Which consoles will run GTA 6?

“Will it run?” should be read here as “Has Rockstar announced a version for this hardware?” It does not yet answer every technical question about resolution, frame-rate modes, visual settings, online features or download size. Those details require separate specifications, and Rockstar has not published them in the cited platform materials.
The FAQ does not provide a separate technical comparison between Series X and Series S. It does not state their respective resolution targets, frame rates, graphics modes, storage requirements, or feature differences. Do not assume that both Xbox models will deliver identical performance simply because Rockstar groups them under one platform name.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?
Rockstar’s current GTA 6 platform information does not list PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The earlier statements are historical milestones, not current launch guidance. The December 2023 date appears in Rockstar’s first-trailer announcement, and the May 2025 revision appears in Rockstar’s schedule update. The August 2026 announcement supersedes both for the currently announced date.
PS5 versus Xbox Series X|S: what can actually be compared?
Both console ecosystems are officially supported, so the most defensible choice is usually the system you already own. Your purchase must match that console’s store or redemption system, and a code bought for one platform should not be expected to activate on the other.

Rockstar has not published a supported-console performance comparison in the platform FAQ or release announcement. Wait for Rockstar’s technical specifications if those details matter to your purchase decision.
A console purchase is therefore not an automatic requirement. If you already have one of the three listed consoles, buy the matching game version. Rockstar also says Standard Edition owners can buy the upgrade through the PlayStation or Microsoft store after redeeming the Standard Edition code. That means the edition and the platform account remain connected: redeem the code on the account and console family you intend to use.
The FAQ does not give a complete itemized list of what the Ultimate Edition Upgrade contains, nor does it publish prices in the cited material. Check the live store page for the current price, regional currency and any additional bonus details before paying. Do not assume that an Ultimate purchase on PlayStation can be transferred to Xbox, or vice versa.
Does the physical version include a disc?
No. Rockstar describes the physical release as a boxed download code. “A disc will not be included in the box,” according to the support FAQ. You redeem the printed code to download the game; the physical packaging is not a game disc that can be inserted and played offline.

Rockstar says the physical version is offered to support pre-loading. Availability and the exact redemption process can vary by platform and country. Before buying, check the package description for the correct console and confirm that your internet connection and storage are ready for a digital download. A Series S owner, for example, cannot use a disc even when a retailer describes the product as a physical edition; the code must be redeemed digitally.

- Identify your console. Choose the PS5 version if you play on PlayStation 5. Choose the Xbox Series version if you play on Series X or Series S.
- Use the matching store or retailer listing. Rockstar lists PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Rockstar Store and select retailers as purchase channels, with availability dependent on country. The official pre-order details page contains the channel information.
- Check the edition name. Confirm whether the listing is Standard Edition or Ultimate Edition before paying.
- Check the region. Rockstar recommends buying and playing from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account. Code-redemption restrictions vary by region, so a cheaper imported code may fail to activate.
- Redeem on the intended account. Sign in to the PlayStation or Microsoft account that will own and play the game before entering the code. Keep the receipt and code packaging in case the retailer needs to investigate an activation problem.
- Start the download. For a boxed copy, redeem the code rather than looking for a disc. For a digital purchase, download it from the platform store’s library when it becomes available.
- Check launch updates. Even after the initial download, allow time for patches or updates before launch day. Rockstar has not published a final download size, so leave adequate free storage rather than relying on an unverified number.
Common compatibility mistakes and what to do
Buying a PS4 or Xbox One listing
PS4 and Xbox One are not among Rockstar’s currently listed GTA 6 platforms. Re-check the product title and platform badge before ordering. Do not rely on a retailer’s generic “PlayStation” or “Xbox” wording.

Assuming a platform purchase is cross-console
