On Windows 11 SE, Desktop Stickers are enabled from Settings > Personalization > Background > Add stickers, or by right-clicking the desktop and choosing Add or edit stickers. Microsoft documents that workflow for Windows 11 SE, version 22H2 and later. On Home, Pro, Enterprise, and other editions, Microsoft documents an EnableStickers device policy but does not provide a universal consumer setup procedure; registry instructions found elsewhere are unofficial and may not work on your build.
What Desktop Stickers are—and where Microsoft supports them
Desktop Stickers are digital illustrations placed on the Windows desktop background. They are not shortcut icons, files, widgets, or physical stickers. Microsoft describes the Windows 11 SE feature as a way for students to decorate the desktop with digital stickers. In Windows 11 SE version 22H2, Microsoft says the picker contains more than 500 cheerful, education-friendly stickers. You can arrange them over the desktop image, resize them, remove them, and keep them when you change the background.
The important qualification is edition support. Microsoft’s published, user-facing instructions are specifically for Windows 11 SE. The standard Windows 11 background help page explains how to change wallpapers but does not document a general Desktop Stickers activation flow for every Windows 11 edition. Therefore, a missing Add stickers command on a Home or Pro computer does not necessarily indicate a damaged installation; the feature may simply be unavailable or controlled by policy on that edition and build.

- Open Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Read Windows specifications for the edition, version, and OS build.
Microsoft’s Sticker policy documentation applies to Windows 11 version 22H2, build 22621, and later. That policy reference is not the same as a promise that every edition exposes the editor in its Settings app. Treat the edition, build, and management status as three separate checks.
- Windows 11 SE: use Microsoft’s Settings or desktop context-menu instructions below.
- Another Windows 11 edition: look for the documented policy only in an administrative or managed environment. Any registry workaround is third-party guidance, not a Microsoft-supported universal procedure.
- Managed school or work device: ask the administrator before changing device policy or registry values. A management service can overwrite local changes.
Enable and add stickers in Windows 11 SE
Windows 11 SE is the edition for which Microsoft provides a complete consumer-facing procedure. The editor is available from either the Background settings page or the desktop’s right-click menu.
Method 1: use Settings
- Open Settings from the Start menu or with the
Windowskey and the Settings shortcut. - Go to Personalization > Background.
- Select Add stickers. Windows opens the sticker picker and editing surface.
- Choose a sticker from the available collection. Repeat this step for each sticker you want on the background.
- Drag a sticker to place it. Use the on-screen resize control to make it larger or smaller.
- To remove one, select it and choose the delete control shown by the editor.
- When the arrangement is ready, select the X at the top of the screen. Microsoft identifies that control as the way to save and close the editor.
Method 2: use the desktop context menu
- Show the Windows desktop and right-click an empty area.
- Select Add or edit stickers.
- Pick stickers, move and resize them, or delete unwanted ones.
- Select the X at the top of the editor to save and exit.
The two methods open the same editing experience. Use Settings when you are already changing wallpaper options; use the context menu when you want the quickest route from the desktop.

Moving and resizing
After selecting a sticker, drag it to the desired position on the desktop background. Resize it with the editor’s resize control rather than trying to change the image file itself; stickers are managed objects in the editor, not independent pictures stored in a folder.
Deleting a sticker
Select the sticker you no longer want and use the delete command displayed by the editor. Deleting an item from the arrangement does not uninstall the feature or remove the rest of the collection.

- WINDOWS 10 & 11 COMPATIBLE: Made for PC laptops and desktop computers running Windows 11 and Windows 10, covering hotkeys that work across both versions – ideal for students, professionals, and new PC users.
- ORGANIZED, EASY TO SCAN: Clearly grouped sections – Essentials, Quick Access, Screenshots, Window Management, Virtual Desktops, Accessibility and System – so you find the shortcut you need in seconds.
- CLEAR, READABLE DESIGN: Color-coded layout with bold, legible text in a compact size that fits neatly on your laptop palm rest, beside the trackpad, or on your desk.
- DURABLE & THOUGHTFUL GIFT: Premium laminated finish resists smudges and daily wear, applies smoothly to flat surfaces, and makes a practical gift for coworkers, students, gamers and anyone learning Windows.
Saving the arrangement
Close the editor with the X at the top. Microsoft says the stickers remain when the background changes, so selecting a new wallpaper does not automatically erase the arrangement. If you want a completely clean desktop, reopen Add or edit stickers and delete the objects individually.
What to do when “Add stickers” is missing
Use this checklist before attempting an unofficial change:
- Confirm that About identifies the edition as Windows 11 SE rather than Home, Pro, Enterprise, or another edition.
- Check that the version is at least 22H2. Microsoft’s documented SE feature begins with version 22H2.
- Try both entry points: Settings > Personalization > Background and the desktop right-click menu.
- Sign in with the account normally used on the device and check whether school management policies restrict personalization.
- Install the Windows updates approved for the device, then check the two paths again. Do not infer that an update will add the feature to an unsupported edition.
If the device is managed by a school, organization, or family administrator, the absence of the command may be intentional. Ask the administrator to verify the device policy instead of editing protected settings yourself.
How the EnableStickers policy relates to other Windows 11 editions
Microsoft’s Policy CSP reference lists a device-level setting named ./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/Stickers/EnableStickers. Its documented default is 0, which means disabled. The policy reference lists Windows 11 version 22H2 (build 22621) and later. The control is described as allowing stickers to be edited and placed on the desktop.
A policy definition is not the same as a consumer button. Microsoft’s reference tells administrators what the setting controls and its default value; it does not establish a single, supported Settings workflow for every Home, Pro, or Enterprise installation. Whether the editor appears can depend on edition, build, provisioning, and management configuration.

