To activate Wi-Fi Calling, enable it in your phone’s settings, confirm your carrier’s emergency address if prompted, and check that your carrier supports the feature in your location. The setting uses your carrier’s calling service over Wi-Fi; it does not require a separate calling app.
Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on an iPhone

Open Settings and tap Cellular.

If you use Dual SIM, select the phone line you want to configure.

Tap Wi-Fi Calling, then turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

If prompted, enter or confirm the address for emergency services.

Apple’s iOS 26 Wi-Fi Calling guide says availability depends on the carrier and country or region. When the feature is available and active, “Wi-Fi” may appear after the carrier name in the status bar.
Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on Android

Open Settings and go to Network & internet > SIMs.

Select the carrier SIM you want to use.

Tap Wi-Fi calling and turn it on.

Complete any carrier setup prompts, including an emergency address if requested.
These are Google’s documented menu labels; manufacturer interfaces and Android versions can differ. Once enabled, place calls through the regular Phone app. The call screen may identify one as an “Internet Call” or “Wi-Fi calling.”

Why the Wi-Fi Calling setting may be missing
A missing toggle does not necessarily mean the phone is broken. Google notes that not all carriers support calls over Wi-Fi. Availability can also depend on the phone, carrier provisioning, and country or region.

Check with your carrier whether Wi-Fi Calling is supported for your exact phone, line, and current location.

Ask the carrier whether the feature must be enabled or reactivated on your account.

Restart the phone if the option is present but setup or calls are failing. Google recommends restarting or contacting the carrier to reactivate Wi-Fi Calling if problems persist.

A phone may disable Wi-Fi Calling when it detects a problem. If the setting remains unavailable, the carrier can confirm whether the device and account are eligible.
Emergency calls and your registered address
Keep the emergency-services address registered with your carrier accurate and current. Some carriers request it during setup as part of emergency routing: Verizon collects a U.S. address for 911 support, and T-Mobile asks for an E911 registered address when Wi-Fi Calling is first enabled.

Apple says emergency calls use cellular service when it is available. If cellular service is unavailable and Wi-Fi Calling is enabled, an emergency call may go over Wi-Fi. Location information from the phone may help responders, but a carrier may rely on the registered address instead; an inaccurate address can interfere with correct routing.
Apple advises that traditional cellular or fixed-line service is preferable for emergency calls and that Wi-Fi Calling should be a last resort. Do not treat the address prompt as proof that your precise location will always be available to emergency responders.
Charges, travel, and call continuity
Wi-Fi Calling is not guaranteed to be free. Charges and supported destinations depend on the carrier and may differ when calling internationally or while traveling. Confirm applicable fees, destination rules, and availability with your provider before relying on the feature away from home.

If Wi-Fi drops during an iPhone call, the phone may move the call to the carrier’s cellular network using VoLTE when that option is available and enabled. A handoff is not guaranteed on every phone or carrier. Check with your provider whether calls can continue on cellular when Wi-Fi is lost.
What Wi-Fi Calling needs—and what is not established
The documented setup requires a supported phone and carrier, an eligible line in a supported region, and a Wi-Fi connection. No universal Wi-Fi speed requirement, router specification, or reliability threshold is established in the cited Apple and Google setup guidance, so a specific minimum cannot be recommended from it.
