If your Shark robot vacuum is not mapping correctly, start with the setup and the robot’s position: an interrupted first mapping run, moving the robot or dock, or obstacles that confuse navigation are plausible causes. The right steps depend on the model. For models that use an app-guided Explore Run, let the run finish with the robot and base in place, then address recurring obstacles and follow the model’s manual if the map still looks wrong.
First, identify what “not mapping” means
A missing first map, a map that does not match your home, poor route-following, and failure to return to the dock are different problems. Note which one you see, along with the robot’s model number. Shark’s support materials are organized by model, and instructions and app features can differ between robot families.
Find the model-specific manual or troubleshooting page through Shark’s official troubleshooting center. The steps below apply to the cited Matrix models and UK manual examples where specified; they are not a universal procedure for every Shark robot.

- Check the model instructions. Confirm whether your robot uses an app-guided Explore Run and follow the charging and mapping directions in its manual.
- Prepare the first run. For the Matrix 2-in-1 covered by Shark’s 2400WD Series manual, charge the robot fully before mapping so it can explore as much of the home as possible. Shark says charging may take up to six hours for that model family; this is not a general charging time for all Shark robots. Read the 2400WD Series manual.
- Run the app-directed Explore Run, if your model supports it. Allow it to complete without picking up or relocating the robot or base. The cited Matrix manual describes this as the initial map-making run, during which the robot identifies walls, furniture, and obstacles.
- Check the environment. Remove small obstructions where practical. Shark’s UK robot manual says the navigation system may bump into reflective objects, including glass cabinets, stainless-steel pet bowls, and chair legs. For recurring problem spots, use an in-app no-go zone if your model supports that feature. This advice addresses bumping; it does not establish that reflective objects necessarily create a malformed map. See the UK robot manual.
- If the map or docking remains wrong, use the exact model’s troubleshooting guidance. The cited instructions do not establish a universal factory-reset sequence or a common failed part, so do not assume a reset or replacement sensor is the right fix.
Why moving the robot or dock can disrupt navigation
A robot builds its route in relation to its surroundings and base. Shark’s Matrix manual warns that moving the robot during use can prevent it from following its intelligent cleaning path or finding the dock. It also warns that relocating the dock may make it difficult for the robot to return.

The cited UK manual says moving the base during the first mapping run affects mapping and that a moved base requires remapping. If you have relocated the base, check your model’s instructions for the remapping procedure rather than assuming the old map still describes the dock’s position. Keep both robot and base where they are during the mapping run.
When the map exists but the robot cannot find its base
For the RV2620WDUK series, Shark’s FAQ says the robot can be sent back to the base using the app or robot button when the base location is saved on the map. If you have this model, check whether the saved map shows the base in its current location and consult the RV2620WDUK FAQ for its controls. This app behavior is documented for that model family and should not be assumed for all Shark robots.

When to contact Shark support
Escalate through Shark’s model-specific support if an appropriate mapping run finishes but the map is still missing or clearly inaccurate, or if navigation problems continue after you have checked the robot’s and base’s positions and addressed persistent obstacles. Have the model number and a description of the symptom ready. Without a model-specific diagnosis, the cited guidance does not support replacing a navigation sensor, dock, or robot as a general remedy.
