Yes—if your computer meets Blizzard’s complete minimum tier for its operating system. For a new Windows purchase, use Blizzard’s recommended tier rather than the minimum: a modern six-core processor, a DirectX 12 graphics card with 8 GB of video memory, 16 GB of system RAM, and an SSD. The minimum and recommended labels are requirement tiers, not promises of a specific frame rate, graphics preset, or resolution beyond the listed minimum display size.
Compare the exact CPU model, GPU model and architecture, graphics memory, system RAM, free storage, operating system, display, and input devices against the official World of Warcraft requirements table. Mac users must use Blizzard’s separate Mac table instead of translating Windows specifications.
Quick answer: what PC does World of Warcraft require?
World of Warcraft has separate Windows and macOS requirements. On Windows, the minimum is a four-core 3.0 GHz processor, a DirectX 12-capable graphics processor with at least 3 GB of graphics memory from a supported family, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of free storage. Blizzard’s recommended Windows target raises that to a six-core 3.5 GHz processor, an 8 GB DirectX 12-capable GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of available SSD space.

Those figures describe eligibility tiers. They do not establish expected frames per second, the graphics preset a particular computer can sustain, loading times, or raid performance. Two computers that both satisfy the same tier can behave differently because their exact components, cooling, drivers, display settings, and game workloads differ.

For an existing computer, identify every component before deciding. A listing that says only “RTX graphics,” “16 GB memory,” or “gaming processor” does not identify the exact model, video-memory capacity, architecture, or driver support that Blizzard’s table requires.
Official Windows requirements
The following values are the Windows specifications currently shown on Blizzard’s live requirements page. Blizzard lists a legacy operating-system version in the minimum column; that is a report of the page’s current table, not a broader statement about security updates or support policy.
| Component | Windows minimum | Windows recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 64-bit (Service Pack 1) | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | 4 cores at 3.0 GHz; 4th Generation Intel Core Haswell or AMD Ryzen Zen | 6 cores at 3.5 GHz; 8th Generation Intel Core Coffee Lake or AMD Ryzen Zen 2 |
| Graphics | DirectX 12-capable 3 GB GPU; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900 series, AMD GCN 4th generation, or Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Manufacturer driver support is required. | DirectX 12-capable 8 GB GPU; NVIDIA GeForce RTX, AMD RDNA 2, or Intel Arc 7 Graphics |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Storage | 128 GB available. An SSD is listed, with a warning that HDD performance can affect the experience. | 128 GB available SSD |
| Internet | Broadband | Broadband |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse required | Multi-button mouse with scroll wheel |
| Minimum display resolution | 1280 × 720 | 1280 × 720 |
The processor line contains both a core-and-clock threshold and an architecture reference. A newer chip with a different model name can still be suitable, but verify its actual core count and clock rather than assuming that a newer marketing label automatically matches the table.

Passing only one or two of those tests is not the same as meeting the requirement.
Official Mac requirements
Blizzard publishes a separate macOS table. Do not substitute a Windows graphics card or processor comparison for these entries; Apple hardware and macOS graphics support are evaluated differently.
| Component | Mac minimum | Mac recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | macOS 10.13 | macOS 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4670 or Apple M1 | Intel Core i7-6700K or Apple M1 Max or better |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB, AMD Radeon R9 M290 2 GB, Intel UHD 630 (on macOS 10.13 or higher, 45 W), or an Apple M1 Metal-capable GPU | AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 8 GB or Apple M1 Max or better |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM; 8 GB is required for supported integrated graphics | 8 GB RAM |
| Storage | 100 GB available | 100 GB available SSD space |
| Internet | Broadband | Broadband |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse | Keyboard and mouse |
| Minimum display resolution | 1024 × 768 | 1024 × 768 |
The integrated-graphics memory qualification matters on older Macs: the minimum RAM entry is higher when the supported integrated graphics configuration requires it. On Apple-silicon systems, check the exact chip—an M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, and later model are not interchangeable labels for performance planning.

