If a program exits while its final error is still being written—or before buffered output is flushed—the message may never reach its immediate output destination. In Node.js, prefer setting process.exitCode and letting the event loop finish. In Go, return from main after cleanup; if you use a bufio.Writer, call Flush() and check its error before exiting.
Why the final error can disappear
Printing an error and terminating are separate actions. A runtime or writer may still have output work pending when a program is told to stop. A forced exit can bypass that work or skip cleanup that would have completed it.
Flushing has a limited boundary: it can move data from a particular buffer to its underlying writer, but it does not by itself prove that a remote collector received the record or that storage made it durable. The remedy depends on the runtime and the writer your program actually uses.
Node.js: set the exit code and let the event loop drain
Calling process.exit() forces Node.js to terminate even if asynchronous writes to standard output or standard error remain pending. Node.js specifically warns that this can truncate output. For a CLI error path, set process.exitCode, stop scheduling new work, and let the program exit naturally once outstanding work completes. See the Node.js process documentation.

console.error('Request failed');
process.exitCode = 1;
// Finish required cleanup; allow the event loop to drain.
Do not move asynchronous logging or cleanup into an exit event listener. Node.js documents that listeners for this event can perform only synchronous operations; asynchronous work scheduled there will not hold the process open. The beforeExit event can schedule more work when the event loop empties, but it is not emitted for an explicit process.exit() or an uncaught exception. Neither event is a substitute for completing required work before termination.
Standard output is not always asynchronous
Node.js stdout and stderr write behavior depends on the operating system and whether the destination is a file, terminal, pipe, or socket. The documented combinations include both synchronous and asynchronous writes; synchronous writes can block the event loop, especially when the destination is slow or backpressured. So it is inaccurate to assume that Node output is always buffered or always asynchronous. The platform and destination details are in the Node.js process documentation.

If you must terminate immediately
If an error-handling design truly requires forced termination, first await the documented flush or close operation for the application logger you use, then terminate. Node.js’s process documentation does not define the behavior of third-party logger flush operations; consult that logger’s own documentation rather than assuming a generic process-level flush guarantees delivery.

Go: return through cleanup, then exit
os.Exit terminates immediately and does not run deferred functions. A deferred cleanup in main will therefore not run if execution reaches os.Exit first. The same issue applies to the standard logger’s log.Fatal, log.Fatalf, and log.Fatalln: they write a message and then call os.Exit(1). See the Go os package and Go log package.

- 【Ultra-thin and quiet】 - The motherboard adopts JMicron 578 noise-free solution, giving you a quiet working environment. Lightweight and portable size designed to fit in your pocket for easy portability.
- 【Ultra-Fast Data Transfers】 - Pairing this external hard drive with JMicron 578 solution USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces enables blazing-fast data transfer. It boasts theoretical read speeds of up to 125MB/s and write speeds of up to 103MB/s.
- 【Plug and Play】 - With no software to install, just plug it in and the drive is ready to use.The hard disk chip is wrapped with an aluminum anti-interference layer to increase heat dissipation and protect data.
- 【What You Get】 - 1 x Portable Hard Drive, 1 x USB 3.0 Cable, 1 x User Manual, Gift-type shell packaging ,Three-year manufacturer's warranty and free technical support services.
Prefer returning an error from work functions so main can perform required cleanup before choosing the exit status. If cleanup is deferred, let the function return normally; do not call os.Exit before the defer needs to run.
Flush an application-managed bufio.Writer
If your code wraps output in a bufio.Writer, call its Flush() method before termination and inspect the returned error. The method forwards buffered bytes to the writer beneath it; it cannot promise delivery beyond that immediate writer. The Go bufio documentation describes this contract.

- High capacity in a small enclosure – The small, lightweight design offers up to 6TB* capacity, making WD Elements portable hard drives the ideal companion for consumers on the go.
- Plug-and-play expandability
- Vast capacities up to 6TB[1] to store your photos, videos, music, important documents and more
- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
w := bufio.NewWriter(destination)
if _, err := w.Write([]byte("operation failedn")); err != nil {
// Handle the write error.
}
if err := w.Flush(); err != nil {
// Handle the flush error before choosing the exit status.
}
Do not assume Go’s standard log.Logger itself necessarily buffers: its documentation says each logging operation makes one call to its configured Writer. Buffering may come from that writer or a different logging implementation.

- Important Notes for PS/Xbox Gaming Devices: You can play last-gen games (PS4 / Xbox One) directly from an external hard drive. However, to play current-gen games (PS5 / Xbox Series X|S), you must copy them to the console's internal SSD first. The external drive is great for keeping your library on hand, but it can't run the new games.
Find the actual writer before changing the exit path
- Identify where the error goes. Determine whether it is written to Node.js stdout/stderr, a Go
bufio.Writer, a custom logger, or another destination. The required flush or close operation belongs to the component that owns the buffer. - Search for forced termination. In Node.js, look for
process.exit(). In Go, look foros.Exitandlog.Fatal,log.Fatalf, orlog.Fatalln. - Complete cleanup first. Use Node.js’s exit code property and natural event-loop completion where possible. In Go, return normally through required deferred cleanup instead of exiting early.
- Check errors from output operations. Handle write, flush, and close errors where the relevant API exposes them; a failed flush is itself a useful signal that the output path did not complete as expected.
- Check downstream acknowledgment separately. If the destination is a remote logging service, consult its logger or collector documentation for its own flush, close, and acknowledgment guarantees. A local runtime or writer contract alone does not establish remote ingestion or durable storage.
