If a Roomba Max 775 Combo leaves wet streaks, start with the PowerSpin roller-mop path: verify the pad is fitted, then clean the roller, scraper, edge clip, rubber strip and actuator. If dry debris remains, switch to the vacuum side and inspect the bin, filter, brushes, cleaning head and airflow path. A dock code changes the diagnosis: Error 756 points to a missing or incorrectly attached pad, while Error 450 indicates that the clean-water tank is missing or not seated. The steps below separate those problems so you can correct the cause before buying parts.
First identify which cleaning problem you have
“Streaks” and “debris left behind” are different failure patterns. Streaks usually involve the wet-cleaning assembly or the dock’s pad-washing process. Hair, crumbs or dust left on the floor point instead to the dry pickup system, although a saturated or obstructed wet roller can also move debris around.
| What you see | Start here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wet lines or dirty bands after mopping | PowerSpin Roller Mop, scraper, rubber strip and actuator | These parts control how water and residue are carried off the roller. |
| Pad-wash or pad-dry operation stops; dock shows Error 756 | Remove and reinstall the mop pad | iRobot says pad washing and drying cannot continue without an attached pad. |
| Error 450 at the dock | Clean-water tank | The code means the tank is missing; reseat it full. |
| Clumps of hair, crumbs or dust remain after a vacuum run | Bin, filter, brushes, cleaning head and airflow path | These are the pickup areas identified in iRobot’s related-family guidance. |
The pickup instructions cited here cover Roomba e, i and j series and Combo 10 Max models, not the Max 775 specifically. Treat those areas as a practical inspection checklist, and use the exact Max 775 instructions if a component’s shape or removal method differs.

Fix streaks by servicing the wet-cleaning path
1. Check that the mop pad is actually attached
Look for a dock warning or a pad-related Error 756 before disassembling anything. Remove the pad and refit it so it sits flat and is fully secured to its intended attachment surface. A pad that is folded, displaced or absent can stop the dock’s wash-and-dry cycle, leaving the roller in a poor condition for the next run. iRobot documents this condition in its Error 756, Roomba Max 700 Series Combo support article.

Run the robot again only after the pad is seated. If the warning returns immediately, do not compensate by adding more cleaning liquid; continue with the roller and dock checks below.
2. Remove the PowerSpin Roller Mop and scraper
Follow the Max 700 Series removal instructions for the PowerSpin Roller Mop and its scraper. Keep the pieces together while you work so that the scraper, roller and rubber strip return to their original positions. The aim is to expose the places where hair and dried residue prevent the roller from making an even pass across the floor.
Do not force a cover or actuator that is closed. iRobot’s procedure specifically cautions against forcing the cover open in that state. If the mechanism will not retract as described, stop and use the model’s support instructions rather than prying it.
3. Clear the edge clip and scraper area
Inspect behind and between the edge clip and scraper. Pull out hair, threads and compacted dirt by hand, taking care not to deform the clip or scraper edge. A small obstruction in this narrow channel can keep the scraper from contacting the roller evenly; the result may be a line of excess moisture or a dirty band along one side of the robot’s path.
Check both ends instead of cleaning only the visibly dirty side. Hair often winds around the edge where the roller meets its retaining hardware, so a quick wipe across the roller surface can miss the actual restriction.
4. Rinse beneath the rubber strip
Gently lift the indicated corner of the rubber strip, rinse residue from underneath, and reinstall the strip flat. Do not stretch it or leave a corner raised. Residue under the strip changes the seal and can let dirty water redistribute across the roller, which appears on the floor as repeated streaking.
Use the water-rinse step described by iRobot rather than introducing an unapproved solvent or household cleaner. The support procedure is designed to remove buildup without changing the strip’s fit.

5. Clean the actuator with the cover retracted
When the cover is retracted as directed, clean buildup from the actuator. The actuator is a specific cleaning target in iRobot’s Max 700 Series guidance; it is not the same as wiping the exposed roller. Remove residue gently, then reinstall the scraper and roller in the documented order.
After reassembly, verify that the rubber strip lies flat, the scraper is fully seated and the roller turns without visible hair caught at either end. If the cover is closed and will not retract through the normal procedure, do not force it open.
Replace the wet system only when cleaning or wear checks justify it
iRobot Support recommends replacing the PowerSpin Roller Mop Wet Cleaning System “every 6-12 months or as needed.” This is manufacturer maintenance guidance, not a published performance test or a guarantee that every Max 775 will need a replacement on that schedule. Replace sooner when the roller, scraper or related parts remain damaged, misshapen or unable to clean evenly after you remove buildup.
The interval is for the wet-cleaning system as a whole. Do not assume that a similarly named pad, roller or j-series replenishment kit is interchangeable. The retrieved iRobot replenishment listing is for Combo j7, j7+, j9+ and 10 Max robots and does not list the Max 775. Check the exact model compatibility and whether a listing contains the complete wet system or only a related component before ordering.