Minimum means “meets the listed floor,” not “runs every situation well”
A computer at the minimum tier may launch the game and satisfy Blizzard’s stated component requirements, but the table does not promise a particular frame rate or visual preset. Large cities, crowded events, raids, high view distances, and background applications can impose more load than a quiet outdoor scene. Resolution and graphics options also change the workload.
Recommended is the sensible target for a new Windows purchase
Use the recommended column as a buying target when you want more headroom for current content and ordinary multitasking. It specifies a faster and newer processor class, twice the minimum graphics memory, twice the system memory, and SSD storage. It still is not a benchmark: Blizzard does not publish an FPS result for this tier on the requirements page.
Do not mix columns
Combining a recommended GPU with minimum RAM, or a minimum processor with a recommended graphics card, creates a custom configuration that Blizzard’s table does not rate. Compare every row and record the weakest row separately before making a decision.
How to check whether your existing Windows PC qualifies
- Record the operating system. Open Settings → System → About and note the Windows edition, version, and whether the installation is 64-bit. Compare that result with the operating-system row in Blizzard’s table.
- Record the processor. In the same About panel, copy the full processor name. Look for the number of cores and the base or advertised clock in the manufacturer’s specification; a generic family name is not enough.
- Identify the exact GPU. Blizzard’s GPU notice gives two Windows paths: Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, or Device Manager → Display adapters. Copy the complete adapter name, including any mobile suffix, rather than writing down only the brand family.
- Verify graphics memory and capability. Use the exact model’s manufacturer specification to confirm video-memory capacity and DirectX 12 capability. Also check that a current manufacturer driver supports the installed Windows version.
- Check system RAM. Return to Settings → System → About and record installed memory. If the PC uses integrated graphics, some system RAM may be shared with the GPU; leave enough memory for Windows and other running applications.
- Check free storage, not just drive capacity. Open File Explorer and inspect the free space on the drive where the game will be installed. The requirement is available space, so a nearly full drive can fail the check even when its advertised capacity is large enough.
- Check the display and controls. Confirm that the monitor can show at least the platform’s listed minimum resolution. A keyboard and mouse are required; the recommended Windows configuration specifically calls for a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel.
- Confirm broadband access. The table lists broadband for both tiers. This is a connectivity requirement, not a guarantee of a particular latency; local network quality and service-provider routing still affect play.
Create a small inventory with the exact values before comparing the PC with the table. If one value is unknown, treat the result as “not verified” rather than assuming it passes.
Older GPUs: architecture support is a separate check
Blizzard’s “World of Warcraft: Forever GPU Requirements” notice, dated September 17, 2026, identifies supported GPU architectures as AMD Graphics Core Next 1 from 2012, NVIDIA Maxwell from 2014, Intel Skylake from 2015, or newer. The notice explains that the visual update relies on RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders. Blizzard says, “This change helps support the updated visual look of World of Warcraft and provides a more consistent experience for players.”

- Processor specifications: Adopting AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor, with a basic clock speed of 3.5GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.4GHz, it can achieve fast response computing performance
- Graphics Card: Features GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card with 6GB dedicated video memory for gaming and multimedia applications
- Memory configuration: Equipped with 32GB DDR4 RAM (16GB * 2), providing sufficient memory capacity for multitasking and demanding applications
- Gaming Performance: Designed to handle modern gaming titles and graphics-intensive tasks with smooth frame rates and visual quality
- Desktop System: Complete gaming desktop computer system ready for setup and use out of the box
The notice’s compatible examples include AMD Radeon HD 7850, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9xx and GTX 750/750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530. Blizzard explicitly warns that these examples remain well below the game’s minimum requirements. In other words, an architecture can be accepted while a specific card still fails the full minimum GPU specification because of video memory, DirectX capability, driver support, or other requirements.
The notice lists AMD Radeon HD 6950, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760/770/780 and GTX 8xxM, and Intel HD Graphics 6000 as unsupported examples. A card not named in the notice is not automatically approved; identify its architecture and then check the complete requirements table.
Why an old card can pass one test and fail another
- Architecture test: Is the GPU generation new enough for the rendering feature Blizzard describes?
- Memory test: Does the exact card have the required amount of graphics memory for the Windows tier?
- API and driver test: Does it support DirectX 12 with a manufacturer-supported driver on the installed operating system?
- Performance headroom: Even if the first three tests pass, the requirements table does not promise a frame rate or graphics preset.
What to buy for a new Windows PC
Start with Blizzard’s recommended Windows column, then verify the exact parts in the retailer’s specification sheet. The following checklist turns the table into buying questions without relying on vague product labels.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Buying question | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Which processor is installed? | Exact model, six or more physical cores, and the listed clock class; confirm its generation. | “Gaming CPU” does not reveal core count, architecture, or clock behavior. |
| Which graphics processor? | Exact GPU model, 8 GB or more of graphics memory for the recommended target, DirectX 12 capability, and a listed RTX, RDNA 2, or Intel Arc 7 family. | Two cards under one broad family label can have different memory capacities and performance. |
| How much system memory? | 16 GB installed, preferably with a configuration that leaves upgrade slots or capacity. | Background applications and the operating system share RAM with the game. |
| What storage is included? | At least 128 GB free on an SSD after the operating system and other files are accounted for. | Advertised drive capacity is not the same as available installation space. |
| Which operating system? | 64-bit Windows matching the supported table entry and current manufacturer drivers. | Component capability depends on operating-system and driver support. |
| What ports and accessories? | A keyboard, a mouse with a scroll wheel and multiple buttons, and a display meeting the listed resolution. | The game’s input requirement is part of the specification, not an optional extra. |
Prefer a machine with cooling and power delivery appropriate for its exact processor and GPU. The Blizzard table does not specify a power-supply wattage, case airflow, laptop thermal design, or monitor refresh rate, so those are separate purchase checks rather than requirements you can infer from the game’s table.
How to read a listing accurately
- Reject listings that omit the full GPU model or graphics-memory amount.
- Ask whether “RAM” means installed system memory and whether the graphics processor uses shared memory.
- Confirm that the stated storage is SSD storage and determine the free capacity after setup.
- Check the operating-system edition and architecture instead of assuming every prebuilt includes the same version.
- Save the manufacturer’s specification page or invoice so you can verify the delivered parts.
Buying a Mac for World of Warcraft
Use the Mac table as the decision framework. First identify whether the machine uses an Intel processor or Apple silicon, then compare the exact chip and GPU configuration. A Mac that appears newer by release date can still differ substantially in graphics hardware, memory, and storage.
- Choose the macOS version that meets the table’s operating-system row.
- Record the exact processor designation, such as the Intel model or Apple chip tier.
- Check the graphics entry, including the GPU model and memory for Intel or AMD configurations, or the Apple-silicon chip named by Blizzard.
- Verify RAM, remembering Blizzard’s higher minimum for supported integrated graphics.
- Leave the required free space on an SSD and confirm a keyboard, mouse, broadband connection, and a display that meets the Mac resolution row.
Do not convert a Windows recommendation into a Mac shopping rule by matching clock speed or core count alone. Blizzard’s Mac entries name specific Intel, AMD, and Apple configurations, so use those entries directly.

