Short answer: Konami announced that P.T. (Playable Teaser) would stop being distributed through the PlayStation Store on April 29, 2015, but its notice did not give a reason. The removal took place while Silent Hills, the game P.T. promoted, was being cancelled, so that cancellation is the surrounding context—not a publicly confirmed explanation from Konami. A prior claimant could briefly redownload P.T. after the Store listing disappeared, but reports by May 6, 2015, said the file had been removed from PlayStation servers even for people who had added it to their libraries. Normal official redownload is therefore not available on the evidence documented here.
What Konami actually announced
On April 26, 2015, GameSpot reproduced a notice from Konami’s official P.T. website. The notice said: “The distribution period of P.T. (Playable Teaser) on PlayStation Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.” That sentence established an end date for distribution, but it did not explain why Konami was ending it.
That distinction matters. P.T. was not announced as a paid game being delisted after a routine commercial cycle. It was a free, digital PlayStation 4 teaser designed to reveal Silent Hills, a proposed horror title associated with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. Contemporary coverage connected the delisting with the cancellation of Silent Hills, yet the available notice never said, in so many words, that the cancellation was the reason. The safest conclusion is that the projects were closely related in time and purpose, while Konami’s formal explanation for the Store action was not published in the cited notice.

The apparent contradiction between April 30 and May 6 is a change over time, not necessarily a disagreement about what a user saw. Library access survived briefly after the listing ended; the server-side download was then disabled. For a question asked today, the later status is the relevant historical endpoint.

Why people associate the takedown with Silent Hills
P.T. was a playable teaser rather than a standalone release. Completing its looped haunted-house sequence revealed that it was promoting Silent Hills, a project publicly linked to Kojima and del Toro. Around the same period, reports described Silent Hills as cancelled and Kojima’s relationship with Konami as deteriorating. Removing a teaser for a cancelled project would be understandable from a publisher’s operational perspective: the advertised project would no longer be proceeding, and the teaser could no longer serve its intended announcement role.
That is context, not a verified quotation from Konami explaining the delisting. The documented notice supplied an expiration date only. Do not treat “Silent Hills was cancelled” as a formally stated takedown rationale, and do not infer a specific licensing, technical, or contractual dispute unless a direct official statement establishes it. The evidence supports an association, not the internal decision-making behind it.
Can you still download P.T. through normal PlayStation features?
The historical reports support a “no” for the standard PlayStation download flow. To understand why, separate four different states that are often collapsed into the single phrase “I own P.T.”:

An old library record, if one appears, is not proof that the content can be fetched. Entitlement records and downloadable files are separate systems. Konami’s removal from the servers is why a prior claim alone cannot be presented as a guaranteed redownload route.

What happened if you had claimed it before April 29?
Contemporary coverage gives a narrow answer. On April 30, Game Informer said a prior claimant could select P.T. from the console library and download it, based on the outlet’s test. That result was temporary. By May 6, GameSpot said the download had disappeared from PlayStation’s servers even for users who had already added P.T. to their libraries, and Game Informer reported Konami confirmation of complete removal.
Therefore, “I claimed it” does not establish a current download entitlement that will work. It describes the condition that mattered during the brief interval between the Store expiration and the server removal. The later report is the stronger evidence for the settled redownload status.
If P.T. is already installed on a PS4
The available evidence does not test every console configuration, account, storage drive, or system-software version. It documents the inability to fetch the package from PlayStation servers, not a universal shutdown of copies that were already present on a hard drive.
If P.T. is installed on a console you control, avoid treating routine troubleshooting as a harmless experiment. Deleting the application, initializing the console, replacing the drive without a verified transfer, or restoring a backup that excludes the game can remove the only local copy. Because official servers are not documented as offering a replacement download, deletion may be irreversible through ordinary PlayStation tools.

- Do not delete the application merely to test whether it can be reinstalled.
- Do not initialize or rebuild storage until you understand exactly what data will be erased.
- Keep the console and its storage in working order if preserving the installed copy is important.
- Record the console model, system-software version, and whether the application launches before changing anything.
These precautions preserve a copy; they do not prove that every installed copy will run indefinitely. The cited reporting contains no present-day compatibility guarantee, server check result, or account-specific test.
What to check on a console without risking the copy
A check can tell you whether a local installation remains visible, but it cannot create a new download source. Use the least destructive sequence first:
- On the PS4 that may contain P.T., open the content area and look for the P.T. application icon.
- If the icon is present, highlight it and choose the normal launch command. Do not select delete, uninstall, or any storage-management option.
- If it launches, leave the installation untouched. A successful launch demonstrates only that this local copy works in this console state.
- If the icon is absent, open the account’s Library and search the purchased or owned-content sections for P.T. A library record, if shown, is not evidence that PlayStation’s servers still host the package.
- If the console offers a download button, treat the result as account- and server-dependent. The historical evidence says ordinary server delivery was disabled by May 6, 2015; it does not verify a special exception on a particular account today.
- Before any repair, drive replacement, initialization, or account change, make a complete backup of data that the console actually permits you to copy. A backup is not a confirmed way to restore P.T.; it is simply a way to avoid unnecessary data loss.
Do not sign out, switch accounts, or remove the application as a troubleshooting shortcut. Those actions can change what is visible without restoring the missing server package.
Are unofficial recovery methods confirmed?
No reliable unofficial method is established by the evidence for this article. Online discussions have described account transfers, old hard drives, backups, and modified-console techniques, but the documented reporting here does not verify their current operation, legality, safety, or ability to produce a playable copy. A method that worked for one person in 2015 may depend on a particular console, an old system state, a retained storage device, or an account condition that no longer exists.

Be especially cautious with downloads offered as P.T. installers. A file from an unknown site can be tampered with, can contain malware, or can require bypassing platform security. It can also expose your PlayStation account to credential theft. Do not provide account passwords, payment details, or console access to a site promising a guaranteed restoration. The fact that P.T. is rare does not make an unverified package authentic.
Using modified hardware or software may also violate platform terms and can create separate legal issues depending on your jurisdiction. Nothing in the cited reports confirms that an unofficial technique is authorized by Konami or the platform holder.

“It was removed on April 29, so nobody could download it afterward.”
The date describes the end of the Store distribution period. Game Informer’s April 30 report shows that at least one prior claimant could still reach a library download immediately afterward. The server removal came later.

That assumption is true for many digital purchases, but the May 6 reports specifically said P.T. could no longer be downloaded even by previous claimants. P.T.’s unusual status as a free teaser for a cancelled project made the normal entitlement expectation unreliable.

“Konami said it was removed because of the cancellation.”
The cancellation explains why observers connected the events. The quoted Konami notice, as reproduced by GameSpot on April 26, supplied an expiration date but no reason. Calling the cancellation the official reason overstates what the notice says.
“A working installed copy proves the servers still provide it.”
Local execution and server delivery are different conditions. An installed application can remain on a drive after a server-side package has been withdrawn.
What is known, and what remains unknown

Those boundaries are important because the central historical answer is stronger than the unresolved edge cases. You can state confidently that normal official redownload was disabled in 2015; you cannot use the same evidence to promise what every surviving installation will do now.

Bottom line for owners and collectors
If you never claimed P.T. before its distribution ended, there is no documented official route to download it now. If you did claim it, the short post-delisting window for library downloads closed when the package was removed from PlayStation servers. An already-installed copy is a separate situation: it may remain usable on its original console, but the cited reporting does not guarantee that outcome and does not provide a verified replacement method. Preserve any local installation carefully, and treat claims of guaranteed recovery as unverified unless they come with current, authoritative evidence.
