Start with the cause of the loss. If you accidentally sold, destroyed, or disenchanted one or a few items, use Blizzard’s self-service Item Restoration page. If many items or gold disappeared, your password or account access changed, or you see activity you did not perform, treat the account as potentially compromised: recover and secure the account and computer, then submit a support ticket. If another player tricked you in a trade, report that account, but do not expect Blizzard to reimburse the items or gold.
The correct route matters because Item Restoration has strict eligibility rules, while hacked-account and scam cases follow different procedures.
Choose the right Blizzard support route

How Item Restoration works
Item Restoration is the first option for an accidental vendor sale, destruction, or disenchant. Open the World of Warcraft Item Restoration page, choose the character, and review the items Blizzard still lists as eligible. Select an item, complete the restoration, and check that character’s in-game mailbox. Blizzard says restored items are mailed directly after processing.
The service is limited to up to five items per character every 24 hours. Blizzard also describes the service as usable once every 24 hours per character. The limit is attached to each character, not one shared allowance for the whole account. You need game time or an active subscription, and the account cannot be suspended or banned while you use the service.

Exact restoration steps
- Log in to the Battle.net account that owns the World of Warcraft license.
- Open Blizzard Support and select World of Warcraft’s Item Restoration service.
- Choose the realm and character where the loss occurred.
- Review the list of eligible sold, destroyed, or disenchanted items.
- Select the item or items, staying within the displayed allowance, and submit the restoration.
- Log in to the character and check the in-game mailbox. Allow time for the message to arrive after the request is processed.
What happens after a disenchant
When you restore an item that was disenchanted, Blizzard’s service reclaims the materials you received from that disenchant. You do not keep both the restored item and the disenchant materials. Make sure the materials are still available; the restoration process is designed to take them back.
Items that are not eligible
Being absent from your inventory does not automatically make an item restorable. Blizzard’s Item Restoration rules exclude several categories and situations:
- Current-session destruction: If you destroyed an item during the current game session, log out first. For a recent vendor sale, check the vendor’s Buyback tab before using restoration. Blizzard says the Buyback tab can show the 12 most recently sold items during that session.
- Quest items and stackable crafting materials: These are excluded from the restoration service.
- Consumables: Potions, food, and other consumable items are not restored through this flow.
- Collection-tab items: A collectible already added to the Collections interface cannot be restored as an inventory item.
- Temporary holiday items: Seasonal or temporary event items are excluded.
- Items transferred to someone else: Items traded or mailed to another character or player are not covered by accidental-item restoration.
- Auction House transactions: Items sold through the Auction House are excluded from this service.
- Pre-transfer losses: Items destroyed before a character transfer or faction change cannot be restored through the service.
If an item does not appear in the character’s restoration list, Blizzard says it is no longer available for restoration. Customer Support cannot recover items that have been purged from the service’s records.

How long an item may remain available
Blizzard explains that better-quality and higher-item-level items are generally retained longer, but it does not present a guaranteed lifetime for every item. Its examples are a Common (white) item that may remain recoverable for about one day and an Epic item that may remain recoverable for about 30 days. Treat those as examples, not promises. Check the restoration list as soon as you notice the loss.

When a missing quest reward needs support
A quest reward that was sold, destroyed, or disenchanted can follow the same Item Restoration route as any other eligible item. Select the character that completed the quest and look for the reward in the list.
If the quest item is not listed, do not submit repeated tickets expecting a manual recovery. Blizzard’s guidance says a purged item is no longer recoverable by Customer Support. You can still use the normal support flow if the problem is a quest-completion or entitlement error rather than an item you discarded, but describe exactly what the quest granted, when it was completed, and what is missing.
Recognizing a possible account compromise
Use the hacked-account route when the pattern is broader than one mistaken click. Warning signs include a changed password or email address, inability to log in, unfamiliar characters or transactions, several missing items, or gold disappearing across multiple characters.

Blizzard’s Account Hacked guidance puts the actions in this order: regain access through Account Recovery, secure the Battle.net account and the computer, and then submit a support ticket. The article was surfaced on Blizzard’s European support site; menu labels and contact options can differ by region, so use the corresponding US support and recovery pages when your account is US-based.

