Create a managed-device filter in the Microsoft Intune admin center using operatingSystemSKU Equals WCPC (Windows CPC (210)). You can then use the filter to include or exclude Windows 365 Link devices in supported Windows workload assignments. It targets assignments; it does not join or enroll devices.

Create the Windows 365 Link managed-device filter

  1. In the Microsoft Intune admin center, go to Tenant administration > Filters > Create > Managed devices.
  2. Enter a filter name and, if useful, a description.
  3. For platform, select Windows 10 and later.
  4. Add this rule: Property: operatingSystemSKU (Operating System SKU); Operator: Equals; Value: WCPC (Windows CPC (210)).
  5. Select Review + create, review the configuration, and select Create.

Microsoft documents this filter for including or excluding Windows 365 Link devices in supported Windows workload assignments. For the full syntax and supported properties, see Microsoft’s Intune filters reference. Microsoft’s Windows 365 Link filter instructions provide the dedicated creation steps; they do not list Preview as a required step.

What the filter does—and what it does not do

The filter identifies matching managed devices when you target a supported assignment. It does not Entra-join a Windows 365 Link, enroll it in Intune, or make an unenrolled device appear in the managed-device list. Those steps and prerequisites must be in place separately.

Check enrollment prerequisites

  • Microsoft Entra join: The Windows 365 Link device must be joined to Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Intune MDM authority: The tenant’s MDM authority must be Microsoft Intune.
  • Automatic enrollment scope: Set the Microsoft Intune MDM user scope to All or Some, as appropriate for your organization.
  • License: The user enrolling the device needs the appropriate Microsoft Entra Premium license.

Microsoft lists filter creation as an optional deployment-preparation step alongside device requirements, Entra device settings, automatic enrollment, enrollment restrictions, and Conditional Access validation. See Microsoft’s Windows 365 Link deployment guidance and Microsoft’s automatic enrollment documentation.

Resolve enrollment blocked by an Unknown ownership state

During its first enrollment, a Windows 365 Link may initially be classified as Unknown. An enrollment restriction that blocks personally owned Windows devices also blocks Unknown devices, which can prevent enrollment. Microsoft documents three possible approaches; choose based on how you identify devices and administer restrictions:

Approach How it works Key consideration
Register corporate identifiers Upload the devices’ manufacturer, model, and serial number as corporate identifiers so ownership is recognized. Use the actual details for each device. Microsoft’s example CSV row is Microsoft Corporation,Windows 365 Link,01234567890123.
Use a SKU-filtered allow restriction Create an allow restriction, assign it using the Windows 365 Link SKU filter, and select Include filtered devices in assignment. Place the allow restriction above the blocking restriction in priority order.
Use a Device Enrollment Manager (DEM) Enroll through a DEM where that approach fits your enrollment workflow and restrictions. Use this delegated enrollment option only where appropriate to your organization’s process.

These options address enrollment restrictions, not the filter’s assignment-targeting function. See Microsoft’s Windows 365 Link deployment guidance for the documented approaches.

Account for Windows 365 Link management limitations

  • Compliance: The only compliance setting Microsoft says applies to Windows 365 Link is Device health.
  • Security controls: BitLocker, Secure Boot, and code integrity are enabled by default and cannot be turned off. Most Intune endpoint security features do not apply. The operating system includes the Defender for Endpoint sensor, and devices can be onboarded to Defender for Endpoint.
  • Remote actions while asleep: In disconnected standby, the device does not check in with Intune or respond to remote device actions.

These are device-specific management behaviors, not changes to the filter rule. Microsoft describes them in its Windows 365 Link documentation.
