Neither Wrike nor monday.com is better for every team. Wrike is the stronger candidate when work depends on structured project intake, cross-project planning, dependencies, or creative approvals. monday.com is a strong candidate when teams want visual, configurable boards and workflows. The practical winner is the product that handles your real work at a plan level and total cost your team can support.

Wrike vs. monday.com at a glance

Decision area Wrike monday.com What to check
Portfolio and dependency planning Wrike highlights portfolio Gantt charts, dependency mapping, milestones, and critical-path analysis in its vendor-authored comparison. Availability depends on the plan. Offers Gantt and timeline views within a board-centered, configurable approach, according to monday.com’s product materials. Test whether the required tier can represent dependencies and coordinate the number of interdependent projects you manage.
Intake and approvals Wrike emphasizes request forms that can launch projects and native proofing and approval workflows for creative work. Offers forms and collaboration features; confirm that the review process supports your asset, version, and approval requirements. Run a real request-to-approval workflow, including outside reviewers if needed.
Configuration and adoption More structured workflow framing; implementation and onboarding effort depend on how the team configures it. Visual boards and flexible workflows can suit teams that want to adapt how work is displayed and tracked. Have typical users complete the same task in both products, then assess whether teams can maintain consistent fields and reporting.
Entry pricing The Digital Project Manager reported a starting figure of $10 per user per month with annual billing on January 3, 2026. The Digital Project Manager reported a starting figure of $9 per user per month with annual billing on January 3, 2026. These are dated starting figures, not quotes for a particular country, team size, or required feature set.
Automation and AI Wrike says AI Elite actions are included from Business upward; additional actions can be purchased as an add-on. The pricing page lists features and AI credits by tier; Standard lists 250 automation actions per month in the pricing display accessed October 7, 2026. Confirm current action or credit limits, overage or add-on costs, and whether the needed cross-tool workflow is supported.
Security and compliance Wrike publishes security, compliance, and data-residency information. monday.com publishes security and compliance information. Check current certification scope, contract terms, data residency, retention, and controls against your requirements.

Capability descriptions above reflect vendor materials and should not be treated as independent proof that one product is superior. Plan packaging and feature limits can change.

When Wrike is the better fit

Consider Wrike if the team coordinates work across projects and needs a more formal structure for planning, intake, or review. Its vendor comparison emphasizes portfolio-level Gantt planning, critical paths, request forms that can initiate projects, cross-tagging tasks across spaces, and proofing and approvals for creative assets.

Those features matter most when they match an actual process. For example, a team might use a structured request form to collect the information needed to start a project, then track dependencies across the resulting work and route creative materials for review. Verify that the required capabilities are available on the tier being quoted, and test the process with the people who will submit, manage, and approve work.

When monday.com is the better fit

Consider monday.com if the team values configurable boards, visual ways to see work, templates, and adaptable workflows. monday.com’s own comparison presents these as core strengths. That flexibility can help teams shape boards around different processes, but it also makes shared conventions important: agree on field names, status meanings, ownership, and reporting before many teams build their own versions.

The free plan is limited. The pricing page accessed October 7, 2026, displayed a maximum of two seats and three boards for Free, alongside 200+ templates. Treat those details as a snapshot of the page rather than a permanent entitlement; confirm the current terms in your region.

What the prices do—and do not—tell you

The Digital Project Manager’s comparison, updated January 3, 2026, lists annual-billing starting prices of $10 per user per month for Wrike and $9 per user per month for monday.com. These are entry points, not a like-for-like quote for a team needing the same capabilities. Seat count, selected tier, and premium features affect the total.

There is an additional regional caveat for monday.com: when its official pricing page was accessed on October 7, 2026, it displayed euro pricing for a selected ten-seat annual configuration in the locale served. That display showed Basic at €9 per seat per month and Standard at €12 per seat per month. It also showed changing offers and AI-credit details, so those euro amounts should not be treated as universal prices or converted into a general U.S. price claim.

Compare the plans and limits your workflow will actually use

Automation and AI

Plan limits can affect a workflow even when the headline feature appears to be included. The monday.com pricing display accessed October 7, 2026, listed 250 automation actions per month on Standard. Wrike says AI Elite actions are included starting with Business, with additional actions available as an add-on. Check how each vendor currently defines and counts actions or credits, and whether the limit covers your expected volume.

How to choose with a fair trial

  1. Define the workflow. Choose a real project that includes the planning, handoffs, approvals, and reporting your team needs; write down what a successful result looks like.
  2. Use the same test in both products. Configure equivalent work, including dependencies, request intake, board or task fields, and review steps where relevant.
  3. Include representative users. Have the people who do the work, manage it, and approve it try the workflow. Observe setup effort and whether users can find the information and actions they need.
  4. Test reporting and integrations. Check that the views and reports answer your real status questions, and verify any integrations your process depends on.
  5. Price the required configuration. Compare the same number of seats and billing cadence, then include the tiers, action or credit limits, storage, and add-ons your test required.
  6. Check operational fit. Estimate the effort to migrate existing work, establish consistent conventions, and onboard users—not just the subscription charge.
  7. Verify organizational requirements. Validate permissions, security and compliance terms, and data-residency needs before committing.

Decision

Choose Wrike when structured cross-project planning, formal intake, or native creative proofing is central to the work—and the necessary features are in the quoted tier. Choose monday.com when configurable visual boards and adaptable workflows better match how the team wants to coordinate work. If neither distinction settles it, run the same workflow in both products and decide on demonstrated fit and a complete, current quote rather than a starting price.
