For U.S. sellers, Amazon’s cited Trade-In information does not establish that CDs are accepted. Amazon does let sellers list music products in marketplace categories, but that is different from Amazon buying a collection directly. Before sending discs anywhere or creating listings, check the current Trade-In catalog or marketplace rules for the exact titles.
Does Amazon buy CDs directly in the United States?
The available U.S. Amazon Trade-In terms describe gift-card payment for accepted items and specify a valid return address in the contiguous United States. They do not name CDs as eligible. Amazon’s Trade-In overview focuses on old electronics, so these materials do not support treating Trade-In as a CD buyback program.
Check the current Trade-In catalog for the exact item before taking action. Do not ship CDs unless Amazon explicitly lists them as accepted under current terms.

That is a separate possibility. Amazon seller guidance identifies Music as including discs, while Amazon UK’s selling page explicitly includes CDs, cassettes, vinyl, and other sound recordings. Those category descriptions show that music media can be sold through Amazon marketplaces; they do not guarantee that every CD can be listed, that a particular title has an active listing, or that a U.S. seller is eligible.

Before listing, check the current rules for your marketplace and seller account. Work out likely net proceeds after applicable fees and postage, and account for the time needed to identify editions, create listings, package orders, and handle fulfillment. The cited sources do not establish current U.S. CD fees or typical sale prices.
Which Amazon route fits your collection?
| Route | What is established | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Trade-In | The cited U.S. terms describe gift-card payment for accepted items and a contiguous-U.S. return-address requirement. They do not establish CD eligibility. | Search the current Trade-In catalog for each exact item; do not send discs unless they are explicitly accepted. |
| Amazon Marketplace | Amazon seller information identifies music discs as a product category; Amazon UK explicitly names CDs among sound recordings. | Confirm current listing eligibility, seller-account requirements, fees, postage, competing offers, and expected net proceeds. |
| Amazon Japan CD buyback announcement | Amazon Japan announced a CD buyback service in July 2013 for eligible used CDs listed under that program. | Verify directly whether a service is available now in your country. The 2013 announcement does not establish current operation. |
How should you decide whether to list CDs one by one?
For common titles
Compare the likely amount left after fees and postage with the effort of listing and fulfilling individual orders. If the expected net proceeds do not justify the work, a marketplace listing may not be the most convenient route. The available sources do not establish a typical used-CD value, so base the decision on current listings and costs for your titles rather than a general estimate.

For unusual or potentially collectible editions
Identify the exact release before pricing it. Artist and album title alone may not distinguish editions, and the available sources do not verify prices for specific CDs. Check the edition details and current comparable offers before deciding how to sell; a category listing alone is not evidence of a particular disc’s value.

Is Amazon Resale the same as a CD buyback?
No. Amazon Resale refers to Amazon’s resale inventory of used, pre-owned, or open-box products. The cited explanation does not establish it as a consumer-facing route for selling a CD collection. Do not confuse Amazon Resale with a seller’s Marketplace listing or an accepted Trade-In offer.