| Before ordering | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Model compatibility | The seller or iRobot listing explicitly names Roomba Max 775 or the applicable Max 700 Series part. |
| Scope of the part | Whether it is the complete PowerSpin Roller Mop Wet Cleaning System, a roller only, a pad only or another component. |
| Observed condition | Wear, cracking, deformation or persistent streaking after the cleaning procedure. |
| Return terms | That the part can be returned if the exact Max 775 fit is not confirmed. |
Do not use the j7+/j9+/Combo 10 Max replenishment kit as a Max 775 recommendation simply because the robots share a mopping concept. Its published compatibility list does not establish a fit for the 775. See the iRobot replenishment-kit listing for the models it names.
Resolve dock errors before changing the cleaning solution
Error 450: reseat the clean-water tank
On the Max 700 Series dock, Error 450 means the clean-water tank is missing. Remove the tank, fill it, and reinsert it securely so the dock recognizes it. A tank that is present but not fully seated can produce the same practical symptom as a missing tank.
Do not treat Error 450 as proof that the robot’s roller is worn. Restore the water-tank connection first, then run the cleaning cycle and reassess the floor. The applicable instructions are in iRobot’s Error 450 support article.

Use the concentrate reservoir only as designated
The Error 450 article specifically names Roomba Max 775 in its concentrate instructions: the concentrate reservoir is for StayClean Mopping Concentrate only. Other compatible solutions, when allowed by iRobot’s instructions, belong in the clean-water tank rather than the concentrate reservoir.

If the product label or current Max 775 instructions do not identify a solution as compatible, do not pour it into either reservoir. Incorrect chemistry can leave residue that recreates streaks even after the mechanical parts are clean.
For missed debris, inspect the dry pickup system
1. Empty and examine the bin
Remove the vacuum-side bin and check whether its inlet or internal space is packed with hair and dust. A bin can look partly empty while its entry channel is blocked. Clear compacted material and reinstall the bin fully so the airflow path seals as intended.
2. Check the filter and airflow path
Inspect the filter for a layer of fine dust that restricts airflow. Also look along the vacuum path for a plug of hair, paper or other debris. iRobot’s related poor-pickup guidance associates debris left behind with bin and filter condition, a blocked vacuum path and buildup. Because that article does not cover the Max 775, use its component areas as inspection targets and follow the 775-specific removal and cleaning directions for the actual parts.
Do not declare the motor defective until the bin, filter and path are clear. Reduced airflow can leave fine dust behind even when the brushes appear to be spinning.

