p and 60 frames per second, with DualSense support and interface features. iXBT Games also reports those performance and controller details, while explicitly warning that actual capabilities and reliability have not been verified. There is no independent test protocol or broad compatibility information in the report.

That distinction matters: 1080p60 is a developer-described capability, not an independently established performance result. The available information also does not establish which PS5 firmware versions or network conditions work, or whether the experience is consistent across the advertised catalog.
What you need to use the cloud client
According to the PSBox project documentation, the app requires a homebrew-enabled PS5 capable of running directory-style apps. Its setup description involves copying the app folder into the PS5 homebrew directory and registering it with a loader. It is not a normal app that a user can install on an unmodified retail console through PlayStation’s standard software channels.

The maintainers say a Microsoft account and Game Pass Ultimate are required for most of the Xbox cloud catalog. That is a project-stated requirement, not confirmation that every game or the service itself will be accessible through this client in a particular region or at a particular time.

Why this is not an official Game Pass feature
The PSBox maintainers state: “This is an unofficial project, not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Microsoft or Sony.” The project depends on services that Microsoft could change or block, according to the repository’s README. That means neither continued access nor future compatibility should be assumed. The disclaimer comes from the project maintainers; it is not a statement from either platform company.
Overdrive’s release history shows that it is changing software, but a recent release does not amount to Sony approval or establish what its catalog contains in practice. No independent test results, supported firmware matrix, or comments from Sony or Microsoft about these specific projects are established in the available reporting.
