As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA 6 (officially Grand Theft Auto VI) will let you customize radio stations, skip individual songs, import your own music, or build a custom station. Rockstar’s official music announcement previews six stations and promises the series’ broadest radio and podcast selection yet, but it does not describe any player-controlled playlist or song-skipping feature.
That means the honest answer is “unknown,” not yes or no. GTA V on PC provides a useful precedent through its Self Radio feature, but Rockstar has not said that GTA V’s controls will return in GTA VI. Any article, video or social post presenting customization or skipping as confirmed is getting ahead of the available information.

What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA 6 radio
Rockstar’s official GTA VI music page, published October 8, 2026, gives a preview rather than a complete technical description. It names six hand-picked stations:

The announcement says the game spans genres from classic rock to talk radio and has the “biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.” That is Rockstar’s description of the breadth of the audio lineup, not a numerical count of stations, songs or podcasts. The six named stations should therefore be treated as a preview, not the complete in-game list.

Most importantly, the page does not explain whether players can alter a station’s playlist, skip a song, disable a particular track, add local files, or create a station of their own. It also does not identify a radio-control menu, controller shortcut or accessibility setting for those actions. Rockstar has not ruled the features out; it simply has not confirmed them.
Can you skip songs in GTA 6?
There is currently no official confirmation that GTA VI includes a skip-song command. Rockstar’s announcement discusses the radio and podcast selection but does not mention next-track controls, a “skip” button, cycling through songs within a station, or a way to avoid a track permanently.
Do not confuse changing stations with skipping a song. Open-world Grand Theft Auto games traditionally let players move between stations, but switching stations is not proof that the current track can be advanced within the same station. Until Rockstar publishes a control guide or a launch build demonstrates the function, “Can you skip songs in GTA 6?” remains unanswered.

What would count as confirmation?
A feature would be confirmed if Rockstar documented it in an official manual, support article, gameplay demonstration, platform control guide or release version. A screenshot of a station selector would not, by itself, prove that individual tracks can be skipped. Likewise, a preview that names stations does not establish that their playlists are editable.

Can you make a custom radio station in GTA 6?
Rockstar has not announced a custom-station creator for GTA VI. There is no published information confirming support for user-provided music, a playlist editor, cloud playlists, local files, streaming services or a “my music” station.
This distinction matters because “custom radio” can mean several different things:
- Track skipping: moving to the next song while remaining on the same station.
- Track blocking: hiding songs you do not want to hear.
- Playlist editing: changing the order or selection of songs in an in-game station.
- User music: importing files stored on the player’s device.
- A custom station: combining personal files with DJ links, adverts or other radio programming.
None of these has been confirmed for GTA VI. The game’s official music announcement is about the included soundtrack and radio presentation, not about user control over that content.

GTA V offers the clearest Rockstar precedent, but it applies to GTA V and GTA Online on PC only. Rockstar Support’s guide, last updated April 30, 2024, documents Self Radio. Players can place supported, non-DRM MP3, WMA or M4A files in the game’s User Music folder and configure how Self Radio handles them.

Self Radio has three relevant modes, with different behavior:

The comparison explains why GTA VI customization sounds plausible to players who remember GTA V, while still being only a comparison. The documented feature depends on the PC version, supported file types and non-DRM files. It is not evidence that the console versions of GTA VI will accept local music, nor that GTA VI will reproduce the same modes.
How Self Radio works in GTA V
- Prepare supported, non-DRM MP3, WMA or M4A music files.
- Place those files in GTA V’s User Music folder as described by Rockstar Support.
- Open the game’s audio or radio settings and configure Self Radio.
- Choose Sequential, Shuffle or Radio mode.
- Use the game’s radio controls to move through tracks only when the selected mode supports skipping.
That procedure is useful if you are playing GTA V on PC now. It should not be presented as a GTA VI setup guide: Rockstar has not published an equivalent folder, file-format list or menu path for the new game.
Why the GTA V comparison has limits
GTA VI is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher announcement from June 24, 2026, gives November 19, 2026 as the announced release date and says a physical edition will be available through global retailers. Those platforms have different access to local files than a Windows PC, so a GTA V PC feature cannot be assumed to transfer unchanged.

Even if Rockstar adds a radio customization system, it could work differently. Possibilities include an in-game playlist editor, a limited “favorite tracks” list, a skip control without imported music, or no customization at all. Rockstar has not selected or described any of these options publicly.
The announced physical album, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, is a separate soundtrack product. Rockstar lists vinyl and CD pre-orders and says the album is coming November 19. The album’s reported 34 tracks refer to that album, not to the number of in-game songs or stations, and buying it would not provide radio controls inside the game.

If radio control is important to you, evaluate GTA VI in stages rather than treating speculation as a feature list.

- Look for an official Rockstar support article or control guide that explicitly mentions skipping, station editing or user music.
- Check whether Rockstar distinguishes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and any later platform version.
- Read the wording carefully: “wide-ranging selection” describes content variety, not customization.
- Do not use GTA V PC Self Radio instructions as proof of GTA VI functionality.
At launch
- Open the audio and controller settings and look for a documented next-track or station-management command.
- Test whether the command changes stations, skips within a station, or only moves through a playlist in a special mode.
- Check whether a radio option is available in both single-player and any online component; one mode’s behavior may not apply to the other.
- Confirm whether imported music is supported at all before attempting to locate a User Music folder.
After launch updates
Rockstar could add or change radio controls in a title update, but an update would need its own official documentation before it should be treated as established. A community discovery can be useful evidence of what a released build does, but it is not the same as a pre-release promise and may depend on platform, edition or update version.

Common misconceptions about GTA 6 radio
“Six named stations means there are only six.”
No. Rockstar has previewed six stations, while describing a broader radio and podcast offering. The announcement does not say that the six names are the complete lineup.
“The biggest selection means you can customize it.”
No. “Biggest and widest-ranging selection” is a statement about the scope of Rockstar’s included programming. It does not describe playlist controls, personal files or song skipping.
“GTA V has Self Radio, so GTA VI will have it.”
No. Self Radio is documented for GTA V and GTA Online on PC. Its existence makes a similar feature conceivable, but Rockstar has not carried that promise over to GTA VI.

No. The 34-track figure concerns Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. It is not a count of in-game songs or stations and does not answer how the game’s radio works.
Should you buy GTA 6 for customizable radio?
Not if customization or skipping is your deciding feature. Before November 19, 2026, Rockstar has not promised either function, so a purchase decision based on them would rely on speculation. The announced game is relevant to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners who want the new open-world title, but the purchase itself does not guarantee any particular radio control.
If you already enjoy Rockstar’s radio presentation, the confirmed information is more limited but clear: GTA VI is being promoted with six previewed stations and an unusually broad mix of radio and podcasts. Whether that content can be edited, skipped or supplemented with personal music must wait for an official feature description or the released game.
