Apple’s current macOS 27 instructions do not document a setting to hide or disable the floating Write with Siri button. The guide explains how to use the control when it appears, but gives no switch or menu path for suppressing it. Avoid treating global Siri or Apple Intelligence settings as a verified fix for this specific button.
What the Write with Siri button does
Apple describes Siri AI as a writing feature that can draft text, summarize information, and give feedback on writing. On Mac, Apple’s instructions associate its icon with selected text: select text, move the pointer over the Siri AI icon when it appears, then choose an option or describe what you want. Apple’s Mac User Guide describes the feature and this interaction.
The guide explains how to use the icon, but does not document a separate preference for preventing it from appearing. As a result, there is no Apple-documented hide or disable procedure to follow based on these instructions.

Apple’s reviewed macOS 27 guide does not identify a toggle or menu path for disabling the Write with Siri floating control. It also does not establish that disabling Siri globally, turning off Apple Intelligence, changing a keyboard shortcut, or altering text selection removes this particular control. Those approaches should not be presented as confirmed fixes.

If the icon is interfering with your work, check the current macOS Help or contact Apple Support for guidance specific to your Mac and software version. Until Apple documents a setting for this control, any proposed path would be guesswork.
Why the button may not appear for everyone
The feature’s availability depends on device, language, and region eligibility. Apple labels Siri AI beta in its macOS 27 guide and says it requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language; the guide notes initial English availability. Apple’s macOS feature-availability page lists Write with Siri under Siri AI and cautions that some features are unavailable in certain regions or languages.

Therefore, the icon’s presence or absence is not necessarily evidence of a setting that has been changed. Your Mac’s OS version, device eligibility, language, and region can affect whether the feature is available.
How to use the control when it appears
- Select the text you want help with.
- When the Siri AI icon appears, move the pointer over it.
- Choose an available option or describe the writing request.
Apple says Siri AI can create a draft from scratch, summarize information, and provide feedback on writing. The Mac guide’s instructions are for using the feature, not disabling its floating icon. See Get started with Apple Intelligence on your Mac for Apple’s current instructions.
