No authoritative Microsoft source establishes that Windows Settings has replaced every Control Panel dialog except one. Microsoft documents Settings pages across many categories and describes individual functions that have moved, but it does not publish a complete, current inventory of remaining dialogs. The useful distinction is between a task that has moved and an entire Control Panel dialog that has disappeared.
Why the “one dialog left” claim is unverified
Microsoft’s Settings URI catalogue lists destinations for areas such as apps, network, sound, display, and troubleshooting. That shows how much configuration is available in Settings; it is not a one-to-one map of every Control Panel dialog and does not identify a final holdout.
Microsoft also documents specific functions migrating from Control Panel to Settings. A function-level change does not prove that its original dialog, or all the other functions in it, has been removed. Without a dated inventory tied to a particular Windows build, the claim that exactly one dialog remains cannot be treated as fact.
What Microsoft documents as moved
Renaming network adapters
Microsoft’s Win32 user experience guidance says Settings has replaced the Control Panel function for renaming network adapters on Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025. The modern route is Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings.

The same guidance describes a problem with the Control Panel right-click method: it can trigger an elevation prompt. Microsoft marks that problem “won’t-fix” for the specified systems and gives the Control Panel “Rename this connection” button as a workaround. This is an example of a migrated task coexisting with a legacy route—not evidence that all of Control Panel has been replaced.
Open common Settings pages directly
Microsoft’s URI catalogue includes these direct destinations. Availability and behavior can vary with Windows version, device, and feature status.

To use one, press Win+R, enter the URI, and press Enter. If the page does not open, navigate through Settings or check whether the feature is available on that Windows installation.
Why Control Panel access can differ
What appears on a PC may reflect administrative policy rather than a universal Windows change. Microsoft documents policies that can hide selected Control Panel items, as well as a policy that prevents Control Panel and PC Settings programs from starting. Has Microsoft announced when Control Panel will go away?
The available Microsoft documentation does not set a removal date for Control Panel. Microsoft’s Windows client deprecation documentation explains how deprecated features may later be removed, but it does not identify Control Panel itself as deprecated or announce its retirement.
A Microsoft Q&A response says there is “no set date yet” for removing Control Panel completely. That is a community support answer, not a formal Microsoft roadmap commitment; it should not be read as a guarantee that Control Panel will remain indefinitely. See the Microsoft Q&A discussion.

How to check a claimed “last dialog”
- Identify the exact Windows version and build on the PC; the result may differ across releases and editions.
- Check the relevant Settings category and Microsoft’s URI catalogue for a matching destination.
- Compare the specific task, not just the dialog’s name: Settings may handle one function while a legacy route remains for another.
- On a work- or school-managed device, ask whether policy is hiding the item or blocking access.
Because Microsoft has not published an exhaustive, build-by-build comparison, any claimed count of remaining dialogs needs a clear Windows version and date, plus direct verification of each item.
