To turn down a new game request in Words With Friends 2, decline the request; to leave a match that has already started, resign it. Zynga documents how to resign an active game, but its support article does not give a platform-by-platform sequence for declining a single incoming request.
Declining a request is different from resigning a game
A decline applies to a new game request. A resign ends a match already in progress. Zynga treats these as separate actions, so use the one that matches the game’s status.
How to resign from an active game
- Open the game you want to leave.
- Tap More, shown as three horizontal lines.
- Tap Resign or the white-flag icon.
These are the steps in Zynga Player Support’s instructions for resigning a game. Button placement or wording may differ by platform or app version; if you do not see the documented label, check the controls on the current game screen.
What happens if you keep declining requests from one player?
Zynga says that declining several consecutive new game requests from the same player can bring up a prompt asking whether you want to block that player. The support article does not specify how many declines trigger it. According to Zynga’s explanation of repeated declined requests, you can stop the prompt by blocking the player or accepting another request from them.

The prompt applies to new game requests; Zynga explicitly excludes rematches and resigned games from that category. If you want to turn down one incoming request, use the decline control shown in the app. Zynga’s cited support article does not document the exact button sequence for each platform, so its location should not be assumed.
What if you leave a game idle?
Zynga lists different inactivity periods depending on the opponent type. Its support article says random-opponent games auto-resign after five days without a game action, while non-random-opponent games auto-resign after eleven days. It separately says the server performs the auto-resignation on the sixth day for random opponents and the twelfth day for non-random opponents, counted from the last game action.

These timelines come from Zynga Player Support. They describe automatic handling of an idle active game, not the action for declining a new request.
