If you mean the clock beside the taskbar’s notification area, turn it on at Settings > Time & language > Date & time using Show time and date in the System tray. If you mean the time attached to a particular alert, open Notification Center and expand that notification when it has an arrow beside its time. Windows documents these as taskbar and notification controls; it does not document a separate permanent clock inside the notification list.
Open Notification Center in Windows 11
Select the taskbar clock or notification-bell icon, or press Windows key+N. On a touch device, swipe in from the screen edge. Microsoft describes the calendar and notification area as a way to access both the calendar and Notification Center (Customize the Taskbar in Windows).
Show the taskbar clock and date
- Open Start > Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
- Turn on Show time and date in the System tray.
You can also right-click the taskbar clock and select Adjust date and time to open the relevant settings (Set time, date, and time zone settings in Windows). If your Settings page uses different wording, use that taskbar shortcut; labels can vary by Windows 11 build.

In Date & time settings, turn on Show seconds in system tray clock. Microsoft notes that displaying seconds uses more power, but does not quantify the additional consumption (Customize the Taskbar in Windows).

See the time on an individual notification
Open Notification Center. When a notification has an arrow beside its time, select the arrow to expand the alert and view additional details or actions. The notification timestamp belongs to that alert; it is separate from the system clock in the taskbar (Notifications and Do Not Disturb in Windows).
Why there may not be a clock inside the notification list
Microsoft’s Windows guidance covers the taskbar clock and timestamps on individual notifications, but does not describe a setting for a dedicated, always-visible clock within the Notification Center panel. A clock hidden from the taskbar is restored through the System tray setting, rather than through a panel-clock option. Microsoft’s September 26, 2023 configuration-update notes discuss hiding the time and date in the system tray, but rollout notes do not establish identical labels across every Windows 11 build (September 26, 2023—Windows configuration update).
