A call that ends after roughly 25 minutes may point to a network or session timeout, but the timing alone does not identify the cause. The router setting in the title’s account was not specified, so there is no sound basis for saying which setting fixed that particular incident. For your own call drops, first confirm Wi-Fi calling works on your phone and with your carrier, then check router firmware and model-specific guidance before changing settings.
First identify what is actually dropping
Note whether the call ends completely, audio stops while the call remains connected, the phone switches to cellular, or Wi-Fi calling fails to start. These symptoms can arise at different points in the connection, so a precise description is more useful than the drop interval alone.
A recurring interval can make a timeout worth investigating, but the reviewed support guidance does not establish that a 25-minute cutoff identifies a particular timer or router setting. The available guidance addresses different telephony systems and symptoms; it does not establish how often router settings cause Wi-Fi calling failures.

Check the phone and service before changing the router
Confirm with your carrier and device documentation that your phone, plan, and location support Wi-Fi calling, and make sure the feature is enabled. TP-Link’s Wi-Fi calling troubleshooting guidance puts these checks before router configuration. If Wi-Fi calling is unavailable or not enabled, router changes will not resolve that underlying issue.

Work through router checks one at a time
- Update firmware. Check the router maker’s instructions for your exact model and install available firmware updates. Menu names and options differ between models; TP-Link includes firmware in its Wi-Fi calling troubleshooting steps.
- Check SIP ALG guidance. If your router has a SIP ALG setting, consult the router maker and carrier before changing it. TP-Link and D-Link recommend disabling SIP ALG in the contexts covered by their support pages. Vonage explains that SIP ALG can alter SIP headers and session description data, and also advises disabling it in its own support context. These recommendations do not establish that every carrier’s Wi-Fi calling uses SIP in the same way or that changing this option will fix every drop.
- Ask about NAT and UDP timeouts. Some SIP services have specific timeout guidance. BT Business says to check that the NAT refresh timer is greater than 120 seconds for its reported SIP calls-cutting-off-after-15-minutes issue. Vonage advises a UDP timeout of at least 55 seconds in its call-quality guidance. Those figures come from different service contexts; neither is a universal Wi-Fi calling setting or a confirmed explanation for a 25-minute drop.
- Verify IPsec requirements before adding port forwards. TP-Link’s guidance mentions reserving the phone’s IP address and configuring UDP ports 500 and 4500 for IKE2 and IPsec NAT traversal. This is a vendor-specific recommendation. Ask your carrier and router support whether it applies to your setup before reserving an address or changing firewall rules.
After each change, test a call long enough to see whether the original symptom recurs. Changing one setting at a time makes it easier to tell whether a change mattered and to undo it if necessary. Keep a note of the original value before editing a setting.
Why the 25-minute interval is not a diagnosis
Call cutoffs can involve the phone or carrier’s Wi-Fi calling support, router firmware or configuration, SIP handling, or NAT/UDP timeout behavior. The cited BT case concerns SIP calls dropping after 15 minutes, while Vonage’s timeout recommendation addresses its own call-quality context. Neither directly explains a mobile Wi-Fi call ending at 25 minutes. Without the router, phone, carrier, and connection details—or the setting changed in the original account—pinning the incident on one cause would be speculation.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
What to give carrier or router support
If the problem continues, provide the details TP-Link asks users to gather, along with the symptom that distinguishes your case:

- Router model and firmware version.
- Whether the Wi-Fi calling indicator appears before and during the call.
- Whether the call ends, audio cuts out, the phone switches to cellular, or Wi-Fi calling never starts.
- How long the call lasts before the problem occurs, and which router changes you have already tested.
Ask support whether any suggested change applies to your specific carrier, handset, and router. That matters particularly before altering SIP ALG, NAT/UDP timeouts, or firewall port rules.
