Missing iTunes music videos do not all have one explanation. The purchase may be tied to another Apple Account, hidden, missing from your computer, out of sync, or no longer available in your country’s Apple catalog. Work through those possibilities in order; a video that has been removed from the catalog may not be available to download again.
First, identify what “missing” means
A video can be absent from a device even though its file is still on a computer, or it can be unavailable to redownload even though you bought it. Apple’s current support guidance distinguishes account and library problems from items that are no longer in the Apple Music catalog. Rights and country or region availability can also affect downloads.
Purchases, subscription catalog access, and cloud-library syncing are different. Apple says iTunes purchases remain in your library after an Apple Music subscription ends; subscription catalog additions and related playlists are removed when the membership ends. A purchase should not be treated as a subscription stream, but Apple’s terms do not promise that every item will remain available from Apple for redownload indefinitely.
Check the likely causes in order
1. Confirm the Apple Account used to buy the video
On each device, check that you are signed in with the Apple Account associated with the original purchase. Apple identifies a different account as a reason you may not be able to access purchased downloads or Sync Library content. If you use more than one account, check the purchase history for the account you believe made the purchase before changing settings.

2. Look for a hidden purchase
A hidden item may not appear normally in your library or purchase list. Apple includes hidden purchases among the reasons an item can appear gray. Check your account’s hidden purchases and unhide the video if it is listed, then check your purchases again.
3. Search the computer and storage where the file was downloaded
If you previously downloaded the video, search the Mac or PC that held the original library. Check alternate media-library locations and external drives, not only the current Music app view. If you find the media file, Apple’s current support flow allows you to drag a downloaded file into Music and update the cloud library.

4. Check Sync Library and cloud status
If you use Sync Library, confirm that it is enabled on the devices where you expect to see the video. On the computer that stores the original library, inspect the item’s cloud status and update the cloud library if needed. Apple warns that turning Sync Library off removes downloaded music from devices, so do not toggle it casually as a troubleshooting shortcut.

5. Check the catalog message and regional availability
If the item is marked “No Longer Available,” Apple says it may have been removed from the Apple Music catalog. Search for another version if you want to watch the song, but an alternate version is not necessarily the same purchase. Availability can also depend on the Apple Account’s country or region and on rights or clearance changes by a distributor or label. If your purchase record and access do not match, contact Apple Support.

Redownload a purchase if Apple still offers it
Use Apple’s current instructions for redownloading previous purchases on your device. Older iTunes guides show historical menus, but the interface varies by operating system and those labels may not match the current Music app. Apple’s older Mac guide also notes that some content is country-limited and prior purchases may not be available if they are no longer on the Store: Apple’s iTunes for Mac guide.
If a title cannot be downloaded, that does not by itself prove the purchase never existed. Apple’s Media Services terms say content that is no longer offered may not be available for redownload, including when provider rights change. The terms recommend regularly backing up content: Apple Media Services terms.

What changed in how Apple handles music videos?
Apple’s provider documentation still recognizes music videos as deliverable content. It lists three formats: Music Video Single, Mixed Media Album, and Music Video Album. That describes the types of content providers can deliver; it does not guarantee that every older title is currently offered in every country or region. Those are distinct arrangements, and each has different availability conditions. The available sources do not establish a quantified industry-wide shift in music-video consumption, or support the claim that Apple discontinued all music-video purchases or that all former iTunes videos became streaming-only.

Keep copies of videos you can still access
Apple Support’s guidance is direct: “Apple Music isn’t a backup service.” If a video file is already downloaded and accessible, keep a separate copy on storage you control, such as an external drive, and include it in your regular backup routine. A backup can preserve a file you already have; it cannot recover a video that was never downloaded or make Apple offer a title whose rights or catalog availability have changed.
