Yes. Rockstar and Sony have announced Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5, including the original PS5. Sony also lists PS5 Pro as a platform and the U.S. PlayStation Store labels the game “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” but neither company has published GTA VI-specific resolution, frame-rate, image-quality or stability results. You do not need a PS5 Pro to meet the announced compatibility requirement.
The announced release date is November 19, 2026. The information below reflects official listings checked on October 13, 2026; platform details and store prices can change before launch.
What is officially confirmed?
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are the announced consoles
Rockstar’s platform information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for GTA VI. Sony’s game page specifies a PS5 release on November 19, 2026. You can verify the platform announcement in Rockstar’s platform, editions and versions support article and Sony’s GTA VI PS5 page.

The original PS5 is included
“PS5” in those announcements means the standard, original PlayStation 5 family hardware, not only the later PS5 Pro. Sony does not state that a Pro model is required, and Rockstar does not publish a separate minimum-specification tier that excludes the original console.

PS4 is not supported
Sony’s listing says GTA VI will not be playable on PS4. That excludes both the original PS4 and PS4 Pro. A PS5 version cannot be treated as a cross-generation release simply because earlier Grand Theft Auto games supported older consoles.
November 19, 2026 is the announced date
Sony gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. Until Rockstar or Sony announces a change, that is the date to use for planning a console purchase, a pre-order or time off for launch. As with any unreleased game, a date can still be revised.
What does “PS5 Pro Enhanced” mean?
The U.S. PlayStation Store product page identifies the standard edition with the exact platform label “PS5 Standard Edition PS5 Pro Enhanced.” The label confirms that Sony recognizes a Pro designation for the product; it does not describe the technical change delivered by GTA VI.
Recommended Free Tools
In particular, the label does not establish any of the following:
- A 60-frame-per-second mode
- A specific output resolution, such as native 4K
- Higher-quality textures, denser traffic or longer draw distance
- Ray-tracing features enabled only on Pro
- A choice between quality and performance modes
- More stable frame times or fewer drops
Those details must come from a GTA VI-specific announcement, a final product page, an update note or launch testing. Inferring them from the word “Enhanced” would turn a platform label into a performance promise that the official sources do not make.
General PS5 Pro hardware is not the same as a GTA VI result
Sony describes PS5 Pro generally as having an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Sony also says that Pro enhancements vary by game. Those are system capabilities, not measurements of GTA VI. A game can use one, several or none of those techniques, and the visual or performance outcome depends on the developer’s implementation.
Likewise, Sony’s statement that GTA VI will “play best on PS5” is platform-holder marketing language. Mary Yee, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president of marketing, wrote that the game will use PS5 immersive features for a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19. That statement does not identify a Pro-only mode or establish that the original PS5 is inferior in a quantified way. Read the attributed statement in the PlayStation Blog announcement.

Original PS5 versus PS5 Pro: what can you compare today?
The useful comparison is limited to facts that have actually been published. The GTA VI-specific performance cells remain open.
| Question | Original PS5 | PS5 Pro | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Will GTA VI run? | Yes; PS5 is an announced platform. | Yes; Sony lists PS5 Pro and the Store uses a Pro Enhanced label. | Both consoles are supported platforms. |
| Release date | November 19, 2026 (Sony listing) | November 19, 2026 (Sony listing) | No separate Pro launch date is stated. |
| Resolution or graphics modes | Not stated for GTA VI. | Not stated for GTA VI. | Do not assume 4K, a quality mode or a performance mode. |
| Frame-rate target | Not stated for GTA VI. | Not stated for GTA VI. | No official 30-fps or 60-fps claim is available. |
| Ray tracing or PSSR use | Not stated for GTA VI. | Not stated for GTA VI; Sony describes these as general Pro capabilities. | System features do not prove a game-specific implementation. |
| PS4 compatibility | Not applicable to PS5 hardware; the game is not a PS4 release. | Not applicable. | Sony says PS4 is excluded. |
This table is intentionally conservative: “not stated” means the official GTA VI material available on October 13, 2026 does not supply the value. It is not a prediction that the feature will be absent.
Is a PS5 Pro worth buying specifically for GTA VI?
If you already own an original PS5
Do not buy a Pro merely to make GTA VI run. Your existing console is an announced platform, so an upgrade is not part of the stated compatibility requirement. An upgrade could become attractive if Rockstar later documents a substantial Pro-only image or performance mode and that difference matters to you, but that information has not been published.
If you are buying your first PS5
Both models satisfy the known GTA VI requirement. Make the decision in this order:

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match- Confirm the current hardware price in your region. Sony’s U.S. store listing showed the GTA VI Standard Edition at $79.99 when checked, but that is a region-specific, volatile game price and says nothing about console pricing.
- Decide whether you want Pro features across your other games. The upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and PSSR may matter for a wider library, but Sony says enhancements vary by title.
- Look for GTA VI-specific technical details before paying a premium. Check Rockstar and PlayStation product pages for named resolution modes, frame-rate targets, image-quality settings and stability notes.
- Match the console to your display and priorities. A high-refresh or large 4K display may make a documented enhancement more visible, while a buyer focused on simply playing GTA VI has no announced reason to exclude the standard PS5.
If you are replacing a failing or older console
Choose a supported PS5 model based on warranty, storage, price and the games you play now. GTA VI compatibility is shared by the standard PS5 and Pro; it should not be used as a reason to keep an unreliable PS4, because PS4 is not supported.
Which PS5 features will GTA VI use?
Sony highlights several PS5 capabilities for the game:
- DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers: the controller can provide varied vibration and trigger resistance. Sony describes these as planned PS5 features, not as independent test results.
- Tempest 3D AudioTech: Sony says the PS5 audio system will contribute to the experience with compatible audio equipment and settings.
- PS5 SSD: the console’s solid-state storage is part of Sony’s platform description and is intended to support the PS5 version’s loading and streaming behavior.
These features are available on the original PS5 as part of the platform. Their presence does not imply that the Pro has exclusive access to them, nor does it reveal a frame-rate or resolution advantage.

What should you check when launch details arrive?
Before deciding that a Pro upgrade is worthwhile, look for concrete, game-specific information rather than the badge alone. Use this checklist:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Does Rockstar name separate Fidelity, Performance or other graphics modes?
- What resolution is rendered internally, and what output resolutions are supported?
- Is the frame-rate target 30, 40, 60 or variable, and under what conditions?
- Are ray tracing, PSSR or other reconstruction features explicitly assigned to Pro?
- Does the standard PS5 retain the same modes, or does Pro add a new mode?
- Are comparisons measured in the final game after the day-one patch?
- Do independent tests report frame-time stability rather than quoting a peak frame rate?
Until those questions have documented answers, “PS5 Pro Enhanced” is best treated as a compatibility and certification label, not a buying specification.
Edition, box and controller details
The physical product may contain a code, not a disc
Rockstar says the physical version will be sold in a box containing a digital download code and that the box will not include a game disc. If you buy that version, you will need an internet connection to redeem and download the game, and the code’s region and redemption rules should match your account. Confirm the retailer’s current terms before purchase.
Standard Edition price is listed for the U.S. only
The U.S. PlayStation Store showed the Standard Edition at $79.99 when checked. This is a one-time listing observed in the United States, not a worldwide or permanent price. Taxes, currency conversion, regional editions and later price changes can produce a different amount.
A DualSense controller is a relevant accessory
Because Sony specifically highlights haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, a working DualSense controller is needed to experience those features. The controller does not change GTA VI compatibility: the original PS5 and PS5 Pro both support the PS5 version.
What is still unknown?
Official material available as of October 13, 2026 does not provide a GTA VI comparison between the original PS5 and PS5 Pro. The following items remain unpublished:
- Resolution targets and reconstruction methods on each console
- Frame-rate targets and frame-time behavior
- Whether Pro receives a separate graphics mode
- The exact use of ray tracing or PSSR in GTA VI
- Visual settings such as foliage, traffic density, reflections or draw distance by model
- Any measurable loading-time difference
That uncertainty is the reason a firm claim that Pro is “required,” guarantees 60 fps or delivers a specific visual upgrade would be unsupported. Recheck the Rockstar support page, the PlayStation game page and the U.S. PlayStation Store listing close to launch for changes.
