Windows 11 Release Preview update KB5127936 was reported on October 16, 2026, for testing on two development branches: build 26200.9807 for Windows 11 version 25H2 and build 26300.9807 for version 26H2. The update contains platform reliability work for Windows Spotlight on the lock screen and fixes an enterprise policy that could not be configured through Microsoft Intune.

Because KB5127936 is a Release Preview package, it is intended for devices enrolled in Microsoft’s Release Preview channel rather than for every Windows 11 computer. Microsoft uses gradual, normal rollout phases for this channel, so availability and the timing of individual features can differ between devices.

What is Windows 11 update KB5127936?

KB5127936 is a Windows 11 Release Preview servicing update. The reported package applies to two version-specific build lines:

Windows 11 version Reported build after installation Audience
25H2 26200.9807 Devices enrolled in Release Preview
26H2 26300.9807 Devices enrolled in Release Preview

The update is not described as a major feature release. Its listed work is focused on platform reliability and enterprise configuration, and preview behavior can change before a broader release.

What changed in build 26200.9807?

More reliable Windows Spotlight on the lock screen

For Windows 11 version 25H2, KB5127936 makes underlying platform changes intended to improve the reliability of Windows Spotlight on the lock screen. The report does not promise a new Spotlight capability, a redesigned interface, or a guaranteed fix for every lock-screen problem. Instead, the change targets the platform components that support Spotlight, so the practical result may be fewer failures or more consistent operation on affected systems.

What changed in build 26300.9807?

The same Spotlight reliability work

Version 26H2 receives the corresponding platform reliability changes in build 26300.9807. The build number differs because 26H2 uses the 26300 branch, but the reported Spotlight objective is the same as on 25H2.

Intune policy configuration fix

KB5127936 also addresses an issue that prevented administrators from configuring the following Microsoft Intune policy:

“Specify thumbprints of certificates representing trusted .rdp publishers.”

Rank #3

This policy is used when an organization needs to identify trusted certificate thumbprints for Remote Desktop Protocol publishers. The reported fix concerns configuration through Intune; it should not be interpreted as a change to RDP certificate trust design or as a replacement for an organization’s certificate-management process.

Is KB5127936 safe to install?

It is a Microsoft Release Preview update, so it is generally intended for evaluation before normal production deployment rather than for systems that must avoid preview software. Release Preview builds use Microsoft’s ordinary servicing and gradual-rollout process, but preview content can still be staged, adjusted, or changed before broad availability.

How to get KB5127936

  1. Open Settings and select Windows Update.
  2. Open Windows Insider Program and enroll the device in the Release Preview channel if it is not already enrolled. Enrollment may require an eligible Microsoft account and acceptance of the program terms.
  3. Return to Windows Update, select Check for updates, and allow Windows to offer the applicable preview servicing package.
  4. Install the update and restart when prompted.
  5. After rebooting, open Settings > System > About and verify the build number. Version 25H2 should report build 26200.9807; version 26H2 should report build 26300.9807 when the package has been applied.

Microsoft does not identify physical installation media as necessary for this update. If it does not appear immediately, the device may not be enrolled correctly, may be on a different Windows version, or may not yet be included in the gradual rollout. Preview availability can vary by device, so repeatedly checking Windows Update is preferable to installing an unrelated package intended for another build branch.

How KB5127936 compares with a normal cumulative update

Factor KB5127936 Release Preview Normal cumulative update
Target Windows 11 25H2 build 26200.9807 or 26H2 build 26300.9807 Depends on the production servicing release
Enrollment Release Preview participation is required for the preview path Normally delivered through standard Windows Update servicing
Rollout Gradual and normal rollout phases; timing may vary Production rollout governed by the regular release schedule
Reported user-facing work Reliability improvements for Windows Spotlight on the lock screen Varies by release
Reported enterprise work Fix for configuring the trusted RDP publisher certificate-thumbprint policy through Intune Varies by release
Type of change Platform reliability and a management-policy fix, not a documented new capability May include security, quality, reliability, or feature changes

What administrators should verify

  • Check that the device is actually running the intended 25H2 or 26H2 branch before evaluating the build number.
  • In Intune, confirm that the trusted RDP publisher certificate-thumbprint policy can be opened, edited, assigned, and reported as expected.
  • Test lock-screen Spotlight behavior after a restart and after normal sign-in/sign-out cycles.
  • Record any remaining issues separately, because the update’s reported scope is limited to the platform reliability work and the Intune policy configuration problem.

Bottom line

KB5127936 is a Release Preview update for Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2, reported as builds 26200.9807 and 26300.9807 respectively. Its two documented areas are improved Windows Spotlight reliability on the lock screen and an Intune fix for configuring trusted RDP publisher certificate thumbprints. Install it through the Release Preview channel on pilot devices first, and expect availability to vary while Microsoft stages the update.
