No—Grand Theft Auto VI is not confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar’s official platform information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no Switch 2 version or release date. Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has also said Nintendo has nothing to announce and directed the question to Take-Two and Rockstar. That leaves a future port possible in principle, but it is not an announced product and should not be treated as one.
What is GTA 6’s current Switch 2 status?
The most accurate answer to “Will GTA 6 come to Switch 2?” is unconfirmed. Rockstar’s current GTA VI platform and editions support page names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 does not appear on that list, and the page provides no Switch 2 launch date.
The wording matters. Nintendo has not publicly ruled out a version, and Rockstar has not announced that one is in development. Until Take-Two or Rockstar publishes a platform announcement, any claim that GTA VI is definitely coming—or definitely impossible—goes beyond the available evidence.

Rockstar’s support information is the clearest current reference for supported consoles. It identifies the two Xbox Series models and PlayStation 5 as the console platforms for the editions and launch information it currently provides. Switch 2 is absent. An absent platform on a current support page is not a cancellation statement, but it does mean there is no official support confirmation to rely on today.

What Nintendo’s president said
In a Variety interview reported by MeriStation on October 10, 2026, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard responded to the GTA VI question in Spanish: “Esa es una conversación para Take-Two y Rockstar. Yo no tengo nada que anunciar por mi parte.” The reported translation is: “That’s a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar. I have nothing to announce on my end.”
That answer points responsibility to the publisher and developer. It does not say Nintendo rejected the game, that a port was canceled, or that negotiations are taking place. It simply confirms that Nintendo had no announcement at the time of the interview.
What is officially known about GTA VI
Confirmed console alternatives
If you want to play GTA VI on a platform Rockstar currently names, the choices are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only console options identified in the reviewed official platform information. A buyer choosing between them should base the decision on an existing game library, preferred digital store and online ecosystem, budget, and the hardware variant they want—not on an expectation that Switch 2 support will appear later.
| Platform | Status in Rockstar’s current support information | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Officially listed | A currently confirmed console platform for GTA VI |
| Xbox Series X|S | Officially listed | Currently confirmed; choose between Series X and Series S according to your budget and hardware preference |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Not listed | No confirmed version, launch date, or purchasing assurance |
Setting and official game information
Rockstar’s official game page describes GTA VI as taking place in Leonida, including Vice City. That setting information confirms the game’s fictional world, not the hardware on which it will run. The same page links to official merchandise and a Collector’s Box; those products are fan items and are not evidence of a Nintendo edition.
Physical editions and download codes
Rockstar’s support page says the physical edition is a box containing a download code and explicitly says it will not include a disc. This is a detail about the edition and launch logistics for the platforms Rockstar supports. It does not indicate that a Switch 2 package exists. Packaging, pre-order listings, and retailer placeholders should not be treated as a platform announcement unless Rockstar or Take-Two confirms them.

Does Switch 2 hardware make a GTA VI port likely?
Nintendo’s published Switch 2 specifications provide useful context, but they cannot answer the release question. The system has a custom NVIDIA processor, 256 GB of internal storage, and a 7.9-inch screen with a 1920×1080 resolution. Nintendo estimates battery life at approximately 2 to 6.5 hours, depending on the game.
| Switch 2 specification | Published figure | What it does—and does not—tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Custom NVIDIA processor | Identifies the system architecture; it does not confirm a GTA VI port or expected performance |
| Internal storage | 256 GB | States the built-in capacity; it does not establish the eventual size of a GTA VI installation |
| Built-in display | 7.9 inches, 1920×1080 | Describes the screen; it does not show what resolution or frame rate a specific port would use |
| Estimated battery life | Approximately 2–6.5 hours, depending on the game | Nintendo’s estimate for device use; it is not a GTA VI battery test |
A successful port depends on a publisher’s technical targets, development resources, business plans, certification, storage requirements, and the performance profile the developer is willing to support. None of those decisions is established by a processor name, storage figure, screen resolution, or battery estimate. The specifications therefore support neither “Switch 2 definitely can run GTA VI” nor “Switch 2 definitely cannot run it.”

Storage is especially easy to overinterpret. A 256 GB system may have less usable space after system software and other games, while the eventual GTA VI package size has not been stated in the information available here. Do not reserve space, buy a memory card, or purchase the console specifically for this game on the assumption that a port will follow.
Do earlier GTA games on Nintendo prove anything?
No. Take-Two announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch in 2021, and earlier GTA titles have appeared on Nintendo hardware. Those releases demonstrate that GTA games have been published on Nintendo systems before. They do not establish that the much newer GTA VI will be ported to Switch 2.
Each release requires a separate technical and commercial decision. A compilation of earlier games, an older single title, and a new open-world release can have different memory demands, rendering requirements, online features, support obligations, and sales expectations. Historical availability is useful context, not confirmation.

Should you buy a Switch 2 expecting GTA VI?
No. Buy Switch 2 for the games and features Nintendo has actually announced, not as a guaranteed GTA VI machine. The current evidence does not provide a Switch 2 edition, a release window, a price, or a performance target for the game.
- If GTA VI on release is your priority: choose a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, the platforms Rockstar currently lists.
- If Nintendo’s first-party library and portable format are your priority: Switch 2 may still be a sensible purchase, but treat GTA VI as unconfirmed.
- If you already own a supported console: there is no platform-support reason to replace it with Switch 2 while the Nintendo version remains unannounced.
- If you are deciding between Xbox models: compare the Series X and Series S using your budget, display setup, storage needs, and preferred hardware configuration; both are named in Rockstar’s current platform information.
A retailer listing, social-media post, anonymous claim, or speculative hardware analysis cannot substitute for an announcement from Take-Two or Rockstar. Do not pay a premium or make a preorder decision based solely on an unverified listing.
How to check for a real Switch 2 announcement
Platform support can change after an initial announcement, so use a simple verification routine whenever a new claim appears:
- Check Rockstar’s GTA VI platform and editions support page. Look for Nintendo Switch 2 named alongside the existing platforms, rather than relying on a retailer’s platform field.
- Check Rockstar’s official GTA VI game page and Take-Two’s investor or news announcements. A genuine port announcement should identify the platform and provide clear release information or an official statement.
- Check Nintendo’s official news channels. Nintendo’s own announcement can confirm a Switch 2 edition, but the absence of a Nintendo post is not proof that a port has been canceled.
- Check the date on every page. Platform pages and edition details can be revised, so an old article or cached listing may no longer reflect the current position.
- Separate confirmation from prediction. A statement such as “under consideration,” “coming later,” or “not announced” has a different meaning from a dated product listing or a launch trailer.
What would count as confirmation?
A firm answer would require an official statement that names Nintendo Switch 2 as a GTA VI platform. The strongest confirmation would normally include the platform on Rockstar’s support or game page, a Take-Two or Rockstar announcement, and concrete edition or release details. Until that happens, the correct status remains “not confirmed.”
If Rockstar later adds Switch 2, the announcement should also clarify whether the version launches alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions or arrives later. It may specify digital and physical availability, required storage, feature differences, and whether online functions are included. None of those details is currently established for Switch 2.

GTA VI is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, not Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s president has said she has nothing to announce and directed the matter to Take-Two and Rockstar. Switch 2’s custom NVIDIA processor, 256 GB storage, 7.9-inch 1920×1080 display, and estimated 2–6.5-hour battery range are product specifications, not evidence of a port. Keep watching Rockstar and Take-Two for a formal platform announcement, and do not buy Switch 2 with GTA VI support assumed.
