The explanation currently comes from a leak about a rumored range of LG-branded Apple Home accessories—not from a confirmed feature that works with LG devices generally. According to MacRumors’ account of leaker pdfu’s findings, an iPhone near one of the reported accessories could display a Dynamic Island prompt such as “Open Controls.” The feature and products remain unconfirmed, and the report says the interface was still changing during beta development.
What the reported Dynamic Island reaction is
MacRumors reported on October 9, 2026, that code and firmware clues point to a proximity feature associated with a possible line of LG-branded Apple Home accessories. In the reported scenario, bringing an iPhone close to, or tapping it against, one of these accessories could prompt an entry point to controls in the Dynamic Island. The report describes “Open Controls” as an example of the prompt.
The important qualification is that this is leak reporting about a feature in development. It is not an Apple or LG product announcement, an official compatibility guide, or confirmation that a released iPhone will react this way. The report says behavior was still being revised across beta releases, so even the prompt and what happens after it appears may not represent a final design.
This is also a specific claim about rumored smart-home accessories. It does not mean that an iPhone reacts to LG phones, televisions, appliances, or every device carrying the LG name. The reported behavior is tied to a possible accessory range intended for Apple Home.

How the feature is said to work
According to MacRumors’ account of pdfu’s findings, the alleged recognition method involves both an NFC identifier and a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) advertisement. The report says an apple-deviceid is stored with Matter payload data on an NFC tag, while a BLE broadcast is also involved. These are details attributed to the leak, not a mechanism Apple or LG has publicly confirmed in the sources reviewed.
The account describes a possible interaction in which the nearby accessory is identified and the iPhone offers a relevant control or view. It does not establish a precise detection distance, how long recognition takes, whether the user must tap the accessory, or whether the prompt appears every time. Those behaviors should not be inferred from the general phrase “proximity feature.”
The report also distinguishes this interaction from an NFC-based setup path for an accessory before it has power. That is a separate reported setup detail, not proof that the accessory can be fully controlled without power or that every setup step is handled through NFC. The described behavior remains unverified.

What NFC and BLE do—and what the report does not prove
The reported design names NFC and BLE as parts of recognition. That does not establish that either technology alone triggers the prompt, nor does it reveal how the phone decides that a nearby signal belongs to a supported accessory. The report does not provide a confirmed range, accuracy measurement, or reliability figure, so there is no evidence-based distance at which a reader should expect the Dynamic Island to react.
Apple documents Nearby Interaction as a UWB framework for compatible devices and accessories. That is a separate documented technology. The leak’s specific account points to NFC plus BLE; the material reviewed does not establish UWB as the cause of this alleged LG-related behavior. The mere fact that a feature involves nearby devices is not enough to identify it as UWB.
Why the Dynamic Island can show a prompt
Apple Support documents the Dynamic Island as a place where supported iPhones can show alerts and Live Activities. Its examples include an AirDrop connection, navigation directions, and an active Voice Memo recording. That establishes the interface’s general role: it can surface timely status or activity information without requiring the user to open a full app first.

That general capability makes a proximity prompt plausible as an interface concept, but it does not confirm this particular integration. Apple’s documented examples are not evidence that LG accessories have been announced, that the reported prompt is shipping, or that a specific version of iOS supports it. The alleged accessory controls must be treated separately from the Dynamic Island features Apple has documented.

MacRumors’ report describes different destinations depending on the rumored accessory. A thermostat could offer controls, while a camera or doorbell could open a camera view. These are reported examples, not a confirmed feature list or a promise that every accessory category will use the same interface.
The distinction matters because “reacts near a device” can sound like the Dynamic Island itself is displaying the device’s full controls. In the reported description, it is better understood as a hint or entry point: a prompt may direct the user toward controls or a camera view. The precise screen, controls, and navigation flow remain uncertain because the report says the feature was still under development.

What iPads and iPhones without Dynamic Island might show
According to the same report, an iPad or an iPhone without a Dynamic Island was expected to show a notification instead. This is a reported fallback, not a confirmed cross-device behavior. It suggests that the underlying notification or control idea may not depend on the Dynamic Island display itself, but the available evidence does not establish how the experience would look or behave on those devices.
Apple’s support information confirms Dynamic Island alerts and Live Activities only for supported iPhones. It does not confirm that the alleged accessory prompt will appear on those models, nor does it establish a definitive compatibility list for iPhones, iPads, or operating-system versions.
How this relates to Apple Home and Matter
Apple says its HomeKit and Matter frameworks support configuring and controlling supported home accessories. That is useful context for why a smart-home accessory might offer a setup or control experience through Apple Home. It is not confirmation of the rumored LG product line, the use of this particular proximity prompt, or the compatibility of any unannounced device.

Matter appears in the leak’s reported NFC payload details, but the presence of the word “Matter” should not be treated as a complete compatibility specification. The reviewed sources do not establish which accessory models would support Matter, which Apple Home features they would expose, or whether the rumored products would be available in any particular region.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is confirmed and what remains uncertain
| Point | What the available information says |
|---|---|
| Dynamic Island’s general role | Apple Support says supported iPhones can show alerts and Live Activities, with examples including AirDrop, navigation, and Voice Memos. |
| LG accessory proximity prompt | MacRumors reported clues attributed to leaker pdfu; Apple and LG have not confirmed the feature in the sources reviewed. |
| Reported recognition components | The leak describes an NFC identifier and BLE advertisement, including an apple-deviceid associated with Matter payload data. |
| Possible destinations | The report mentions thermostat controls and camera or doorbell views as examples; the final interface is unknown. |
| Other device displays | The report says iPads and iPhones without Dynamic Island might receive a notification instead; this is not official compatibility information. |
| Launch and availability | No official launch date, retail availability, final compatibility list, or confirmed product announcement was established in the sources reviewed. |
The distinction between these rows is central: Apple’s explanation of Dynamic Island and Home capabilities is official context, while the LG-specific product and behavior claims come from a leak. The former can explain how such an experience could fit into Apple’s ecosystem; it cannot be used to upgrade the latter into a confirmed feature.
What to make of a reaction—or no reaction
If a phone appears to show a proximity prompt near an LG product, that alone would not prove that the rumored feature has shipped. Other notifications or activities could appear in the Dynamic Island, and the general interface supports multiple types of alerts. The available report does not provide a way to identify a specific trigger from appearance alone.
Likewise, the absence of a prompt would not show that a phone is incompatible or that the reported technology is broken. The report gives no verified compatibility list, operating-system requirement, setup sequence, or troubleshooting procedure. It also does not establish whether the feature would require a particular accessory state, user setting, or software release.
For now, the practical answer is to treat a claimed LG-specific reaction as an unconfirmed report rather than a behavior to expect from current LG devices. A generic NFC tag or a user-created shortcut should not be assumed to reproduce the alleged native Dynamic Island interaction; the leak does not show that they are equivalent.
What has not been established
- No official Apple or LG confirmation of the reported accessory range or proximity feature.
- No final product names, launch date, retail availability, regional rollout, or price.
- No published compatibility list for iPhone models, iPads, or iOS versions.
- No confirmed detection distance, performance figure, or reliability measurement.
- No verified final prompt, control layout, or complete setup instructions.
Those gaps matter because the report describes changing beta behavior and possible future accessories. Until an official announcement or support document supplies the missing details, the most accurate explanation is limited: MacRumors reported a developing NFC-and-BLE proximity-control idea for rumored LG-branded Apple Home accessories, while Apple’s published material confirms only the broader Dynamic Island and smart-home context.
