Often, yes—but a Fitbit bought in another country is not guaranteed to provide every feature in yours. Pairing depends on the exact model, your phone and operating system, and access to a Google Account. Services such as Google Wallet for Fitbit depend separately on your country, bank and device. Warranty and customer support can also follow the purchase region rather than where you live.
Use the checklist below before buying an imported Fitbit. It separates technical compatibility from regional services, sales availability and after-sales support.
What “works” means for an imported Fitbit
There are several different tests, and passing one does not prove that the others will pass:
- Pairing: your phone can discover and set up the tracker through the current Google Health app.
- Account access: you can sign in with the Google Account you intend to use and complete setup.
- Everyday functions: syncing, notifications and other device features operate with your phone and account.
- Local services: payments, subscriptions and other online features are available in your country and, where applicable, through your bank.
- After-sales support: the product is sold or supported where you live and the warranty covers an overseas purchase.
Fitbit’s Terms of Service, last updated February 27, 2026, explicitly state: “Fitbit Content and the Fitbit Service may change from time to time or vary by geographic location.” That is why a device that pairs successfully can still lack a local payment option or convenient warranty service. Read the Fitbit Terms of Service.

- COMPLETE ALL-IN-ONE-BUNDLE: Includes Fitbit Charge 6 Black/Obsidian, rapid USB charger, and a premium microfiber cleaning cloth, – everything you need to start tracking in style.
1. Check the exact phone and app requirements
Start with the phone you will use every day, not the country shown on the Fitbit box. Google’s current Google Health app setup guidance requires:
| Phone platform | Minimum requirement | Known compatibility warning |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Android 11 or higher | Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 6 and Huawei P20 Lite may have compatibility issues even when they meet the operating-system requirement. |
| iPhone | iOS 16.4 or higher | The setup page does not establish that every older iPhone model works; check the current app requirements on the phone you plan to use. |
These are the requirements presented for the Google Health app, so do not substitute an older Fitbit-app requirement from an outdated article. Confirm your phone’s operating-system version in its system settings, then compare it with the current Google Health app setup requirements. If your phone is one of the four named models, treat compatibility as uncertain and verify before purchasing rather than relying on its Android version.
What to do before ordering
- Write down the exact phone model and its Android or iOS version.
- Update the operating system if the manufacturer still provides an update.
- Check the Google Health app’s current listing and setup page on that phone.
- If the phone is a Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 6 or Huawei P20 Lite, choose a different supported phone for setup or obtain confirmation before buying.
2. Make sure your account can be used
Current setup requires a Google Account. Google says people who still use a Fitbit account need to move to a Google Account to access the Google Health app beginning May 19, 2026. This requirement applies regardless of whether the tracker was bought locally or imported.
Before opening the package, decide which Google Account will own the device. Sign in to that account on your phone and keep its recovery method available. If you are buying the Fitbit as a gift, the eventual user should have their own Google Account rather than sharing yours. Account migration and device pairing are separate from country-specific services: a successful sign-in does not make every local feature available. See Google’s setup guidance for the current account and app prerequisites.

3. Verify the local feature you actually care about
Import decisions usually hinge on one feature—most often contactless payments. Check that feature independently instead of treating “works with the app” as a complete compatibility test.
Google Wallet for Fitbit
Google Wallet for Fitbit requires all three of the following:
- a Fitbit device on Google’s supported-device list;
- a supported country or region; and
- a participating bank and card.
Charge 6 appears in Google’s supported Fitbit-device list. That identifies it as a model to investigate; it does not prove that your card or country qualifies. Use Google’s Tap to pay with your Fitbit device help page to check the supported-device list, country or region list and participating-bank list together.

- Confirm the exact model number, not just the product family name.
- Find that model in the supported Fitbit devices section.
- Check your residence in the supported-country or region section.
- Check the issuing bank and card in the participating-bank list.
- Only then assume that tap-to-pay setup is a realistic expectation.
If any one of those checks fails, the tracker may still sync and record activity, but the payment feature may not be available. A model sold in another country is not automatically a payment device in yours.