Unofficial registry method: understand the risk before trying it
Third-party instructions describe exposing the feature by creating or editing this value:
Recommended Free Tools
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdeviceStickersEnableStickers
The value is a DWORD (32-bit) named EnableStickers, set to 1. This is not Microsoft’s general consumer procedure. The source describing it is an independent how-to, and the available evidence does not guarantee that the editor will work on a particular current build or edition.
Precautions
- Use an administrator account only if you are authorized to change the device.
- Create a restore point before editing the registry.
- Back up the registry, or at minimum export the key you will change, so the original state can be restored.
- Record the existing value and type before changing anything.
- Do not use this method on a school or work computer without administrator approval.
Registry procedure described by third-party guidance
- Open Registry Editor by searching for it from Start, and approve the security prompt only if you have permission.
- Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdeviceStickers. If theStickerskey does not exist, the third-party instructions call for creating it underdevice. - Create or select the DWORD (32-bit) value named
EnableStickers. - Set its value data to
1. - Close Registry Editor and check the desktop and Background settings for the editor. If it does not appear, restore the backup rather than repeatedly changing unrelated policy keys.
There is no Microsoft guarantee that this sequence enables Desktop Stickers on Home, Pro, Enterprise, or any other non-SE edition. A device-management service may also reset the value. If the change causes unexpected behavior, use the restore point or imported registry backup and contact the device administrator.
Managed devices: use policy administration instead of local hacks
The EnableStickers entry is explicitly a device-level policy. On managed hardware, the correct owner of that setting is usually the administrator who provisions Windows policies, not the individual user. Ask whether the organization permits desktop personalization and whether its management profile sets the value to disabled.
An administrator evaluating the feature should verify all of the following before enabling it:

- Users understand that a policy change can be reversed centrally.
Do not treat a local registry value as proof that the feature is supported, secure, or maintainable in an organization.
Windows 11 SE lifecycle matters in 2026
Microsoft says support for Windows 11 SE ends in October 2026 and that no feature update will follow version 24H2. That timing is relevant if you are planning a school-device rollout around Desktop Stickers: the documented feature can be used on supported SE installations, but the edition has a stated end of support. Plan the operating-system transition with the device administrator rather than assuming a future SE release will add new sticker capabilities.

The desktop menu has no “Add or edit stickers” command
First verify the edition and version. The command is documented for Windows 11 SE, beginning with version 22H2. On another edition, its absence is consistent with Microsoft’s lack of a universal consumer setup flow. Check with the administrator if the device is managed.
“Add stickers” appears, but the picker will not open
Close Settings, reopen the Background page, and try the desktop context-menu route. If both fail, record the edition, version, and build and ask the device administrator or Microsoft support channel applicable to that installation. Avoid random registry changes when the documented SE path is already present.

Stickers disappear after changing wallpaper
Microsoft says stickers are retained when the background changes. Reopen Add or edit stickers to check whether they are merely hidden or were deleted from the arrangement. If the objects are absent on a managed device, ask whether a policy or profile reset personalization settings.
Best Value
- This Shortcut Keyboard Sticker is made of high quality vinyl, scratch-resistant and highly water-resistant. No residual adhesive, easy to stick on the pc.
A registry change had no effect
The registry method is unofficial and edition/build dependent. Confirm that the value is a DWORD named exactly EnableStickers under the stated path, then undo the change if the editor still does not appear. Do not assume that setting the policy to 1 overrides edition restrictions or organizational management.
You cannot edit the registry
That restriction is often intentional. Standard users may not have permission to modify HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and managed devices can block the change. Contact the administrator instead of attempting to bypass the control.
How to remove Desktop Stickers completely from the desktop
- Open Settings > Personalization > Background > Add stickers, or right-click the desktop and choose Add or edit stickers on Windows 11 SE.
- Select each sticker in the arrangement.
- Use the editor’s delete control.
- Select the X at the top to save the empty arrangement and close the editor.
This removes the digital objects from the desktop without changing the wallpaper itself or uninstalling Windows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Desktop Stickers the same as desktop shortcuts?
No. They are decorative digital objects layered on the desktop background. They do not launch programs or represent files like shortcut icons.
Can I use the official Add stickers steps on Windows 11 Home or Pro?
Microsoft’s published step-by-step editor instructions are for Windows 11 SE. Home and Pro users may see different behavior, and Microsoft does not document one universal consumer activation procedure for those editions.
What does setting EnableStickers to 1 do?
Third-party guidance says it enables the DWORD policy value at the Stickers PolicyManager path. Microsoft documents the policy itself, but does not guarantee that this registry change exposes the editor on every edition or build.
Will changing my wallpaper delete the stickers?
Microsoft says stickers remain when the background changes on supported Windows 11 SE installations.
