There is no confirmed answer yet. As of October 13, 2026, Bungie has not announced whether Destiny 2 characters, gear, achievements, cosmetics, downloadable content, Season or Rewards Passes, Silver, or other purchases will carry into a future Destiny game. Bungie has said Destiny remains part of its future and that it is building new stories and games, but those statements do not define a transfer system.
Do not treat Destiny 2 Cross Save as evidence of sequel migration. Cross Save lets one Destiny 2 account be used across supported platforms; it does not merge accounts or establish that data and purchases will move into a separate game.

What Bungie has actually announced
Bungie’s official statements establish continued investment in the Destiny universe, not a technical or commercial carryover promise.
Destiny has a future, but no transfer policy
In The Next Chapter for Bungie, Bungie says, “All of this is to say, we are not done with Destiny.” The post describes more stories and worlds and says that restoring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids is a first step toward new stories and games. It does not name a future game’s account system, migration process, eligible items, or purchase treatment.
#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
That wording supports a narrow conclusion: Bungie intends to continue working with Destiny. It does not confirm a numbered sequel, a successor release date, or a rule that your existing Destiny 2 account will become the account for another game.
The May 2026 update also stopped short of a migration promise
Bungie’s Destiny 2: Every End is a New Beginning announcement said Bungie would begin incubating its next games and that June 9, 2026 would bring Destiny 2’s final planned live-service content update. It also said Destiny 2 would remain playable. Nothing in that announcement promises that Destiny 2 progression, licenses, currency, or purchases will be recognized by another game.
The phrase “final planned live-service content update” describes the planned update schedule, not the end of account access and not a data-export or migration deadline.

Update 9.7.0 is an update-status statement
Bungie’s Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 Support Guide says Destiny 2 has no planned content updates after Update 9.7.0, while allowing that a health or stability hotfix could still be necessary. This tells you how Bungie currently describes Destiny 2 support; it does not indicate that characters or purchases will be imported into an unannounced future title.
Why Cross Save does not answer the sequel question
Cross Save is easy to misunderstand because it makes Destiny 2 progress appear across platforms. Its scope is narrower than carrying progress into a new game.
Rank #2
- Online only and requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
- An incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
- Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.
- Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre and breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
What Cross Save actually does
According to Bungie’s Destiny 2: Cross Save Guide, you select one active Destiny 2 account and use that account’s characters across linked platforms. Cross Save does not merge multiple accounts. If two platforms have separate Destiny 2 characters, enabling the feature does not combine their inventories, triumphs, currencies, or histories into one larger profile.
That is an account-access feature inside Destiny 2. A future game could use the same Bungie account, a new profile, a one-time import, or no import at all. Cross Save documentation cannot tell you which design Bungie will choose.
Platform licensing is separate from account progress
The same guide says platform DLC licenses do not transfer between accounts. You need the relevant license on each platform where you want to access that downloadable content. Season Passes are bound to the first Destiny 2 account used after purchase. Those rules govern Destiny 2 account and platform relationships; they are not a promise about a different release.
How current Destiny 2 purchases work
“Purchases” is not one category. Bungie gives different treatment to DLC licenses, premium currency, and passes, so a future announcement would need to address each separately.
| Purchase or entitlement | Current Destiny 2 rule | What this means for a future game |
|---|---|---|
| DLC licenses, such as Beyond Light or Shadowkeep | Cross Save does not move a platform DLC license between accounts. The license is required on each platform where you want to use that DLC. | No future-game carryover has been announced; current platform licensing cannot be extrapolated to another release. |
| Silver | Bungie’s Destiny Silver Purchases Guide says Silver is bound to the Destiny account and Destiny release that purchased it and cannot be transferred or gifted to another account or release. Silver bought on an Active Account can be used only on the purchasing platform; items bought with Silver on that Active Account can be used on any platform. | These are Destiny 2 rules. Bungie has not said whether Silver, or items purchased with it, will exist or be recognized in another Destiny game. |
| Rewards Pass | Bungie’s FAQ for Rewards Pass Purchases says Rewards Passes can be shared across platforms on accounts with Cross Save enabled. | Platform sharing within Destiny 2 is not confirmation of cross-game sharing. |
| Season Pass | The Cross Save guide states that a Season Pass binds to the first Destiny 2 account used after purchase. | No rule has been published for a Season Pass in a future title, and the product may not use the same model. |
The practical distinction is important. An item earned by playing, an entitlement granted by a pass, a platform license, and a balance of premium currency can all be stored and validated differently. A single sentence saying “purchases transfer” would be insufficient unless Bungie specifies which of these classes it covers.

