X/Twitter Advanced Search is a signed-in search feature on x.com for narrowing posts by words, accounts, places, and dates. Use its form for a one-off lookup; use typed search operators when you need a filter the form does not expose. Neither method guarantees that every matching post will appear, because X applies visibility and search-quality filtering.
How to open Advanced Search on X
- Sign in to x.com and run a search.
- On the results page, look beneath Search filters near the upper right for Advanced Search. Depending on the interface, it may instead be under More options.
- Enter the criteria you want and click Search. You can combine fields to narrow results.
X’s official instructions describe Advanced Search as available on x.com when logged in. Interface labels may change, so the menu wording you see can differ.
What you can filter in the form
- Words: all listed words, an exact phrase, any listed word, excluded words, a hashtag, or a language.
- People: posts from an account, replies to an account, or posts mentioning an account.
- Places: posts geotagged to a selected place.
- Dates: posts before, after, or within a chosen date range.
When typed search operators are useful
X’s X Pro operator reference documents typed query syntax that can be entered in search. These are query operators, not necessarily labels or controls in the Advanced Search form.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Goal | Example query | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Find an exact phrase | "exact phrase" |
Searches for the phrase. |
| Find posts from an account | from:NASA |
Targets posts from that account. |
| Find replies to an account | to:NASA |
Targets replies to that account. |
| Limit by date | since:2024-01-01 until:2024-02-01 |
X documents since: as on or after the specified date and until: as on or before it. |
| Show media or replies | filter:media or filter:replies |
Filters for posts with media or replies. |
| Set an engagement minimum | min_faves:10, min_reposts:20, or min_replies:100 |
Sets a minimum for the specified engagement measure. |
| Exclude a term or include alternatives | -word or word1 OR word2 |
Excludes a term or searches for either alternative. |
These operators and their meanings are described in X’s X Pro search-filter documentation. For a single post lookup, start with the form; type operators when you want to compose a query directly or use a documented filter such as an engagement threshold.

Choose the right results view
X’s search categories include Top, Latest, People, Media, and Lists. Top emphasizes relevance and popularity. Latest displays matching posts in reverse chronological order, subject to X’s global visibility filter. If you are looking for a particular recent post, Latest can make the time order easier to scan; it still may not show every match.
Why a matching post may not appear
Advanced Search narrows results; it does not provide a complete archive of everything that matches your criteria. X says it filters results to maintain quality and may automatically remove material that could jeopardize search quality or create a poor search experience. Its search guidance also describes visibility limitations.

If you cannot find a post, consider whether the account is protected: only approved followers can see protected posts. Sensitive-content settings may also hide material, and a post or account may not meet X’s search visibility or quality expectations. Tight filters can also exclude a result, so remove criteria one at a time to see whether the search broadens.

X Pro is a separate workflow for ongoing monitoring rather than a requirement for a single search. Its persistent columns and alerts can be useful when you repeatedly track a topic. X documents column filters for keywords, media, date and time, language, reposts, accounts, lists, location, and engagement in its X Pro search-filter guide. Current pricing and access terms are not established by that feature description.