3. Inspect the rubber brushes and bearings
Look for hair wrapped around the rubber brushes and at their bearings. Remove winding from both ends; cleaning only the center of a brush can leave enough resistance to reduce contact with the floor. Check for buildup that prevents a brush from turning freely or sitting correctly in the cleaning head.
If a brush is visibly damaged or no longer maintains its shape, identify the exact Max 775 replacement before purchasing. A part listed for another Roomba family is not evidence of compatibility.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
4. Check the cleaning head and its inlet
With the brushes removed according to the model instructions, inspect the cleaning head for a mat of debris or a lodged object. Clear the inlet and the spaces around the brush ends, then reinstall the brushes so each bearing and retaining point is seated. A partially installed brush can produce intermittent pickup and leave clumps even when the bin and filter are clean.
Use a controlled test run to separate remaining causes
- Test the wet system alone. After pad, roller, scraper, rubber-strip and actuator cleaning, run a short mopping cycle on a cleanable area. Look for a new, even pass rather than judging an old stain that was already on the floor.
- Test vacuum pickup separately. Once the bin, filter, brushes, cleaning head and airflow path are clear, run a vacuum-only cycle over a small amount of ordinary dry debris. Observe whether material is collected or pushed into clumps.
- Record the exact error. Note whether the dock reports Error 450 or Error 756, and whether the behavior occurs during washing, drying, mopping or vacuuming. The timing tells you which branch to revisit.
- Recheck installation. A flat pad, fully seated tank, correctly installed scraper and properly retained brushes are prerequisites for interpreting the result. If a part does not sit as designed, stop rather than forcing it.
This test does not create a manufacturer performance rating; it simply prevents a wet-system fault from being mistaken for a vacuum fault, or vice versa.
What to check before ordering anything
Part replacement is the last step, not the first. Write down the exact symptom, the cleaning mode in which it appears and any dock code. If the problem is only a wet streak, buying a vacuum brush will not address it. If the problem is dry debris, replacing the wet roller may add cost without improving pickup.
- Take a close look at the roller, scraper and rubber strip after cleaning. Look for deformation, cracking or a section that no longer lies flat.
- Confirm that the pad, clean-water tank, scraper and brushes are each seated in their intended positions. A component that is present but misaligned can mimic a failed part.
- Compare the product description with the robot’s exact model name. “Combo,” “10 Max” and “j-series” are not interchangeable compatibility statements.
- Check whether the listing is for a complete wet-cleaning system or only a pad, roller or other small component.
- Review the seller’s return terms, especially when the listing does not explicitly identify Max 775 compatibility.
There is no need to buy a replacement simply because the robot has reached a particular age. The six-to-twelve-month interval is iRobot’s recommendation for the PowerSpin Roller Mop Wet Cleaning System; visible wear or persistent uneven cleaning is the practical reason to move from cleaning to replacement.
Common mistakes that make streaks or missed debris worse
- Adding more solution to solve streaks. A dirty scraper, rubber strip or actuator will not be repaired by extra liquid, and excess residue can make the floor look worse.
- Forcing a closed cover. iRobot cautions against forcing the cover open when it is closed. Stop if the documented retraction step does not work normally.
- Cleaning only what is visible. Hair behind the edge clip, under the rubber strip or at a brush bearing can continue to interfere even when the exposed surface looks clean.
- Mixing parts from another family. A j7+, j9+ or Combo 10 Max replenishment listing does not establish compatibility with Max 775.
- Changing multiple variables at once. If you add a new solution, replace a brush and alter the pad at the same time, you lose the ability to identify what corrected or caused the symptom.
When the problem persists
- If streaks remain after the documented roller-path cleaning, inspect the scraper, rubber strip and roller for physical wear and consider the 6–12-month replacement guidance.
- If Error 756 returns, remove and refit the pad again and confirm that the dock can detect it before starting another wash or dry cycle.
- If Error 450 returns with a full, correctly seated tank, follow the Max 700 Series support flow rather than adding solution to a different reservoir.
- If debris remains after the dry pickup inspection, use the Max 775-specific instructions for any component whose construction differs from the related e, i, j or Combo 10 Max families.
- If you cannot confirm a replacement part’s Max 775 compatibility, do not install it solely because the product name includes “Combo,” “j-series” or “10 Max.”
There is no published Max 775 streaking or pickup success rate in the cited support material, so a claim that a cleaning step fixes a stated percentage of robots would be unsupported. The practical standard is whether the error clears and the next controlled run leaves an even wet pass or collects the test debris.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Roomba Max 775 leaving streaks even though the pad is attached?
Clean the PowerSpin Roller Mop, scraper, edge clip, underside of the rubber strip and actuator. Hair or dried residue in any of those areas can prevent an even roller pass. Reinstall the rubber strip flat and do not force a closed cover.

What does Error 756 mean on a Roomba Max 775 Combo?
It indicates a pad-installation problem in the Max 700 Series guidance. Remove and reattach the mop pad so it is flat and secure; pad washing and drying cannot continue without an attached pad.
What does Error 450 mean?
The dock is reporting that the clean-water tank is missing. Remove it, fill it and reseat it securely before changing the roller or adding solution.
Can I put any floor cleaner in the Max 775 concentrate reservoir?
No. iRobot’s Error 450 instructions specifically designate the concentrate reservoir for StayClean Mopping Concentrate only. Do not use arbitrary detergents, household cleaners or homemade mixtures.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →How often should the PowerSpin wet-cleaning system be replaced?
iRobot Support recommends replacement every 6–12 months or as needed. Treat that as manufacturer maintenance guidance, then consider the roller’s actual condition and whether streaks remain after cleaning.
Will a Combo j7, j9+ or 10 Max replenishment kit fit the Max 775?
Do not assume so. The retrieved iRobot listing names those j-series and 10 Max models but does not list Max 775. Verify exact compatibility and the included parts before ordering.
Why does my robot leave hair or crumbs after vacuuming?
Inspect the vacuum bin and inlet, filter, airflow path, rubber brushes, bearings and cleaning head for blockage or buildup. Those inspection areas come from related Roomba pickup guidance, so follow Max 775-specific removal instructions where construction differs.
The Bottom Line
For wet streaks, start with the pad and PowerSpin roller path: clean the scraper, edge clip, rubber strip and actuator, then reassemble everything flat and securely. For missed dry debris, clear the bin, filter, brushes, bearings, cleaning head and airflow path. Reseat a full clean-water tank for Error 450, use only StayClean Mopping Concentrate in the designated concentrate reservoir, and treat Error 756 as a pad-installation issue. Replace the wet system only when cleaning fails or wear is visible, and confirm that every part explicitly fits the Max 775.
