Microsoft’s October 13, 2026 cumulative updates include a documented fix for mouse input stuttering in some Windows 11 games: KB5127648 for versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2, and KB5127646 for version 26H1.
The fix addresses a specific input problem: Microsoft says the affected updates resolve an issue that could cause mouse input to stutter in some games. It is not a general promise of higher frame rates, lower system latency or improved performance in every title.
Which Windows 11 update fixes gaming mouse stutter?
| Windows 11 release | Applicable October 13, 2026 update | Deployment options |
|---|---|---|
| 24H2 | KB5127648 | Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, Microsoft Update Catalog or WSUS |
| 25H2 | KB5127648 | Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, Microsoft Update Catalog or WSUS |
| 26H2 | KB5127648 | Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, Microsoft Update Catalog or WSUS |
| 26H1 | KB5127646 | Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, Microsoft Update Catalog or WSUS |
Both KB articles describe cumulative software updates. A gaming mouse, controller or other peripheral cannot substitute for installing the applicable Windows update.

What Microsoft’s fix does—and does not—claim
The documented scope is mouse-input stutter in some games. Microsoft has not published a list of every affected game, mouse model, driver combination or hardware configuration, and it has not released a prevalence rate or benchmark showing a universal frame-rate or latency gain.

That means a computer may still experience hitching caused by a game engine, graphics driver, USB issue, firmware, background process or network condition. Installing the correct cumulative update removes the Windows issue Microsoft identified, but it does not diagnose every possible source of intermittent input.
How to install the update
Windows Update
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install KB5127648 if the PC runs Windows 11 24H2, 25H2 or 26H2, or install KB5127646 if it runs 26H1.
- Restart when Windows requests it, then test the game using the same mouse and settings that produced the stutter.
If the update is not offered immediately, Windows may still be evaluating compatibility, the device may be managed by an organization, or the PC may need earlier servicing prerequisites.

Managed and manual deployment
Organizations can approve the package through Windows Update for Business or distribute it with WSUS. Administrators who need a manual package can use the Microsoft Update Catalog. Microsoft provides separate x64 and Arm64 packages, so select the architecture that matches the device. Cumulative updates contain only the new changes when the required earlier prerequisites are already installed; they do not require reinstalling the entire operating system.
Check your Windows 11 version before choosing a KB
- Open Settings and select System.
- Choose About.
- Read the Windows specifications section, including the version and edition.
- Confirm the system type so you can distinguish x64 from Arm64 when using a catalog download.
Do not choose KB5127646 simply because it is a different number: that package is for Windows 11 26H1. KB5127648 is the package for 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2.

Other issues tied to the October updates
Microsoft also lists resolutions for selected earlier problems in these October cumulative updates. The release information includes fixes for crashes in applications that use AC-3 audio and for certain failures that could leave the screen black or prevent the desktop from loading. These are separate fixes from the gaming-input change and may affect different software or hardware combinations.
Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro support status
Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro reached the end of their update lifecycle with the October 2026 monthly security update. If a device is still on one of those editions, moving to a supported Windows 11 release is important for receiving future security and quality updates. The end-of-updates status is a servicing-lifecycle issue, not a reason to expect the gaming fix to work differently on the October package itself.

If mouse stutter continues after installing the KB
First verify that Windows reports the update as installed and that the PC was restarted. Then isolate causes that Microsoft’s release note does not specifically cover:
- Install any pending patch for the affected game and test another title to determine whether the symptom is game-specific.
- Update the graphics driver from the GPU manufacturer and, if the problem began immediately after a driver change, test the manufacturer’s supported rollback option.
- Check the mouse manufacturer’s firmware and polling-rate settings. Temporarily testing a lower polling rate can help identify an interaction, but it is not Microsoft’s documented fix.
- Try a different USB port, preferably one connected directly to the PC rather than through an unpowered hub.
- Temporarily close overlays, capture tools, RGB utilities and other background software that injects into games.
- Compare wired and wireless operation, and replace or recharge the battery in a wireless mouse before treating the Windows update as unsuccessful.
These checks are general troubleshooting possibilities. Microsoft has not stated that any particular game, peripheral or background application causes the issue covered by KB5127648 or KB5127646.
