A Wi-Fi switch that is greyed out or will not stay on is different from Wi-Fi that is on but cannot join a network, and both differ from being connected without internet. Start by identifying which symptom you have, then restart the phone and check Airplane Mode. The symptom alone does not prove the phone has a hardware fault.
First, identify what “Wi-Fi disabled” means
Look at the Wi-Fi control in Settings and the phone’s connection indicator. The distinction determines what to troubleshoot:
- The Wi-Fi control is greyed out or will not turn on: focus first on the phone’s settings and software. A disabled control by itself does not establish why it is unavailable.
- Wi-Fi is on, but the phone cannot find or join a network: check range, the saved network, and whether other devices can connect.
- The phone says it is connected, but apps or web pages do not work: check the router, network, and internet service. A missing Wi-Fi indicator can also mean the phone is out of range, according to Google’s Android connection guidance.
Try the simple phone-side checks
On iPhone
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi and check whether Wi-Fi is on. Make sure Airplane Mode is off.
- If the Wi-Fi setting is dimmed or greyed out, restart the iPhone. Apple specifically recommends restarting for this symptom in its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.
- If you use VPN or security software, Apple recommends removing it temporarily and restarting to test whether it is interfering. If Wi-Fi works without it and you still need the software, contact its provider.
- Apple’s guide also advises checking Connectivity Assist and turning it off while continuing the troubleshooting checks.
On Android
- Open the Wi-Fi controls. Depending on the phone, the path may be Settings > Network & internet > Internet or Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi. Menu names vary by manufacturer and Android version.
- Turn Wi-Fi on if the control is available, check that Airplane Mode is off, then restart the phone. On Pixel phones, Google also recommends toggling Wi-Fi off and on.
- Google’s general Android guidance suggests turning Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds and then turning it off. If you are on a call, do not use Pixel’s reset-Internet step: Google warns that it ends phone or video calls.
- On a Pixel, check that date and time are set automatically; Google lists an incorrect date or time as a possible contributor to Wi-Fi connection problems.
For the exact steps supported on your model, use the phone maker’s instructions if the labels differ.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Other devices connect to your home Wi-Fi, but this phone fails there and on other Wi-Fi networks. | The issue is more likely on the phone. Continue with phone-side checks and contact its maker if it persists. |
| This phone connects to another Wi-Fi network, but not your home network. | Investigate the home network, router settings, range, or the saved network on the phone. |
| Several devices fail on the same Wi-Fi network. | Check the router, network host, or internet service provider (ISP). |
| The phone connects to Wi-Fi, but has no internet access. | Focus on the network or internet connection rather than a disabled Wi-Fi control. Google Pixel guidance says that when a phone connects to Wi-Fi but has no internet, the problem is most likely with the internet connection. |
Apple and Google both recommend testing another device on the same network and trying the affected phone on another network to help separate phone and network problems. See Apple’s guide and Google Pixel’s guide.
If Wi-Fi is on but one network will not work
If the phone works on other networks but fails on one saved network, forgetting that network and joining it again may help. You will need the network name and its security details, including the password if required. On Android, the steps vary; Google’s Wi-Fi connection instructions explain how to connect to a network.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
For a home network, check whether the phone is in range and whether the router offers another frequency band. Apple recommends checking router firmware and support, trying another frequency if available, and restarting the router and modem. Follow the router maker’s instructions: Google’s Android guidance says to unplug a router for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and allow another 30 seconds for lights to return; Pixel guidance instead says to unplug router and modem power for 15 seconds, reconnect cables securely, and wait a few minutes for normal lights. If equipment lights remain abnormal, contact the ISP or network administrator.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck for software or app interference
On Pixel phones, Safe Mode can help determine whether a downloaded app is involved. If Wi-Fi works in Safe Mode, a recently installed app may be the cause; if the problem remains, the network or internet connection may still be involved. Safe Mode steps differ across Android manufacturers, so follow your phone maker’s instructions rather than assuming Pixel’s procedure applies to every device.

If the problem began after installing VPN or security software on an iPhone, use Apple’s removal-and-restart test described above. If removing the software resolves the issue but you need to use it, ask its provider for help rather than leaving required protection uninstalled.
Reset network settings only after easier checks fail
A network reset can remove settings you rely on, so treat it as a later troubleshooting step. On iPhone, Apple says Reset Network Settings removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords and resets mobile, VPN, and APN settings. If the phone is managed by work or school, check with IT before resetting it.

When to contact support
- If an iPhone cannot connect to any Wi-Fi network after the checks above, contact Apple Support.
- If an Android phone continues to fail across Wi-Fi networks, contact its manufacturer for model-specific help.
- If multiple devices cannot get online on one network, contact the ISP or the network administrator.
Persistent phone-only trouble is a reason to seek device-specific support, not evidence by itself that a router or replacement component is needed.
