Yes. An iPhone can update its clock automatically when daylight saving time begins or ends, provided automatic time setting is enabled. The phone uses its time zone to determine the correct date and time, then applies the local daylight-saving change when one exists.
The key setting is in Settings > General > Date & Time. On current iPhone software, the switch may be labeled Set Automatically or Set Time Automatically; Apple currently uses both labels in different documentation.
How to make sure your iPhone updates for daylight saving time
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then Date & Time.
- Turn on Set Automatically or Set Time Automatically.
- Make sure the iPhone is connected to the internet.
With this enabled, the iPhone sets the date and time according to its time zone. If that time zone observes daylight saving time, iOS should adjust the clock at the appropriate transition. You do not need to change the clock manually or enter a special code.
Check the setting that identifies your time zone
Automatic time setting works best when the iPhone is allowed to use its location to determine the local time zone. Check this separate setting:

- Go to Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- Scroll down and tap System Services.
- Turn on Setting Time Zone.
Turning on Location Services generally is not the whole check. The specific Setting Time Zone service under System Services is the option Apple identifies for location-based time-zone detection.
What to check if the clock does not change
If the expected daylight-saving adjustment did not happen, work through these checks in order.

Also check whether your carrier, country, or region supports automatic time setting. Apple notes that the option may not be available in some carrier configurations or locations.
Why “Set Automatically” may be unavailable
If the switch is dimmed or cannot be changed, the restriction may not be a time-zone problem. Apple identifies two possible causes:

- A Screen Time passcode is restricting changes.
- A corporate or school management profile has installed device restrictions.
On a managed iPhone, an administrator may need to change the restriction. If the phone belongs to a company or school, removing the profile yourself may not be appropriate or possible.
How to set the time zone manually
Manual selection is useful when automatic time setting is unavailable, the iPhone has no service, or its location-based time-zone detection is not working. The manual process is:
- Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
- Turn off Set Automatically or the equivalent automatic-setting option shown on your iPhone.
- Tap Time Zone and enter a city, or tap the displayed date and time to change them manually.
This is a fallback, not an automatic DST solution. If you leave automatic setting off and your selected region changes its clocks, you may need to correct the time yourself. Apple’s iPhone User Guide also notes that the time zone can be changed manually when Location Services is off or the iPhone has no service.

The 24-Hour Time option only changes the clock’s display format. It is found at Settings > General > Date & Time > 24-Hour Time.

For example, enabling it changes a display such as 2:00 PM to 14:00. It does not move the clock forward or backward and has no role in daylight-saving-time updates.
Can you force a DST update with a command?
No Apple-documented iPhone command, Terminal command, or dialer code forces a daylight-saving update. The supported controls are the automatic-setting and time-zone settings in the Settings app. If iPhone reports that updated time-zone information is available, restart the iPhone—and any paired Apple Watch—as Apple recommends.
One important limitation
Daylight saving time is determined by the time-zone rules for your location. Some regions do not observe it, while others may change or abolish their rules. An iPhone will not add an hour merely because a calendar date is associated with DST in another country. It needs the correct time zone and current time-zone information.
That is why enabling Location Services alone is not a complete fix. The reliable setup is an internet connection, automatic time enabled, the Setting Time Zone system service enabled, and current iOS software.

FAQ
Will my iPhone automatically change the clock for daylight saving time?
Yes, if automatic time setting is enabled and the iPhone has the correct time zone. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically or Set Time Automatically.
Does an iPhone need Location Services for daylight saving time?
The important option is Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone. Location Services being enabled generally is not sufficient if this specific system service is off.
Why is Set Automatically greyed out on my iPhone?
A Screen Time passcode or a corporate or school device-management profile may restrict the setting. Automatic time may also be unavailable with some carriers or in some countries and regions.
Does 24-Hour Time control daylight saving time?
No. 24-Hour Time only changes the display from a 12-hour format to a 24-hour format. It does not change the actual time or control DST.

What should I do if my iPhone shows the wrong time after a DST change?
Connect to the internet, enable automatic time, confirm Setting Time Zone is enabled under Location Services > System Services, install available iOS updates, and restart the iPhone. If Apple displays a message about updated time-zone information, restart any paired Apple Watch as well.
