The sync or pairing button on a wireless mouse is often on its underside, but its location, label and activation method depend on the model. Turn the mouse over and look for Connect, Pair, a Bluetooth symbol, a channel number or Easy-Switch. First check whether your mouse connects by Bluetooth or a USB receiver: a receiver-based mouse may work without Bluetooth pairing.
Where to look for the sync button
Start on the underside of the mouse. Manufacturer examples include a Bluetooth pairing button on the bottom of Microsoft’s Bluetooth Mouse and an Easy-Switch/connect button on the bottom of Logitech’s MX Anywhere 3. These examples make the underside a useful first place to inspect, not a guaranteed location for every mouse.
Look for markings such as Connect, Pair, the Bluetooth symbol, channel numbers or Easy-Switch. Find the model name or number on the underside, inside the battery compartment, on the packaging or in your computer’s device list. Use that model information to find the correct manufacturer instructions if the controls are not clearly labeled. Logitech says to consult product documentation when its general pairing guidance does not work.
Identify the connection type before pairing
“Wireless” does not necessarily mean Bluetooth. A mouse may connect through Bluetooth, a USB receiver, or either method. If a USB receiver came with your mouse, plug it into the computer and follow the mouse’s receiver setup instructions. In Logitech’s guidance, the mouse should connect after the receiver is plugged in; holding the mouse’s button for three seconds is a fallback if needed.

Bluetooth pairing is a separate process: put the mouse into pairing or discoverable mode, then select it in the computer’s Bluetooth settings. Receiver instructions do not automatically apply to Bluetooth, and Bluetooth discovery steps may not apply to a mouse that is already paired with its receiver.
Pairing steps vary by model
Once you have identified the model and connection method, use the manufacturer’s documented control and timing. These examples show why there is no single button sequence for every wireless mouse.

These actions and timings apply to the named products or applicable models, not to wireless mice generally. Check the instructions for your exact model before holding or pressing a button.
Read the controls and indicator light correctly
Power switch versus pairing control
A switch on the bottom may only turn the mouse on or off. Check for a separate pairing or channel control, a Bluetooth marking, or the model’s manual rather than treating every underside switch as a sync button.

Channel selection versus pairing mode
On the MX Anywhere 3, a short press of Easy-Switch changes the selected computer channel; holding it for three seconds enters discoverable mode. If the mouse supports multiple channels, select the intended one before pairing. A brief press and a long press can therefore do different jobs on the same control.
Blinking lights
In the cited Microsoft, Logitech and Dell examples, a flashing or blinking light signals pairing or connection mode. The exact pattern depends on the model, so a light that looks different from these examples does not by itself show that your mouse is faulty.

If the computer cannot find the mouse
- Confirm power. Make sure the mouse is switched on.
- Check the connection path. If you intend to use Bluetooth, enter the documented pairing mode and open the computer’s Bluetooth settings. If you intend to use a USB receiver, plug in the receiver and follow that model’s receiver setup instructions.
- Check the channel. For a multi-device mouse, select the channel you want to pair before starting the process.
- Consult the exact model instructions. If the light or computer response differs from what you expect, use the manufacturer’s support page for your mouse rather than assuming that “sync” means the same control or sequence on every model.
