A used PS5 Pro can be listed above the price of a new one because resale and retail are separate markets: sellers set prices based on their stock, replacement costs and expectations of demand, while Sony’s suggested price is only a benchmark. In the United States, Sony’s suggested price was reported at $899.99 after a March 2026 increase, while October 2026 reports put GameStop’s pre-owned price at about $1,399.99. Those are dated examples—not a typical resale value or a guarantee that every used console sells for more.
What the reported prices do—and don’t—show
Associated Press reported that Sony raised the PS5 Pro’s suggested price by $150 in March 2026, from $749.99 to $899.99. That figure is a US suggested-price benchmark, not a promise that every retailer currently has a new console at that price. Associated Press reported the increase.
In October 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported GameStop pre-owned PS5 Pro units listed for $1,399.99 and said new units were out of stock at several retailers at the time of its report. Game Developer separately reported GameStop pre-owned prices of $1,399.99 for the digital model and $1,499.99 with a disc add-on. Game Developer attributed those figures to a purported internal employee email shared online, rather than a public price-policy statement. Tom’s Hardware’s October report and Game Developer’s report describe those snapshots.

These reports establish that some pre-owned offers were listed above the reported suggested price at that time. They do not establish how many units sold at those prices, a nationwide average, or that scarcity alone caused the premium. Stock shortages can plausibly encourage sellers to test higher prices when buyers want immediate access, but the cited reports are snapshots, not a study proving why each seller chose a price. Availability and prices can change quickly.
Why a used listing can be higher than the new suggested price
Retail and resale are different price references
Sony’s suggested price is a manufacturer benchmark. A retailer’s pre-owned sticker price is its own offer, while a marketplace seller’s price is an asking price that may or may not lead to a sale. A high listing does not become the console’s normal value simply because it appears online.

Stock and replacement costs can affect a seller’s price
A retailer may consider what it would cost to replace inventory, what stock it has on hand, and what it believes buyers will pay. When new consoles are hard to find, a buyer may be willing to pay extra for one available immediately. That is a plausible market mechanism, not proof that any individual used unit is worth more or that the shortage will persist.

A console listed with a disc add-on, extra controller, or other accessories is not directly comparable to a bare console. Condition, warranty or return terms, seller reputation, shipping, and tax also change the practical value of an offer. Compare the full offer, not just the headline price.

How to estimate a used PS5 Pro’s resale value
- Match the configuration. Confirm the exact model and region, and whether the listing includes a disc drive or add-on, controller, cables, or other items.
- Match the condition and protections. Compare similar condition and check the seller, return window, and any warranty. A retailer-refurbished unit and a private-party console may not offer the same protections.
- Look for completed sales. Active listings show what sellers hope to receive; completed sales provide evidence that a buyer paid a particular amount. Use more than one sale where possible, and check that the sale is genuinely comparable.
- Separate bundles from console-only sales. A bundle’s total price includes its extra items. Do not use it as a like-for-like console-only comparable without accounting for those items.
- Compare the total cost. Include shipping and tax for a purchase, then weigh that total against current new-stock availability and the seller’s return or warranty terms.
PriceCharting displays individual dated eBay records, not a complete audited market average. Its records can help illustrate transactions, but they do not prove a uniform price or condition. View the PS5 Pro records on PriceCharting.
One eBay bundle listing displayed a US $1,100 price and was marked sold July 28 on the listing page. Because it was a bundle, it does not establish the value of a console alone; one transaction also cannot establish a typical resale price. See the eBay listing.

How to judge a new-versus-used offer
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Total out-the-door price | Shipping and tax can change which offer costs less. |
| Condition and included items | A bundle or disc add-on is not comparable to a bare console at the same sticker price. |
| Seller, return terms, and warranty | Protection and recourse differ between sellers and offers. |
| Asking price or completed sale | An active offer is not evidence that a buyer accepted that price. |
| Current new-stock availability | A reported shortage is only a dated snapshot; check what is available now. |
The figures discussed here are US-dollar examples reported in 2026. Prices, taxes, official benchmarks, and availability differ by country and can change over time, so they should not be applied directly to another market or treated as current live inventory.