Secure the account before opening a ticket
- Use Blizzard’s Account Recovery process if you cannot sign in or your credentials were changed.
- Change the Battle.net password from a clean device. Do not reuse a password exposed on another service.
- Scan the computer used to play World of Warcraft for malware, keyloggers, and unauthorized browser extensions.
- Review the account’s email address, phone number, authenticator status, recent logins, and characters for changes you did not make.
- Add a Battle.net Authenticator and a passkey after access is restored. Blizzard recommends both as additional protections.
- Only after the computer and account are secured, submit a support ticket with a timeline of the suspicious activity.
What to include in a compromise ticket
- The Battle.net account email or account identifier requested by the form, without posting it publicly.
- The affected World of Warcraft region, realm, and character names.
- When you last had normal access and when you first noticed the loss.
- Examples of missing items, gold, mounts, or account changes.
- Any password, email, authenticator, or login changes you did not authorize.
- Confirmation that you recovered the account and secured the computer.
Do not send your password, authenticator codes, or passkey credentials in a ticket. Blizzard’s support form will identify the information it needs.
Finding missing gold safely
A small gold discrepancy on one character is not proof of hacking. Before escalating, check ordinary in-game destinations and transactions:
- Auction House purchases or deposits, including a purchase you made and forgot.
- Vendor purchases and repair costs.
- Mail sent to another character or player.
- Gold deposited into a guild bank.
- A WoW Token purchase.
- An addon that is displaying a stale or filtered balance.
Log out and back in, disable the addon temporarily, and inspect each character’s mailbox and guild-bank activity. If the shortage appears across characters, is accompanied by missing items, or coincides with an account-access change, stop troubleshooting it as a bookkeeping issue and follow the compromise steps above.

Blizzard distinguishes an accidental deletion from a voluntary trade made because another player deceived you. Its Trade Scams guidance says: “Take appropriate measures to protect yourself, as we do not restore items or gold in these situations.”

Report the suspected scammer through the in-game reporting tools and provide the facts: the characters involved, approximate time, realm, trade terms, and what was delivered or promised. Blizzard says it may take action when it can verify the incident, but that possibility is not a promise to return your property. Do not claim that a support ticket will reimburse a scam loss.
Using Blizzard’s general support flow
If Item Restoration does not list the item and the problem is not an account compromise or scam, open Blizzard Support and choose the closest World of Warcraft issue. The US loot-problem flow points players to troubleshooting and then offers a Contact Us route.
Available contact methods can depend on the issue category, whether you are signed in, and your region. The available evidence does not establish a universal phone number, live-chat guarantee, or fixed response time. Follow the logged-in options shown for your case and keep one ticket focused on one incident so the support agent can reconstruct it.
Information that makes an ordinary item ticket useful
- Character name, realm, and region.
- Item name, quality, approximate item level, and whether it was sold, destroyed, or disenchanted.
- Approximate date and time of the action, including your time zone.
- Whether you checked the vendor Buyback tab and Item Restoration list.
- Any error message shown by the support page.
- Screenshots or other evidence that do not expose passwords or security codes.
Common mistakes that delay recovery
Waiting until the retention window expires
Item availability can vary by item quality and level. Because Blizzard’s examples range from about one day for a Common item to about 30 days for an Epic, check the list immediately rather than assuming every item remains available for a month.

Using the restoration service for a trade or Auction House loss
Items mailed, traded, or sold through the Auction House are specifically excluded. Choose the scam-report or general support route instead, and describe the transaction accurately.
Submitting a ticket before securing a compromised computer
If malware is still present, a password reset alone may not stop another login. Follow account recovery, device security, and then ticket submission in that order.
Assuming a missing item is actually gone
Check the character’s mailbox, bags, bank, guild bank, Collections interface, and any character to which you may have mailed it. An addon can also hide a balance or item. These checks prevent an unnecessary escalation while preserving the restoration window for a genuine mistake.

Practical decision checklist
- One item, accidental action: Check Buyback if the session is still active; otherwise use Item Restoration.
- Quest reward missing: Search Item Restoration on the quest character. If absent, use general support only for a quest or entitlement problem; purged items are not recoverable.
- Several items or widespread gold loss: Treat it as a possible compromise, recover the account, secure the device, add stronger authentication, and submit a ticket.
- You gave items or gold to a deceptive player: Report the account, but expect no restoration of the loss.
- No route fits: Choose the closest logged-in World of Warcraft issue and use the available Contact Us flow.