Which kinds of Destiny 2 progress are still unknown
No future-game edition or transfer option has been announced, so there is no confirmed value to compare for any of the categories below.
| Category | Status | Question a future policy would need to answer |
|---|---|---|
| Characters and class progression | Not announced | Would existing characters move, be recreated, or remain exclusive to Destiny 2? |
| Power level, gear, weapons, and armor | Not announced | Would items transfer directly, convert into a new system, or be represented only as history? |
| Triumphs, achievements, seals, and titles | Not announced | Would achievements unlock cosmetics, badges, or account status in the new game? |
| Cosmetics and collections | Not announced | Would ornaments, shaders, emblems, ships, sparrows, and other collectibles be imported? |
| Paid DLC and expansions | Not announced | Would ownership grant access, a discount, a commemorative item, or nothing in the new release? |
| Season Passes and Rewards Passes | Not announced | Would an unused or active pass remain valid, and on which account or platform? |
| Silver and other premium currency | Not announced | Would balances transfer, expire with Destiny 2, or be replaced by a new currency? |
Until Bungie publishes answers for these categories, any claim that “everything carries over” or “nothing carries over” goes beyond the available information.
How to evaluate a future Bungie announcement
If Bungie later describes a successor or another Destiny release, look for a policy that separates the following details rather than relying on a headline or community summary.
- Account identity: Check whether the new game uses the same Bungie account, a platform account, or a newly created profile. Confirm whether one account can be linked to multiple platforms and whether account linking has a deadline.
- Progress scope: Look for explicit wording about characters, campaigns, quests, triumphs, seals, titles, collections, and earned gear. “Progress” is too vague to establish that every category transfers.
- Paid entitlements: Verify each expansion, DLC license, Season Pass, Rewards Pass, preorder entitlement, and deluxe-edition item separately. An owned license may grant access, a cosmetic, or no benefit at all.
- Currency treatment: Find the specific rule for Silver or any replacement currency. Check whether balances, purchased items, and unspent pass rewards follow different rules.
- Platform and region limits: Confirm which console, PC, cloud, and regional accounts qualify. Current Destiny 2 Cross Save behavior shows why a platform-sharing rule can coexist with platform-specific licenses.
- Timing and one-time actions: Determine whether migration is automatic, requires an opt-in, or can be performed only once. Save screenshots or receipts if Bungie says proof of ownership will be needed.
- Exceptions and non-transferable items: Read the exclusions for vaulted content, discontinued currencies, consumables, promotional items, and purchases made on a different account.
The authoritative place to verify those details would be Bungie’s own announcement and support documentation. Community posts can explain a policy, but they should not replace the published eligibility rules.

Keep your account structure clear
Use the Bungie account that actually owns your Destiny 2 characters and purchases. Cross Save does not merge accounts, so moving between profiles now will not create a combined archive for a future game.

Record purchase ownership
Keep platform receipts and note which account bought DLC, Silver, Season Passes, or Rewards Passes. This is useful for present-day access and would make it easier to resolve an ownership question if Bungie later defines eligibility. Do not assume that a receipt guarantees a future entitlement; it only documents the original transaction.
Understand where you can play today
If you use Cross Save, verify that the active Destiny 2 account is the one you intend to use. Check DLC availability separately on each platform, because platform licenses may be required even when the same characters are visible everywhere.
Continue using Destiny 2 on its stated terms
Bungie said Destiny 2 would remain playable after the final planned live-service content update. You can therefore treat existing characters, gear, and purchases as Destiny 2 content under the current rules, rather than as deposits into a guaranteed successor account.
The answer in one sentence
Bungie has confirmed that Destiny will continue in some form, but as of October 13, 2026 it has not announced whether Destiny 2 progress or any category of purchase will carry over to its next Destiny game; Cross Save and current Destiny 2 purchase rules do not establish that outcome.