Other online services
Features delivered through Fitbit or Google servers can change or vary by geographic location under the Fitbit Terms of Service. Treat a service shown on an overseas product page as a feature to verify for your country, not as a universal promise. Historical changes to Fitbit.com sales also show why availability pages and service behavior should be checked separately.
4. Distinguish product sales from service and support availability
Google’s regional product page lists which devices are offered in particular countries. Charge 6 appears on that country-level availability list in multiple markets, but a sales listing is not a guarantee that every account, payment or warranty condition is identical there. Use the page to establish whether your chosen model is officially offered in your destination market, then check the feature-specific documentation for the services you need. See Google’s regional device and service list.
Google also records market changes on its Fitbit.com Updates page. In the European Union, Fitbit.com sales changes affected Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Slovakia. In the Asia-Pacific region, the listed markets were Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The update says support for devices already owned continued, while select retail partners continued sales in the affected EU markets. It does not say that every feature is identical in each country.
Two dates in that update are historical context rather than a current promise about every paid service:

For current purchasing and support decisions, check your country and model directly rather than generalizing from those historical dates. Read the Fitbit.com Updates page.
5. Check warranty and support before paying
Warranty coverage is purchase-region sensitive. Google advises: “If you bought it in a different country or region, check the warranty that came with your product.” Its warranty guidance also warns that if Google does not sell the product in your country or region, online or phone support may not be available there. Review Google’s Fitbit warranty guidance.
Ask the seller for the written warranty terms before ordering and save the invoice, serial number and shipping record. Check:

These practical terms can erase a price advantage even when the device itself pairs normally. A locally sold unit may be the safer choice if a small saving would not cover international return shipping, import charges or the inconvenience of sending the tracker abroad.

A complete pre-purchase checklist
Run these checks in order for the exact Fitbit model and your home country:
- Identify the model: record the full model name and any regional model or band designation shown by the seller.
- Check the phone: verify Android 11 or newer, or iOS 16.4 or newer, and screen out the four Android phones Google flags for possible compatibility issues.
- Prepare the account: confirm that you can use a Google Account; plan the Fitbit-account migration required for Google Health app access from May 19, 2026.
- Check the desired service: for Google Wallet, verify the device, country or region and participating bank separately.
- Check local sales status: look up the model on Google’s country-level availability page and distinguish official sales from a third-party import.
- Read the warranty: confirm where claims are handled and whether the purchase country limits support in your home country.
- Calculate the real cost: include taxes, delivery, possible return shipping and the value of local support before comparing the imported and local options.
Keep screenshots or saved copies of the country, bank and warranty pages you relied on. Regional lists and service rules can change, and the terms in force when you buy are the ones that matter for your decision.
What to expect after the Fitbit arrives
If pairing succeeds but a feature is missing
Pairing confirms that the phone and account can communicate with the tracker. It does not override country, bank or device restrictions. Recheck the feature’s official country and eligibility lists rather than repeatedly resetting the device.

If setup will not complete
Verify the phone operating system, install the current Google Health app, sign in with the intended Google Account and check whether the phone is one of the four models specifically flagged by Google. If those conditions are met and setup still fails, preserve the error message and contact the seller or the support channel available for the purchase region.
If tap to pay is unavailable
Check all three Google Wallet conditions again: supported Fitbit model, supported country or region and participating bank. Charge 6 being listed as a supported device satisfies only the first condition.
If you need a warranty claim
Use the warranty supplied with the product and the purchase-country guidance. If the product is not sold in your country, expect that local online or phone support may not be offered and ask the seller how an international claim will be handled.
How to choose between an imported and local purchase
| Decision factor | Question to answer | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Model and features | Is this exact model supported, and does it include the feature you need? | Different models can have different supported-service lists. |
| Phone and account | Does your phone meet the current Google Health app requirements, and can you use a Google Account? | Without setup compatibility, the tracker cannot be configured normally. |
| Payments | Are your country and issuing bank listed for Google Wallet for Fitbit? | Device support alone is insufficient. |
| Warranty and support | Where would you file a claim and send the device? | Purchase-region terms may limit local assistance. |
| Total landed cost | What remains after taxes, delivery and a possible international return? | A lower sticker price may not be the lower-risk purchase. |
Choose the imported option only after all five answers are favorable. Otherwise, a locally sold model—or a different model with the same core functions—can provide a more predictable ownership path.