SSD, hard-drive, display, and peripheral details
Storage
Windows requires 128 GB of available space in both tiers, while Mac lists 100 GB. Blizzard lists an SSD for the recommended configurations and warns that hard-drive performance can affect the experience. The space must be free where the game is installed; total disk capacity printed on a box is not an installation check.
Display
The Windows table lists 1280 × 720 as the minimum display resolution for both tiers. The Mac table lists 1024 × 768. These are minimum display dimensions, not recommended graphics settings or a frame-rate target.
Input
Both platforms list a keyboard and mouse. Windows’ recommended row calls for a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel. Controllers, trackpads, and other accessories may be useful for some players, but they do not replace the listed keyboard-and-mouse requirement.
Internet
Blizzard lists broadband for minimum and recommended configurations. Broadband availability does not specify a guaranteed latency, upload speed, or wireless standard, so network quality remains a separate practical consideration.
Common purchase and compatibility mistakes
“The GPU family is supported, so the PC passes.”
Family support is only one part of the check. Confirm the exact architecture, memory, DirectX 12 support, and driver availability, then compare the entire minimum or recommended column.
“The computer has 16 GB of RAM, so it is recommended.”
System memory is only one row. A weak or unsupported GPU, an older processor, a hard drive, insufficient free space, or an incompatible operating system can still prevent the machine from matching the recommended tier.

“The drive is 128 GB, so there is enough room.”
The requirement is available space. The operating system, recovery partition, updates, and other applications reduce usable capacity. Check free space after setup.
“Minimum requirements tell me the FPS.”
They do not. Blizzard’s official pages provide component thresholds, not independent frame-rate tests, graphics-presets comparisons, or performance results for particular computers.
“A laptop and desktop with the same GPU name are identical.”
Mobile and desktop versions can differ in power limits, cooling, and clocks. Record the complete model, including mobile or laptop suffixes, and verify the manufacturer’s specification.

A practical pass-or-fail decision
- Choose the platform: Windows or Mac. Use only that platform’s table.
- Check the operating system: confirm the version and 64-bit requirement where applicable.
- Check the processor: verify the exact model, core count, clock class, and generation.
- Check graphics: verify architecture, exact model, graphics memory, DirectX or Metal capability, and driver support.
- Check RAM and free SSD space: compare installed memory and available capacity, not advertised maximums.
- Check the rest of the setup: broadband, display resolution, keyboard, and mouse.
- Classify the result: “meets minimum” only when every minimum row is verified; “meets recommended” only when every recommended row is verified; otherwise identify the specific missing row.
If a used PC fails one row, price the upgrade and confirm that the motherboard, power supply, cooling, and case can support it. Replacing a graphics card may not solve a processor, storage, operating-system, or memory shortfall.
Source and update note
Blizzard’s official requirements page is dynamic and does not show a publication date in the reviewed table. Because requirements can change, revisit the page at the time of purchase or installation. The separate GPU architecture notice is dated September 17, 2026 and should be read alongside—not instead of—the complete platform requirements.
