“Mouse indicator” can mean several different things in Windows 11. For a larger or higher-contrast pointer, use Accessibility settings; for a trail that follows movement, use Mouse Properties; for a highlight when you click, turn on Mouse Highlighter in Microsoft PowerToys. These features signal different events, so choose the one that matches what you want to make visible.
Which mouse indicator do you need?

Make the mouse pointer easier to see
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
- Adjust the pointer size and select a pointer style or color that stands out against your screen.
These built-in controls change the pointer’s appearance; they do not add a separate highlight when you click. See Microsoft’s Make Windows easier to see and Change mouse settings guides.
Show a trail as the pointer moves
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings.
- In Mouse Properties, select the Pointer Options tab.
- Enable Display pointer trails, then apply the change.
Trails help you follow movement across the screen; they do not mark mouse clicks. Microsoft describes their purpose as helping you see where the pointer is moving.

Highlight mouse clicks with PowerToys
To make button clicks visible—for example, while presenting or recording a demonstration—use the optional Microsoft PowerToys utility called Mouse Highlighter. It is separate from Windows’ built-in pointer settings.

- Open PowerToys settings and select Mouse Utilities.
- Enable Mouse Highlighter.
- Use the activation shortcut to toggle the highlight. Microsoft documents Win+Shift+H as the default shortcut.
Mouse Highlighter includes settings for activation, colors, and highlight mode. The controls and available modes may vary by PowerToys release, so check the options displayed in your installed version. See Microsoft Learn’s Mouse Utilities in PowerToys for Windows and its PowerToys overview.
Touch indicator is for touchscreen input
The Touch indicator option is for visual feedback when you touch a touchscreen. Find it under Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch. It is not a mouse-click highlighter.

What if you mean a newer Windows “mouse indicator” setting?
A Windows Central report about Windows 11 25H2 mentions a Settings page with a mouse indicator and pointer-trail controls. Microsoft’s support guidance confirms the established pointer, trail, and touch settings, but does not establish that this newer page is available on every Windows 11 build. If you do not see a control labeled “mouse indicator,” use the relevant built-in route above or PowerToys for click feedback rather than assuming your installation is missing a universal feature.
