Windows 11 has built-in tools for arranging windows, finding open apps, saving clipboard items, limiting interruptions and connecting a phone. These 11 tips show how to use them, with the keyboard shortcuts and Settings paths you need.
Arrange apps on screen with Snap
1. Snap two windows side by side
To place two apps next to each other, drag one window to the left or right edge of the screen. When the outline appears, release it, then choose another open app from Snap Assist to fill the other side. You can also select a window and press Windows key + Left Arrow or Windows key + Right Arrow.
2. Choose a Snap layout
For more than two windows, hover over the maximize button in an app’s title bar and select a layout. Or press Windows key + Z and choose a layout with the keyboard or mouse. Windows then offers other open apps to fill its spaces. The available layouts depend on your display size. Microsoft’s Snap guidance explains how to use Snap layouts and Snap Assist.

After snapping windows together, you can switch away and come back to that arrangement as a Snap Group. Look for the group by hovering over a related app on the taskbar, or find it in Task View or the Alt + Tab switcher. Microsoft describes Snap groups as collections of snapped windows that let you quickly return to a particular arrangement; this is a convenient way to restore a layout, not a guarantee that every app or arrangement will always appear as a group.

Navigate open apps and separate workspaces
4. Find an open window with Task View
Press Windows key + Tab to open Task View and see your open windows. Select one to bring it forward. This is useful when several apps are open and their taskbar previews are difficult to distinguish.
5. Create a separate desktop
Press Windows key + Ctrl + D to create a virtual desktop. Use Windows key + Tab to view and move between desktops. A separate desktop can keep a set of work or study windows apart from another set; it does not close the apps on the other desktop.

6. Turn on clipboard history
Press Windows key + V. If Windows prompts you, choose the option to turn on clipboard history. Open it again with the same shortcut to select a recent copied item and paste it. Clipboard history is limited to 25 entries.
7. Pin items you want to keep
In the clipboard history panel, pin entries you expect to reuse. Unpinned entries are cleared when you restart Windows; pinned entries are the exception. Pinning is useful for frequently reused snippets, but it does not increase the history’s 25-entry limit.

8. Decide whether clipboard items sync across devices
Go to Settings > System > Clipboard to configure clipboard syncing. Sync can make copied items available on other devices using the same Microsoft or work account. Because this sends clipboard content across devices, leave it off if you do not want copied material shared that way. Clipboard history itself can still be used on the PC without cross-device sync.
Reduce interruptions with Focus
9. Start and configure a Focus session
Open Settings > System > Focus to adjust a Focus session’s duration and effects. A session can turn on Do not disturb and hide taskbar badges and flashing indicators. Microsoft’s support directions also point to the Clock app for Focus sessions. Focus is for reducing interruptions; review its notification settings if you need particular alerts to remain visible.

Use Windows shortcuts and phone integration
10. Use Phone Link for supported phone tasks
Phone Link can bring selected phone functions to a Windows PC, such as messages, photos, calls and notifications. The features available depend on the phone and the specific capability, so check Microsoft’s current Phone Link requirements and setup guidance and its device-specific information before relying on a feature. For the Android setup described in Microsoft’s requirements guidance, the phone needs Android 10 or later and both devices must share a Wi-Fi network. iPhone capabilities differ, so confirm those separately.
11. Learn a few shortcuts you will reuse
These shortcuts open useful Windows tools directly:
