Your Summoners Greed team usually loses for one of three reasons: its main damage source cannot defeat enemies quickly enough, enemies are slipping through a weak lane, or a particular wave mechanic is invalidating the formation. Adding more monsters at random rarely fixes the underlying problem. Identify the exact failure, change one role or upgrade priority, and replay the same stage to measure whether that change worked.
The game’s official listing presents formation, elemental damage and crowd control as strategic systems. Community guides therefore favor a focused damage plan with support chosen for the stage, rather than leveling every monster equally. The examples below explain how to apply that principle without treating any named lineup as universally best.
First, find the exact reason the run fails
Do not redesign your roster from the defeat screen alone. Replay the stage or watch a failed run and record the first point at which the plan breaks. The stage and wave matter because a formation that handles ordinary enemies may fail against a later speed, health, elemental or composition change.

Write down the first failed wave, the enemy that caused it, and whether the failure was gradual or sudden. “I lose on wave 18” is useful; “the stage feels hard” is not specific enough to choose a role.

Build around one damage plan
A reliable formation has a job for every slot. The central idea from the recent stage-based guide is to make one monster—or one clearly defined damage source—the account’s primary carry, then spend resources on pieces that let that carry do its job. Equal leveling produces a team with several mediocre attackers but no source capable of finishing a threatening wave.

Use the role that solves the observed problem. Rarity by itself is not a reason to replace a lower-rarity monster that is correctly filling a needed role. A rare unit that does not address the failing wave can be less useful than an affordable support piece that keeps enemies in range.
How to fix a low-damage loss
1. Stop splitting upgrades across every monster
Choose the monster currently doing most of the meaningful work and make it the carry for this stage. Put the next available upgrades into that monster first. Then upgrade only the support pieces that increase its effective output or keep targets in its attack area. This creates a measurable plan: if the next replay reaches a later wave, the investment was relevant.

2. Confirm that the carry fits the current enemies
The official listing describes elemental damage as part of strategic play, and its update notes mention changes to elemental immunity and enemy composition. A carry that performed well on an older version or map may no longer be the right answer if the current enemies resist or invalidate its damage. Observe what happens in the current stage rather than relying on an old map recommendation.

3. Add amplification before adding a competing attacker
If the carry reaches enemies but misses the damage threshold, a support effect that improves that carry can be more efficient than placing another under-upgraded attacker. This is especially true when resources are limited. Test the carry with the support enabled, then replay the same wave so you can separate the effect of the support from normal run variation.
4. Test one change at a time
Changing the carry, its position, two supports and the upgrade order at once prevents you from learning what solved the problem. Make one targeted change, replay the identical stage, and note the first wave that changes. If the result is unchanged, keep the carry only if the evidence still supports it and investigate control, coverage or enemy mechanics next.
How to stop enemies leaking through
Use control to create damage time
When only a few enemies escape, the issue is often time rather than total team damage. Slowing or stunning a target can hold it inside the carry’s effective area long enough for the existing damage plan to finish it. Place control where the enemy actually escapes, not automatically beside the highest-rarity monster.

A formation can clear the center of a wave while leaving a side route exposed. Watch which path the first leak uses and assign backup coverage there. If the same lane fails repeatedly, a modest investment in that lane is more valuable than another upgrade to a position that already clears its targets.

Separate ordinary leaks from special enemies
If normal enemies are stopped but one named or unusually durable enemy passes every time, treat it as a mechanic problem. Check whether its behavior, immunity or composition is different in the current version. Control may be the correct answer even when adding damage appears tempting, because a resistant target can waste attacks that would otherwise clear the wave.
Choosing between practical lineup shapes
There is no tested head-to-head result establishing one universal lineup. The useful comparison is which shape addresses your failure, how well it fits the current wave, and what your account can afford to upgrade.

Evaluate each option on five questions: does it damage the current wave, does its support improve the carry, does it prevent the observed leak, does it fit the stage’s enemy behavior, and can your account afford the required upgrades? Those criteria are more reliable than choosing by rarity or copying a screenshot.
What to make of Mighty, Kevin and Speedy recommendations
A recent community beginner guide uses Mighty, Kevin and Speedy as an example of an early-account team, while another community guide recommends prioritizing Speedy and Mighty alongside a main damage dealer. These are examples, not guarantees. The guides do not establish that this trio is best for every map, version, star level or roster.

Use the example as a role template: identify which monster is carrying damage, which piece is improving that damage, and whether the remaining slot is providing control or coverage. If one of those monsters does not solve your current failure—or you do not own it at a useful level—substitute a monster that performs the needed role. A separate community setup guide describes a carry-and-stun arrangement; that shape is worth testing when leaks, rather than raw damage, are the reason for defeat.
Because the community material comes from posts and guides published in 2025, 2022 and a guide reviewed August 1, 2026, treat its named priorities as time- and roster-dependent advice. Verify the result in your current game instead of assuming an older recommendation survived balance changes.

The official App Store listing reports updates that adjusted difficulty and changed elemental immunity and enemy composition in maps. That matters whenever a guide tells you that a particular map is easy, that an enemy is vulnerable to a particular element, or that a fixed formation works through a named wave. Such statements can become stale after an update.

- Do not infer an immunity from an old guide if your current run shows damage landing normally—or failing unexpectedly.
- Retest a map-specific formation after a difficulty or composition update.
- Keep a flexible control or coverage option available if the new composition creates a leak.
The broad systems—formation, elemental damage and crowd control—remain useful decision categories, but the correct monster and position can change as maps and enemies change.

Use farming and retries deliberately
When a stage is narrowly out of reach, repeating an earlier stage to gather resources and upgrade the carry is a sensible response. The community beginner guide specifically suggests farming and upgrading when stuck. Farm only until the upgrade changes the observed failure; endlessly repeating a stage without changing the relevant role will not solve a control or coverage problem.
- Record the failing stage and wave.
- Farm a stage you can clear consistently.
- Spend the resulting resources on the carry or the support tied to the failure, rather than distributing them across the whole roster.
- Replay the original stage with the same formation and compare the first failed wave.
- If the failure is unchanged, stop buying raw damage and test control, coverage or a different damage interaction.
A repeatable troubleshooting procedure
- Capture the failure. Name the stage, wave, lane and enemy that first causes the loss.
- Classify it. Decide whether enemies are surviving too long, leaking through a route, or triggering a specific mechanic.
- Map roles. Label every monster as carry, amplification, control or backup coverage. Remove any slot whose role does not address the failure.
- Set the upgrade priority. Upgrade the carry first for a damage failure; upgrade the relevant control or coverage piece first for a leak.
- Check current interactions. Observe elemental resistance or immunity and enemy composition in the version you are playing.
- Change one variable. Replace or reposition one role, or apply one focused upgrade.
- Replay the identical stage. Compare the first failed wave, not just whether the final screen says victory.
- Iterate based on evidence. If damage improved but a fast enemy still escapes, retain the carry and add control. If control holds enemies but they remain alive, return resources to the damage plan.
Common mistakes that keep a team weak
- Leveling everyone equally: this leaves no monster strong enough to serve as a carry.
- Copying a named team without checking the failure: a carry-and-stun layout does not automatically fix a damage shortage, and a damage-heavy layout does not automatically fix a leak.
- Choosing by rarity alone: rarity does not prove that a unit supplies the role your stage needs.
- Changing the entire formation after every loss: without a controlled retry, you cannot tell which decision helped.
- Trusting old map advice: difficulty, immunity and enemy composition can change with updates.
- Ignoring affordability: a theoretically stronger lineup that you cannot upgrade may perform worse than a modest, focused team you can actually fund.
What information is needed for a precise lineup
A specific recommendation requires more than the stage name. Provide the exact stage and failing wave, your full owned roster, levels and stars, available charms or other relevant enhancements, and which monsters are currently upgraded. Also describe whether the loss is caused by enemies surviving, a lane leak or a particular enemy behavior.
Without those details, the most defensible advice is role-based: establish one carry, choose support that amplifies or protects it, add control where enemies leak, and verify elemental and enemy interactions in the current version. The stage, wave and roster determine which named monsters can actually fill those roles.
